Jeep TJ On Golden Spike Trail

- Customer called about their Jeep stuck on Golden Spike Trail with a broken axleshaft. On the older jeeps if the axleshaft breaks, the whole tire trys to leave the chat. So we headed out on Thanksgiving morning to grab it. We got to the vehicle and decided maybe we could weld the axleshaft back together to help easy in the recovery. Once apart we realized we didn't have the special socket to dismantle the locker. So we went back to original plan of carrying it out. To do that we had to remove the spare tire and rack to be able to pick it up from the rear. We had to use extra caution while towing it to keep from damaging the top or the back window. We got it out safely and still made it to dinner on time for Thanksgiving. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

I am the owner of the TJ and I really appreciate Rory and his crew getting it out safely. It was a real drag breaking the axle in the middle of Golden Spike, I knew it wasn't gonna be easy to tow it out. I looked for an axle in the Moab area and nobody had one, towing out was the only option. The guys did a great job and on Thanksgiving Day, which was not expected but very much appreciated. If I would have known they might try and weld it, I had the tool in my box they were missing...bummer. Note: Ordered two new rear Chromoly axles, parts are in and repair/upgrade will be underway. Thanks to the person that said it looks like a nice rig that is capable and also street drivable, it does sort of split the difference, but I did tow it to Moab from Southern CA...good thing I did.
A lot of D35s have met their demise on this trail…TJ 44s or a Ford 8.8 (31 spline) are pretty easy to find these days. Probably worth a swap over a repair.
What did the tow out cost?
Dude totally, the effort and skill needed to do this kinda thing is serious - yet they make it look easy. Like it's just another day etc. Total badasses
Rory's skill never ceases to amaze me, and Sean is a very trusting man. He looks so calm being dragged backwards through those obstacles. He has nerves of steel (or balls of brass).💪 🙈
bronze balls for sure!
Hats off to the cameraman for the extreme bravery! Filming the intro straight from a diamond billed rock pecker nest is really something!!!
Shawn is sitting in the Jeep dangling facing down the waterfall and the amount of concern on his face is about as much as someone looking over a lunch menu.
You're a great team!
The waterfall scene was intense. Rory working multiple winches and feathering the clutch. Mike watching the pole and filming. Mater chugging down to 200rpm. And Sean hanging on for dear life!! 😮
Sean was just sittin there like ''just another day''. It was great.
''I'm alive!'' Like Rory would let anything happen to his buddy lol
I love those camera angles under the rig as you go over obstacles. Kudos to your camera crew. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
And the opening shot/edit for this one was slick.
Mikes got SKILLZ dont he. 👍👍✌
Looks like the left rear axle seal or break seal is leaking
Amazing technica extraction skills. I'm REALLY looking forward to the tow truck Olympics!
The camera work is almost as impressive as the driving. Most people would be too afraid of the obstacles to record anything, much less looking for creative shots.
That opening shot is awesome man. I appreciate you guys. Thanks for sharing
Another great recovery with awesome film work . Shawn , that has to be one heck of a crazy ride being towed backwards along with wild angles side to side and forward and back . You guys are one hell of a team !
That wrecker is a beast, and Rory damn sure knows the limits of his abilities: Endless
Great team work Shawn and Mike. I always enjoy the shows. Thanks guys
Like the editing on the intro. Always fun to go along on any of your recoveries but It’s special when Trail Mater is on the job. I’m surprised Shawn made it as far as he did riding backwards on that terrain.
The nuttiest recovery service for sure. Love watching you guys horsing around and recovering broken-down vehicles. 🤣🤣🤣
Rory and Sean are terrific drivers. Always amazed (and I’ve ridden dirt bikes all over that area). Going up that trail, facing backwards, with three wheels, was Sean, steady the whole way with nerves of steel.
But the pants were dirty.
finally that someone cares about others, who gets the rocks out of the way
Great video! From the first "hole shot" edit to the crazy recovery with shawn dangling in the Jeep to the great drivig skills and camera work, that was a wild adventure. Thanks for bringing us along.
Strong effort on recovery. Im nominating your crew for an academy award on camera work! Love dirt
I just love how much fun you guys have out there doing your job!! You can tell how much you really enjoy what you do and where you do it. Thanks for taking us along on the adventures, Rory, Mike, & Shawn.
Hi Team!! So many things could be commented on… But to Rory it seemed to be one of his more technical, difficult, awkward recoveries…But it was the most hilarious, comic recovery ever!! Poor Sean in that jeep!! “Sea legs “, I’ll say!!! Thank you Mike for the picture of the deep gorge/Canyon..... And the jokes about “nothing going on here, it’s not like we’re on a ledge or anything” , YA RIGHT!! Loved the Dance banter at the end.. was cool, I bet Sean would be the best one, and the coolest dance!! AND the Trail Mater birth of the rock give away, hahaha! Thanks so much for the laughs!! And the holding of my breath on the climbs!!!
remeber when matt moved something and had to put it back .......
AMAZING!!!!!! Excellent driving Rory! This is my most favorite episode so far! Fantastic driving skills and working the winches at the same time! Crazy!👍🏻😎🇺🇸
Love the intro. Very creative. Those are some BIG rocks you relocated there Rory. No matter how many times I see the front wheel crawl it still impresses me, you have fantastic skills. Shawn got quite the ride in reverse. Your camaraderie is wonderful to see. Thanks to Mike and for the excellent cinematography.
Going up the waterfall looked sketchy as a MOFO but look at Sean in the Tj no concern and no fear, it's a testament to faith and trust in you and what you do. GREAT WORK GUYS!
Rory has been moving big rocks that way for thousands of years. Don't try it yourself he's a professional.
I’ve learned a lot from your off road driving techniques! Thanks!
The skill Rory shows, climbing the waterfall, coordinating clutch, winches, and pole and not damaging the customers' rig is impressive, as always. Love the snacheting ratch-block!🤪🤣🤣🤣
That was a wild recovery guys. Ya know, folks pay big money at amusement parks to get a ride like Shawn just got.
Great awesome, recovery and no damage done towing it out! Job well done guys
I wish there would have been a camera inside the Jeep to catch Sean's expressions and reactions. 🤣😂😅😆😁 ya gotta love the guy. Thank you Rory and crew.
Damn !
I love watching Rory
use that torque !
👀
I hope Shawn got some extra goodies for riding backwards and tilted face down. That sucked for him!! Great recovery.
Thanks again for such a wonderful video!
Will the heavy wrecker beat your skills I guess Matt needs more practice in this category.
Not many people can say they have done Golden Spike backwards in a 3 wheeled Jeep, But Shawn can.
Cool video clip with Trail Mater through the rock cave right into Rory's intro... Good morning to the rest of the crew, Mike, Shawn and Chris too.... those brand new BFG's getting their intro to Moab 🙂 Maybe that warning sign should be a 4'x8' with LED flashing lights😂 and the remotes look great in their new home on the roll cage too.... WOW 🥰 a Trail Mater egg, even signed... should be worth $50k on the open market.... Shawn was soo cool and collected while his ride is standing vertical on the trail 🙂... and once again I always stay right to the very end... I LOVE the out take clips 🙂 you can probably paint the ratcheting snatch blocks yellow and sell them to Matt for a HUGE margin
This is a great example of the teamwork required to pull off a recovery like this. Everyone working together to get the job done and still having fun while they do it!
I’m sure the teamwork bit IS the fun, what a team👍🏻 ❤️🇷🇴
You guys are awesome! Thank you so much. I say this because I can always count on your guys to bring a smile to my face and a chuckle to me belly no matter what type of mood i'm in. Awesome recovery as well!!
"The rock in the wheels, goes round and round, round and round".
Rory... you have mad skills. Anybody who tries to tell.ypu how to do.your job us nuts. You are so skilled. Shawn has juevos of steel riding backward through that trail. Great vid guys!!!
Looks like those new BFGs are earning their keep. Why would anyone buy any other tire?
I'd say your commute to work is a little different than takeing the 8:15 into the city!...
Now I picture a flood of calls from broken vehicles looking for the famed rock!
Nice new BFG's!🙂
Wow Rory and his team are awesome removing that big rock and making it easier to navigate the Water Fall with another Jeep in tow. I'm sure the other crawler's appreciate all that you do in keeping the trails passable. Chris is great at crawling these trails and rock's she's a great asset to the Trail Mater team! Sean and Mike are professional and entertaining at the same time! Good job team! You got it out!
I'm afraid I got lost at turn left at the little bush cause all I see is rocks🤣🤣🤣
17:00 that's pretty cool. I seen Ron Pratt uses pulleys on that lower winch (or tied to the frame) so the higher winch cable goes through it and lowers or redirects the pull point. Thanks for sharing 👍
You guys are such a Great team. Good work. Love the humor and the great scenery that Mike shoots.
None of that "looked" sketchy. Looked like an awesome recovery....and definitely fun to watch.
"Ratcheting Snatch Block"....I won't tell nobody. I didn't see nothing. 😉
Oh boy.....them enviro-mentalists will be weighing the universe again....😏Cryin about the rocks out of place....😫...and rock-peckers nesting grounds desecrated.....😖😝
You lads are as good on the camera as you are on trail recoveries. Excellent videos thanks
Awesome job and awesome crew Rory, great recovery skills Rory! Thanks for sharing ! Your friend from Louisiana Kirk! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hey Guys !!! Where's my ""PET"" MATER rock ???? HAHA🙃😉😊 Great video & recovery !!! 🤔🤔👍👍👍👍👍
I love Sean putting Mike on the spot. Lol God bless
Another Great Rescue Guys! GO TEAM MATER! Thanks for Sharing!
Wow!! No thanks on being on that jeep ride!! 😂
you makes me always and always happy guys tks.
What up Sean. Now you know how it feels to go back the same way you came without rewinding. I think you guys have your month wrong.🤷🏽♂️👍🏽🤙🏾🙏🏽👌🏽✋🏽🤪😳😱🤮🤬🤪😊😎.
You guys are AWESOME....joking around and having fun all the time but getting the job done no matter what obstacle arises...Great Job Keep it up and One day hope to drive up there and meet ya'll. Maybe the Tow Truck Olympics
Hey Rory Shawn Mike love ya you guys go above and beyond and that independent Braking system is Amazing just love it Thank you 🙏🏻 👍💪🏻✌️
Give ya tree fiddy + shipping for the rock.
Sketchy job for sure, but expertly handled as usual. Happy late Thanksgiving gang.
Technically speaking, Shawn was land sick!
MIND BLOWN....!!!!
GREAT RECOVERY GUYS...!!!!
A GREAT TEAM IS ALWAYS SUCCESSFUL...!!!!
You should always move rocks and make the trail easier ! ! ! !
YES.
Then people will get stuck further and you can make better money...
Awesome recovery guys 💪🏼👍always having fun at work 😅nothing scetchy here 😂Aloha from Hawaii 🤙🏽😎🌴
I'm curious at how similar trail mater eggs are to diamond billed rock pecker eggs 🤯🤯
But Shawn sitting there getting dragged around backwards, very relaxed.. just another day at the office. That speaks volumes to how well you guys work together. Great channel guys keep it up.
PS. I'm saving up for one of those eggs!
Trail Mater is a BEAST!!!! Paul and Matt better be practicing because they're going to have their hands full going against Team Trail Mater!!
Awesome recovery team doing an almost unbelievable job - and having fun doing it. Thanks guys.
Another great commercial for BFGOODRICH tires. Lol
I’m always amazed at the scenery around Moab. I have missed wheeling there the past view years. Riding backwards like that in the Jeep would have made me sick. Great job on that recovery guys!!!!!
Does the manual transmission have some benefit or is it more of a "if it's not broken don't fix it" type thing? As in it works well for you so it's just not worth changing to auto. I'm pretty comfortable driving a manual but I'm still impressed with your finess with the clutch. Along with your knowledge and skills in general.
And this is exactly why Rory will win the “Tow Truck Olympics!”
Great job guys!
Thanks for the video guys thanks for putting it out there Mike Sean and special guest Roy Irish
Also Rory, and Chris! Couldn't have done it without them!🙂
Staying focused on the recovery's & not trying to sell sell sell products. Keep it original & we'll keep watching.
I’m having a hard time imagining someone can come up with a tow truck Olympics that you guys would lose. Thanks for the fun video!
Wow awesome skills there guys!!! You just cant beat experience.
"Trail Mater laid an egg" Have you guys been leaving the tow truck alone with the diamond billed rock peckers?
I don’t get sea sick until someone else does, then it’s bad. sympathetic puker. Thanks for sharing.
Your camera work is amazing. I like how they catch the climbs, the tires fighting for traction etc.. good stuff and keep it up
Look at those new shoes!
Another case of someplace you shouldn’t be, because of the upgrades you didn’t have
Amazing crew nothing it's too hard looks easy when you do it ✔️✔️✔️✔️
I noticed the rock between the tires early in in the video and again when you were moving the big rocks out of the way. Hopefully no sidewalls were damaged in the process on the new shoes. .
Always fun to watch.
What a beautiful place to work everyday 😍 Perfect weather. Another great video.
Wow once again you guys rock 🎉🎉🫵👊👊🤟🤘
Heck of a team effort ! Some amazing obstacle conquering skills there.👏
Holy criks I’d be scared shitless going up just like going on a 😢wicked ride hahahahahahahaha up here in Canada it’s hilly n kinda flat lands
Rory and your team make recovery look sooo easy but we know otherwise. Keep up these awesome videos. We want to visit you Matt and Paul after the new year. When we see my wifes anut in Santa Claria. Plz stay safe my brothers
Talk about having rocks stuck in your treads!😆
My name is Mike. If I found that rock without seeing this it would make me crazy. I want to drive out there and grab it, but it's too far from Missoula!
That was an awesome recovery. In my mind Trail Mater and crew have already won the tow truck Olympics.
I love all of the "unnecessary front digs"...I sure wish my rig could do that!
Oh man. When that old big block reaches deep for those ugga duggas . . . . no sweeter sound than that if you come from that land of torque where I come from.
I've never gotten into the Geocaching, but i'd be up for egg hunting. Leave some more Trail eggs on various recoveries.
Rory and team for the win at tow truck Olympics. If the other guys ever finish their rigs.
I love seeing the cutting edge tech used on the recoveries. A+
Some events are more impossible than others, if things become totally impossible, you just have to trust the video…
Man you guys are a good example of true teamwork I’m sure there is yelling and throwing we don’t see but you guys get done always fun to watch
After watching this video when it first came out, my family and I was so excited to see if the mater egg was still there. And I have to say the egg was there. The family was so excited.
You guys are good, no fluff!
you should get an inflatable kids pool. they are perfect for catching oil. you can use it inflated or as a tarp deflated they fold up nice and small. also works great for laying in the mud
It's funny going back through the videos and seeing the tread on the tires get bigger the farther back you go lol
The multiple camera angles are on point yet again another great video the egg hunt will be epic for sure and I know what the rock move really was..a flex of power and reliability of your non hf tools winches 😉
