She's absolutely correct. No one can control what these companies print on their labels, unless it's something that is provably false. I spent July in Scotland. Their labels on produce (e.g., a pack of strawberries) not only said the country where it was grown, but the name of the farmer as well! I loved it and it encouraged me to buy local. I actually started to get familiar with the small differences between varieties produced by different farms. Even processed foods had an emphasis on local ingredients on their labels (e.g., a bag of chips has a label stating "100% Great British Potatoes"). Companies should start voluntarily labelling when using local sources. I'd certainly seek them out to support them if so.

The herbicide 2/4/D has been outlawed in USA and Canada, but sold to many third world countries. So guess what you are consuming! They also have an industry regulation(guess who made it up), that states if a company in Canada spends 51 % of the value of the product value that they call it a product of Canada. For example if these industries buy fish from China for 10 cents, they make sure that they spend 11 cents to have it processed in Canada, then call it a product of Canada, leading consumers to believe it was caught in Canadian waters by Canadian fisherman.

Did I say somewhere that 24D wasn't a herbicide, I was stating how it was outlawed in many states in the USA and Canada, but the research(still being debated) showed it was toxic to people and animals. But third world countries are still using this poison and sending their product to America and Canada.

a few years ago a supermarket in the netherlands had a (luckily very shortlived) practice of putting a little story with pictures on the back of products of small family businesses owners that produced the same product that you were buying (so a dairy farmer on the milk, apple farmer on the apples etc)
Like "this is farmer so-and-so, his wife and their two children, this family has been running the family farm and farming apples ever since his dad has left it to him and the farm has been in the family from the mid 1800's... etc"
nowhere on the package did it state that this product was made by this farmer, it just stated that this farmer also produced milk, just like the milk you were buying.
As soon as you realized this, it was quite comical to read the labels, and see how much work had gone into formulating the story in a way that it was always implied but never mentioned that the family farm in the spotlight had anything to do with the product in your hands....

If it is cheap to import from China why would companies buy Canadian concentrate and increase their costs which would at the end increase prices. Chinese, Chilean etc. apple concentrate is actually lowering the prices. As long as companies do not claim their concentrate is from Canada there is nothing wrong and Canada Choice does not really mean 'FROM CANADA' If the public thinks so it is their ignorance. And what difference does it really make you dont need to know the origin of apples and why would you want to. It is the same apple in China and Canada. PS not from Canada
