just google it, it won’t be actually, it will be in 60 years, well the next one that is as close as this one, but the next conjunction will be 20 years from now
What??? A Lookout with TREES? That makes no sense! lol All lookouts in my state are clear cut of trees, because...it's a freaking lookout lol. Sorry. I'm just dumbfounded by that.
You might have a chance to see it still, I read that today the planets were going to be the closest, but you can still watch it all week until the 25th
For me, it wasn’t foggy. I actually got to saw it. My grandpa gave me amazing binoculars. So I was able to see the true gargantuan size of Jupiter and Saturn.
Awesome 2020 ends on a Great Conjunction Gods showing himself don’t give up though this year has been awe fully painful for many. Welcome new age Christmas
Thank you so much for this broadcast and for breaking it down for people like me who do not know much about astronomy but are interested .....I especially appreciated the cultural highlights that the Director shared - I have liked and subscribed- Happy Solstice Everyone : )
If you missed it here are some facts so you don’t get sad about it 1) It will be seen every night till Christmas 2) The next conjunction will be in 2040, but will not be as close as this one 3) the next similar one to this one will not be 800 years from now but only 60 years from now, so if you are young like me, you might be able to see the next one that is very similar to this one
2020.12.21 22:47 Such a pity that in Montreal we have clouds tonight! I saw what I could last Monday and Tuesday. Were close but far apart...Still had both planets inside one field of view with a 70mm telescope, magnitude of 30 . Enough for a glance, on a modest suburb balcony, for my lifetime memory of this event. Like for the 5 am, same place, Venus transit of 2004
There was no conjunction. They have not lined up from our perspective and there has been a sizable gap between them... the gap appeared to increase on the 22 than the 21. And the gap was bigger on the 20 than the 21st. So, they got close but still looked like 2 objects not 1. Seems like a fail on the part of science to not point this fact out before.. because now they just seem like they dont know what they are talkin about to the average person that watches the sky daily.
To people that only look up when they are told it wont mean much. But, to people that sky watch the hype on this for what we got (literally nothing different) jupe has been super bright all year, saturn has been right next it and this has been happening for months or more.
Please settle a friendly debate for our family on whether we actually witnessed the conjunction. It was a very cloudy evening here in NY so we could not see anything for quite a while as the clouds rolled by. Finally we saw the lights, and when we looked through our binoculars, we saw one very bright "star" and then a smaller, fainter one to the upper right of it. Was that in fact Jupiter and Saturn? Or was it something else? We were facing south in Tottenville, Staten Island right over the water. Some images we have seen have said the smaller planet was to the upper left. Was it a matter of timing? Please clarify. Thank you!
As per, the 21st was too cloudy here in London! BUT I managed to see it the day before, and in binocs it was an INCREDIBLE sight!! It's been an incredible year for observing, including my highlight, COMET Neowise!
Jupiter's moon's orbital lane seemed very tilted to that of Saturn's rings. Is that an illusion due to their relative position to Earth or are they really that tilted to each other? A lot of laymen science shows tend togeneralizecand say they are on the same plane, but their pitch appears very different to each other. Also, Saturn's orbital plane around the Sun seems substantially different from Jupiter's. Saturn appears to be moving downwards to while Jupiter is moving upwards in the sky.
Jupiter's orbital inclination is 1.3 degrees, and Saturn's is 2.5 degrees, relative to Earth, which is why not every great conjunction appears this close. Jupiter's axis is tilted only 3 degrees, relative to our orbit around the Sun, but Saturn's is tilted almost 27 degrees, which is why Saturn's rings were tilted so much relative to the lineup of Jupiter's moons.
Of course, it’s not a perfect line. Because the planets don’t have those perfectly circular orbits like you see in tv shows and in books. What the conjunction is, is the planets being the CLOSEST in line with each other. They’re about a degree away from each other in the sky.
Per this lawyers study. The star of Bethlehem was the convergence of Jupiter and the star REGULA. IT Happened in like 2 bc, but it was a triple conjuction, which the 3 Wiseman would of never seen. and ALOT MORE. The star seemed to stop on dec 25th when they were in jerusalem. That is when jupiter stopped and went in opposite direction. It on RUclips. Full hour video.
I had missed that until seeing all these comments about it. After I shared this video on social media everywhere of course. Now I feel bad for having subjected unsuspecting people to witnessing him fart like that. I hope that the beauty of Saturn's rings will override reactions to emissions of other rings.
i actually thought the great conjunction was celebrated because it symbolizes jupiter fulfilling the prophecy in roman mythology with jupiter 'devouring' (jupiter is at the front when seen from earth) saturn instead of the other way around.
