Like any skill, the risk management steps for ice skating is something that can be learned. Erik tested the ice thickness with the pole stabs at the beginning, and perhaps in other ways this video doesn't record. I've just been learning how to do this this year. 10 cm is a very safe thickness. Not that that would stop me from feeling freaked out!

You have a way with cameras and sound. NICE!! I noticed how a large body of flat ice amplified that crow call in the distance. Those end still pictures where great.
That was beautiful. I like that you captured more of that weird sound the ice makes, like a strummed wire under high tension. Do you hike much in those boots? If so, are they just for winter? Snowy conditions seem like that'd be best for those boots. I'm guessing you don't want to risk damaging that bar across the toe the skate clamps on to, so no rock climbing, ...
Excellent video. I take my two young daughters lake skating here in Northern California high country when conditions permit usually in autumn. Then snow comes and cover the ice
