How about a Robotaxi where the front and back are the same so that there is no forward or reverse . Just twp directions. Then the vehicle doesn't have to turn around. The passengers could rotate their seats 180 degrees depending on which direction you're going?
A couple things people are missing about voice interface because they are thinking in terms of ancient technology from the early 2020s instead of today's tech: 1. Universal translator is solved and trivial to deploy, and all i18n tech previously developed is obsolete. 2. Comprehension is more than adequate, especially with RAG. And all previous chat bot tech is obsolete. 3. Agent integration is mostly solved with tool frameworks. If this sounds over-optimistic, it means you've been living under a rock for a long long time, like at least 6 months.
Any "robotaxi" announcement needs to address the following issues: 1. FSD critical interventions per 10,000 miles to be zero or less. 2. State and Federal regulations / requirements / licensing 3. Vehicle insurance for autonomous driving 4. Opening and closing of doors and windows and charge ports 5. After ride cleaning and maintenance 6. Software app and internal customer automation interface (talking to the car) 7. Vehicle control "plan B", (which will be a joystick controller which will control left right forward and back with no need for pedals) This will be a robotaxi launch ONLY for the simple reason that consumer quantity production lines need to be built in Mexico and China before consumer "model 2" is announced to avoid osborning Model 3. As currently envisioned, Optimus does not have a flexible spine, thus is unable to get into or out of a passenger vehicle. While a robotaxi, with a companion Optimus robot, is ideal (Think Johnny Cab from Total Recall), and would address many of the above issues, I don't think the Optimus timeline is there yet.

No Farzad. Tesla will need millions and millions of Robotaxis each year because of the transportation efficiency, high utility, and recurring revenue for Tesla instead of a onetime sale of a $25k EV. Robotaxis are the future. Individual owned cars is the past. Elon always wants to focus on the future, not the past. Tesla will produce the $25k vehicle after they have fulfilled all of the production requirements of the Robotaxi deployments.
The event should be to announce to the World that Tesla is not just a “Car Company!” They no longer have to sell cars to be successful and extremely profitable. This should be a ChatGTP-type Paradigm Shift Moment.

I dont think the configurations needs to be front forward. You can see that in buses and trains. They have some seats facing each other or to the sides, people can even stand without a problem

I don’t think Optimus will be use for delivery at this early stage because it might get stolen. I think Optimus for a while will not be for public use until Tesla figure out a way to protect it from stolen. The danger of Optimus getting stolen, reconfigured into evil purpose and function is quite serious. Unless they come out with a dumb down version for food delivery so that people won’t be interested in stealing it.
Rideshare drivers have figured out that the best way to increase your earnings per mile is to decrease your cost per mile. For example, buy a 10yr old Prius for 6k with 120k miles on it and drive it into the ground. Tesla’s have a much higher sticker price so creates a problem when factoring in all the other costs.
Larry, Tesla will not sell the Robotaxi, they may lease them to fleet operators, but mostly they will own the majority of the Robotaxis and hire or partner with fleet operators. Tesla wants control of this vehicle. Analysts will see the numbers in their spreadsheets - the recurring annual revenue each vehicle will generate compared to the onetime sale of a $25k EV.
I expect to see the Robotaxi roll up on stage carrying two smoking hot Korean models. They step out of opposite doors to "Vanna White" its features. One selects a destination on her iPhone app. They get back in and the Robotaxi takes them on a short trip through traffic followed by a drone to provide us with the view from behind. They arrive safely to crowd of ecstatic TSLA owners.

So both the Robotaxi and $25k car will/can be simultaneously presented. Rethink; like Farzad (I think ?) mentioned, they’ll want to keep this event for the Robotaxi. For all of it's goodness, v12.3.1 has a long way to go before it's trustworthy.
