Happy New Year Guys, lets hope 2025 is a lot better for AAA games.
Happy new year Mac 👍
Its going to be worse but we don't care; too many AA and indies coming out, let alone our backlogs and older games, AAA can go bankrupt for all we care.
Happy New Year❤❤
_laughs in J Jonah Jameson_
Good one, Mack.
I doubt it, it usually more of the worse to come. Its getting more rarer to see masterpiece games at least.
thank you for what you do
This felt so much more official than the Game Awards for 2024. Thank you mack for recognizing great games that got snubbed.
Thanks my favourite ranting Brit. Here is 20 euro's for some Ubisoft DLCs 🥰
Lol he bout to return that 😂
For A Ubisoft DLC*
Is a twenty enough?
That's almost enough for a AAAA pink unicorn-themed raft on Skull & Bones.
Man is a menace
It really is a damn shame that the masterminds who created Red Dead Redemption both 1 and 2 will never get the GOAT glory they deserver due to Rockstars's pathetic and disgusting greed.
It's important to acknowledge the big spenders in GTA Online. During the pandemic, they spent millions on in-game purchases, which created a significant financial boost for the game. Once a company experiences that level of success, it's difficult to scale back on the strategies that got them there.
@@718Hokage Not just millions, but *billions*. GTA Online earned an insanely absurd amount of money from the shark card microtransactions alone. The whales throwing their money at it were one of the reasons why we'll (very likely) never have a great Rockstar Games title again.
@@superplayerex2431True, GTA 5 made over 5 billion dollar
True, a lot of them are gone now unfortunately. Leslie Benzies pretty much saved RDR1 from being cancelled back in the day and then got thrown out and Dan Houser left after RDR2. It's a real shame, I can't see Rockstar ever reaching their previous heights again, the GTA money made them lazy.
WTAF are you on about? RDR2 won over 150 GOTY awards and is hugely praised to this day. There was even an entire South Park B-plot about how good the game is.
And Game Review Channel of the year goes to… drum rolls… Worth a Buy! Well done Mac 🎉
Beg
Except for his HD2 take, I mostly agree xD
Lol you give it to the reviewer who openly had a debate with me in the comments about how SSDs are a scam and was claiming there is no difference between ssd and hard drive back when reviewing Ratcher Rift Apart on PC
When he released Manor Lords, the dev said its' not ready, don't buy it if you want a completed game. Then what happens, idiots who can't read, buy it and complain it's not ready. Lmao.
Its why I havent played it yet. It looks awesome, I'll be patient.
@@Thesavagesouls read this stupid: Since I dropped the Announcement Trailer, the community of this game has truly flourished. I recieved a ton of feedback, ideas and suggestions, and decided that some of them are important enough to address immediately (like the new recruitment system, larger region sizes, farm fertility etc). Because of this the game got immediately better, but we might see a delay, I can’t confirm yet how long - it’s “To Be Announced”. I decided to shut up and focus on work instead of making up release dates. I’ll be updating the progress as frequently and transparently as I can.
@@Science1677he's not stupid for asking questions, stupidy is asking no questions and making statements like you know what you're talking about. You still didn't answer either question, you instead insulted him like a child.
@@Thesavagesouls Worse, his Discord that requires verification.
It is complicated it's just there's no campaign
Mac 2011- 2024: “really a terrible year for AAA”
Clearly I never said that, it's only been recently that AAA has been the last decade, so please keep it real, I do.
Nailed it Joel. It’s his whole grumpy man schtick.
I mean that's pretty accurate lol look at AAA releases from 2000-2009 and compare. Anyone with a brain will be like "well shit, 100 amazing masterpieces vs. 5 derivative broken betas...hmmm"
Skyrim came out in 2011.
actually the downfall of gaming has begun around 2017 , it really started going to shit from there @@g2jxGhF5G8z1gL7S
Mack picking a Triple A Third Person Shooter as his GOTY should tell you about how good Space Marine 2 is.
And how bad all other AAA offerings this year were.
If you like quick time events and basically zero replayability yeah.
Or how bad the industry is?
@@xenoborg007 speak for yourself. Im about 250 hours in now and havent even touched PvP yet.....everyone is entitled to their opinion but saying it has zero replayability is just complete bollocks.
I thought it was boring and repetitive. Uninstalled after a few hours and never going back.
V Rising is fair. Satisfactory is my favorite...but its almost a second job. V Rising is more of a "game". I am sooo thankful for your channel Mac. Your reviews are always honest and accurate. I instantly understand a game when you review. Deep respect man.
Drova: Forsaken Sin was my goty
Happy new year everyone! This week was the week I finally built a pc and can leave console behind! I built a beast so looking forward to trying some games on this list
Gratz :) Check out some great indie titles.
What are the specs?
Finally some love for Satisfactory. The fact that nobody is mentioning this game in goty lists is criminal.
Agreed, it just shows the corruption tbh.
It's been around a long time... launch didn't really hit
OutsideXbox had it in their games of the year as well.
This would be the official awards especially if there were no sponsors and suck up to companies
I would recommend a new category for future; "The labour of love" for games that it's developers have kept introducing updates for at least 5 years, keeping the gameplay fresh and giving a great value for your money. Titles that come to mind are The Long Dark -10yrs updates, State of Decay - 30+ updates, Kenshi, Space Engineers, No Man's Sky... Happy New Year Mac, Cheers!
All the best to you and yours in 2025 Mack. Far too few voices like yours holding the AAA industry to account, keep up the good work.
Happy New Year, Mack!! Thanks for another great year.
Thanks, Mack! You're the best reviewer out there. Nobody comes close to your mixture of integrity and humor! Hope you and your family have a great 2025!
I've spent a fair amount of time in Helldivers 2 and I have to say, while you CAN pay for the warbonds....you absolutely do not have to and all of them are entirely feasible to earn in-game without paying anything additional out of pocket. Good list altogether though
As someone who have played HD2 since launch, I've not had to spend an extra dime on the game. Got everything unlocked for free xD
And it's been simply fun doing so, there's no need for new players to rush super credit farming to get certain warbonds, as all the stuff you get for free is plenty good. Working your way through the starting warbond eventually will net you enough SC for the next warbond anyway, due to all the SC you can find in the field by just having a look around the map.
@@LethalOwl Agreed. I never felt pressured to spend more cash.
To add to this it is also fairly easy to farm for the premium currency if you are missing a bit. One entire Warbond (battlepass?) with multiple guns, armors etc. costs 1000 of this currency. Farming it alone I can get around 100-200 of it in an hour and with a dedicated 4 man stack it can go to over 1k currency per hour if you have people who know what to do.
Definitely one of the "best" live service models out there with great gameplay to boot, especially if you have people to play with. Best is in quotation marks because I generally don't like any live service games.
Yeah his idea that it's somehow pay to win is just flat out a lie and false. Lmao
All the best for 2025, Mack!
Good to see so many lesser known games getting recognition
Hope you have a good New Year's Eve. And all the best for the 2025.
To be fair about Helldivers 2, I’ve everything unlocked and never spend a dime 🤷🏻♂️
It's been a great pleasure you've been with us in 2024! I wish you great upcoming year! Let's hope gaming industry AAA will start to heal in 2025 (it probably won't)
Your reviews feel so unbiased and down to earth. You already "sold" me Empires of the Undergrowth and Vintage Story. Thank you, and please keep up the good work!
Glad to see a worthy title win your GOTY. We need more games like this!
Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2, Helldivers 2 and Stalker 2 are the only games I’ve bought and played this year. Used to be big into gaming, now I’ve just been losing interest. Story wise- Hellblade, loved it for many reasons. Dumb fun, nail biting holy sh*t game- Helldivers 2. Stalker 2. The Eeriness, what is that sound/thing coming at me. I still get jumped scared time to time. The world is amazing to explore. Play on Veteran, disable the hud and only use the PDA for navigation is so much fun. Brings me back to the first time I played Fallout 3. Aside from the bags it’s an amazing game. Too many games out there to play so I pick and choose which ones to play each year. I work too much with little time for playing games. So yeah. Game of the year is the game you enjoy the most.
I think it's very healthy to pick and choose, and try to limit how many games you play, and helps with the backlog of games, burn out, and not finishing games, and also spending time outside of games.
@@it2spooky4me79 . I have well over 300 games from 360-PS3-Xbone days, a lot I have yet to play. Not counting the 71 games I have on PC. I'll never get burnt out. I played maybe a total 400 hours this past year playing games. I don't buy many games because 85% of games that have come out in the last 10 years are just shit. When you have 65 hour work weeks which I have had these past few years, gaming on the weekends is only possible.
Awesome, unorthodox choices. Hope you'll be checking out Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era this year...so long as Ubisoft doesn't ruin it. Looks like a return to just old fun, along the lines of these games.
The ones I would pick for contenders is these ones here:
*Path of Exile 2, *Helldivers 2,
* Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown,
* Hades 2,
* Dragon Age: The Veilguard,
* Destiny 2: The Final Shape,
* Yakuza: Like a Dragon 2,
* Tactical Breach Wizards,
* Black Myth,
* Elden Ring: Shadow of the Eldtree.
Thanks and Happy New Year, Mac!
LET US MAKE 2025 A GLORIOUS YEAR, HAPPY NEW YEAR MACK AND FELLOW FANS.
I wonder why Palworld isn't mentioned. Especially because Mack did such a fair and unbiased review about it already. Probably it's just not relevant with only 160k people playing right now.
Love how captions picks up on your accent, “Mana Lords”.
Ah gunna ganna ginna ganna 😂😂😂 keep it up, all the best🎉🎉
Your channel is excellent. Hilariously, every single game you mentioned that I didn't already own, I typed into steam and it was already on my wishlist. You have brilliant taste. Keep up the good work.
So what you actually want to say is that you think you have a brilliant taste yourself 😂
Return to castle wolfenstien was amazing back in the day!!
So so good, great story, oozing with atmosphere, solid shooting, only thing that was ridiculous was the save checkpoints but it was a classic
@@gladiatorscoops4907 Great Story??? 🙄
Halt!
This video is like an extra Christmas present. Keep doing what you're doing, Mack.
No Fallout London...what a shame 🎉
Cheers Mack, let's have some more laughs in 2025
Great to see pacific drive in there - what a game!
When Total Bisket passed I wondered if I we would ever get a reviewer to fill the void he left the gaming world. Ever since discovering you for your review of Battlefield V you continue to do that for me. No disrespect to Total Bisket; may he rest in piece. Thank you.
Space Marine 2 didn't do everything perfectly. They totally fucked up ultrawide support, in 32:9 game is zoomed as hell and basically unplayable. Modder solved that in 1 day but you risk a ban modding the game. It also has toxic crap of epig online component and another steaming turd easy anticheat.
So to sum up: the devs don't give a fuck and basically pulled a bait and switch for users of ultrawide mode.
I really do appreciate this channel! It's refreshing and different to the usual "gaming" ones
Happy new year to you and your family Mack❤🎉 you're awesome and the best person and reviewer here on yt, simple as that. Love you so much, thanks for all great content so far 💕 much love from Norway 🍾🥂🍺🍻
Abiotic Factor is one of the best co op games I've ever played. So far only half of the game is out, but we've already put 100 hours in to it! The maps are just incredible - almost overwhelming at times, but you will figure them out. Strongly recommended to play with a friend to help with the creative problem solving! Thanks Mack for another great year of reviews!
HYN Mack and the gang!
I'm glad the terms "Ubislop" and "Bethetic" are being coined. the more that catches on the better
Mack, Mack, Mack! Now that I've got your undivided attention (hopefully) I've been watching your videos for quite some time now, and I have a gut-feeling that you'll really enjoy a game on Steam called "Intrusion 2". Judging by your taste in games, and reviews, and what is good and what isn't in your opinion, which 90% of the time I absolutely agree on, you'll love this little game. It's dirt-cheap on Steam, and it is absolutely well worth the money in my opinion. I want to see if you'll agree too, and I'm interested to see your thoughts on it. Many thanks, and love your content to this day. Also, thanks so much for helping me quit smoking with your little tutorial on how to quit in your Train Valley review from 7 years ago! :)
No mention of Star Wars Outlaw? B...but....the tall grass strat?!
and the punching in the face tactic ? XDD
For RPG of the year I think Rogue Trader was prob the only one to look at... super complicated and does not have the production values of BG3 for sure.. but still if you like RPG then its right up there.
I heard it is really good , another gen what goes under radar
Drova - Forsaken Kin. It came out last month. It's kind of a 2D Gothic. Definetly worth it in my opinion.
Rogue trader came our last year.
@@bcroscros8919 ah balls did it really.. thought full release was this year.. my bad time just goes so quick these days hahaha
I think your instant dismissal of hd2 as its all optional is a bit unfair. Isn't sm2 like 55 quid for a 10 hour story.😂 black myth was 60 hrs for same price...feel it's just hating for no reason.
the time spent doesnt matter much if its quality. microtransactions and pay to win mechanics are terrible for gamers, especially in a game you have to pay for.
@planet defs some valid points
But also your laugh emoji is toxic AF
With Helldivers 2, you just have to actually farm the ‘points of interest’ on every map you land on to get the super credits.
Lots of newbs and randoms jair don’t look around or care about getting free stuff.
I’ve have every war bond and every clothing purchased, and I got it all for free. You just have to play the game and understand what the fudge you are doing.
Thank you. Happy New Year!
Good selection of games! Here are mine:
Best FPS: STALKER 2
Best TPS: Space Marine 2
Best TBS: Zephon
Looking forward to Mack saving me an absolute Fortune in 2025 :)
Righty there with you for the GOTY, Mack. A fine year for some games and couldn't have been happier seeing you enjoyed Space Marine 2 all the same. Cheers to you lad and all the best coming in the New Year ahead. *tips hat*
Hi Mac
Not one to arse kiss but last year you have partly inspired me to switch over to PC gaming and break the shackles of consoles.
I think you are a legend but my bank account and Wife thinks differently!
Happy new year.
Hmm... The Thing:Remaster did not make it to the port/remaster/remake category? Knowing Mack, it wouldn't have made it anyway (I guess Mack would say that it's too expensive for a remaster of an old game) - but, damn, if you were a fan of the original game, the remaster is definitely worth it, and it's now available on all platforms.
This is the best GOTY selection, happy new year Mack
This is the perfect video. I've never heard of Space Marine 2, but ballsy devs are ballsy devs. Empire of the Undergrowth...I pirated that. I am from the Balkan after all. That will be the next game I purchase after Elite Dangerous that I will probably never play. Undergrowth was epic even in the early stages.
P.S. just started developing my first Roblox game after 4 months of learning coding. Who knows. If I want jaw dropping critique and it ,,performs'' I'l get a mention here one day...On the side note of course. I know Mack's standards and I totally agree with him.
Happy New Year Mack!! and Happy and productive 2025, everyone!!!
Well if they want females in SM2 they could do a sisters of Battle DLC. that'll fix it and be Canon as well.
The point is the mix Gender the males , they don't want all male anything
Looks like I’ll be giving Space Marine a buy!
You're in for some fun.
On sale rn aswell
It is only okay mate, I dropped it after a couple of weeks sadly.
Happy new year to anyone reading this, all the best 🥳
0:17 Damn right Mack I am with you there!
Tbh I'm going Helldivers 2 for my GOTY, space marine 2 was okay but nowhere near as fun as HD2 imho, I know the pay 2 win / play to win is a touchy subject but tbh I have only paid for half the expansions, playing the game has paid for the rest and it does keep the devs.....developing.
Vrising as well, such a great game for the steam deck.
Anyways ATB to you and yours for the new year marra.
Amazing list! Shows Mac plays the shit out of a game to be worthy of giving it an award. Not only that, but the reasons are absolutely on point! Well done Winners :D and well done Mac :D
Happy new year Mac. Thanks for all the videos and the hard work you put in
The only GOTY selection with a token AAA among lots of indies instead of the other way around... but it still wins in the end
Finally a GOTY that makes sense! I loved Helldivers 2 though, and the "selling guns" is partially true - they did sell one gun, but they were mainly putting it for sale for a particular crossover and very on the side of the core gameplay. The stats of the gun were pretty much the same as the base weapon you get at the start...but I respect your opinion Mack, love your videos! I never buy a game without checking if there's a video of yours on it first, love them!
Thanks Mac for another year of no nonsense reviews. Always come to your channel first when something new comes out! Thanks 🎉
There's been PLENTY of great games this year
Thanks Mack, your reviews are appreciated and trusted even if I disagree on Helldivers 2 :) Keep up the sterling work and hope you have a great 2025.
Happy New Year. Enjoyed your choices.
There are zero "AAA" games on my GOTY list. It's a toss up between Enshrouded, Abiotic Factor and Path of Exile 2.
oh look a brown item, oh it's useless. guess which game is not on my list
Enshrouded wins for technical achievement and developer support, PoE2 wins for being better than Diablo IV in every way even in early access already and free to play. Simply cannot beat that value offer. Both are top of their class in their respective genres. Manor Lords has great promise, but still needs too much development to properly judge its merits yet. Maybe end of next year.
Honorable mention: Our Adventurer Guild. Just a nice little turn based tactical indie RPG title by a single dev. Just allround great fun. Really enjoyed that one much more than i thought i would.
Space Marine 2 gets my AAA pick simply by virtue of doing exactly what it is supposed to without bending the knee to THE MESSAGE and getting the WH40K feel and atmosphere just right. We need more traditionally minded devs with focus on the essentials and the balls to hold their ground like this. Do right by the source material and the actual players and fans without compromise. It's really not that hard.
@@garnhamr I like the scaled back itemization of POE2. What won me over was the changes to the control scheme and combat pacing.
@@kingcurmudgeon8685 True. Although some EA titles can already show so much promise and quality that you just KNOW they're gonna be brilliant upon release.
In the end, the fun you had playing is the only relevant metric. And if an EA indie game in its unfinished state already is more fun than most released AAA games, then it deserves to win the endorsement, simple as.
@@kingcurmudgeon8685 It is for me, especially in this age of absolute garbage full releases.
Happy New Year, Mack. Thank you for sharing your honest opinion always. Much appreciated.
Great GotY recap AS ALWAYS.
Happy new year Mac and everyone here as well !
The first outlet/person/channel I've seen that has given GOTY to the actual game of the year. Can usually count on Mack!
Forget AAA, independents will save gaming.
These days I play hardly anything but Indi games. Have been loving Solargene recently.
Happy New Year from a wet n windy Haswell.
im so glad this channel exists otherwise I would be bored of gaming
Thank you, Mack for *helping us make the RIGHT choice in buying only the BEST games!* See you again...next year! 😃
The only reason I age another year is so I can watch Mack's best and worst of the year awards.
Thanks Mack for all you do, I watch every, enjoy them all. All the best for 2025 to you and the missus 👍
13:12 and it’s on sale! Bought a copy for myself and my cousin for Christmas
Good summary Mack. Yes, 2024 has been bad year for triple-A. For RPGs, Dragons Dogma 2 could have been more of a success than the (reasonable) 228K peak players it got, if they didn't alienate people like myself, a massive fan of the original, by including that Denuvo sh1te. I simply don't buy single player games if they have either Denuvo or an 'always online' requirement. If they remove the Denuvo, I'll buy Dragons Dogma 2. I can tolerate MTs if they get everything else right.
This all made more sense to me than the official rankings
Great list and a very enjoyable watch. See you all next year.
I totally agree about the disappointment with Frostpunk 2.
My favorite sleeper hit was The Talos Principle II
Would love to see you do a review of Medieval Blacksmith. I've been having quite a lot of fun now that I'm past the learning curve. The developer is Turkish and they are very active in the Steam discussions. They respond to everything, especially suggestions, and it seems that they have every intention of keeping the game fresh and updated.
SpaceMarine 2 was a great surprise, it's a great entry point and with Cavill doing the show lore-accurate I may finally get into Warhammer afterall.
I'm just cautious about every major company though, wondering how they are going to pull the rug under me.
i finally got stuck into rdr2 this xmas so im having a great time gaming
I don't even think Space Marine 2 is that good, its nice visually but that story has no lasting power, has some weak points and lacks variety of gameplay (in terms of what you can do, not opponent variety)
I didn't think much of it initially, but warmed to it very quickly. It's good simple uncomplicated fun.
The Helldivers saga needs its own award. It had a loyal playerbase who treated it like it was the second coming then there was the issue with flags as capes and representation and the playerbase split while the devs banned people both sides but their mod team on social media were for the representation side and because of this a AAA company were looking to buy them out to ENFORCE the flag stuff with an iron fist then the game got worse, then better and now appears to have gotten worse and the Helldivers fans have went quiet.
Space marine 2 really was the best game in years. Such an incredible game- just an absolutely blew me away and lived up to every ounce of hype. One of my favorite games of all time.
I don't even bother watching other review channels. Mack's POV is all I need, in addition to my own opinions of course. Besides I don't really come here to learn about what this or that game is like so much. I mostly am just here for the hilarious ranting. Always good fun. Thanks Mack.
Holy shit thares a new return to Wolfenstein i had zero idea you just made my last dew hours of 2024
I played and enjoyed all of these games. 2024 was a year of amazing games the gap left by AAA has been filled by the smaller developers quite nicely.
Happy New Year! Playing Enshrouded now, its sooo good
Another Year Goes by with so much Joy watching this channel! You are my go to Game reviewer!🙂
he said no good rpg this year, clearly a clown opinion
@@deenman23 I didnt mention RPGs
I think DRG Survivors is out of early access now - it's one of the best 'survivors' style games I've played. Certainly deserves a look and a rating on the merits.
Would have been great to have this video released some time before the end of the Steam Winter sale.
All the games mentioned here (and thereby given high praise, regardless of which won Mack's final pick) were reviewed on this channel before the Steam Winter Sale even started, long before. And besides; just because the sale is over, you can still buy any of them. How about pay the full asking price for a great game? 🙄
@@sunnyjim1355So long ago that it was last year.
My vote would be Ghost of Tsushima, I thought it was lots of hype, but damn that game is so well done. Almost no pandering, just good gameplay and insane visuals and world building.
Factorio with new Space Age expansion! 10/10
