  • I removed the covers when cleaning/flushing the Tempest filters and discovered that no bubbles were raising and the media seemed to be cloged up.

I was not impressed when I saw those filters the first time. Seems to be recommended for ponds a lot bigger than they can really handle. Now more and more reports coming in about problems with them and I am not surprised. Thanks for sharing!
A good filter should be able to cope with 10 days without cleaning or it is undersized for the pond.
    Great vid as always.

I think using the addition of the air to the bottom of the Tempest should help until you can replace the seals on the slide valves. However before you turn on the air be sure to open the upper valve on the Tempest to eliminate any pressure that may be created within the Tempest seeing as with both valves closed it is a pressurized system. Vince (Twisted Koi) noted in one of his videos that he had added air to his Tempest without opening the upper valve and ended up blowing out the seal. Hope you get it sorted soon. 👍🏻

Thanks for the tip, I'll make sure that I keep the top slide valves open. 👍

@@pomfretspond588 I wouldn't, any crap you dislodge might end up going over into the pond. Surely it would be better to remove the black cap (where you introduced water from the hose?

I don't have one of these but it seems to be that the fault is in the way EA expect air to enter via a venturi system. I've watched a few clips of these being cleaned & even for a regular clean, the venturi on the drain doesn't allow much air to enter. Personally, I would want to introduce an airline so I could drain off a bit of water then really hit the media with a decent amount of air, really get it agitated to release all the crap. With this system, the beauty would be that you can turn off the air to inspect your media/watch all the crap sink out

I would of taken the bottom off the tempest and washed the Venturi valve in clean water its obviously blocked not allowing air to enter....

Cheers, I've now fitted an airline too each tempest so that I can bubble up the media for a few minutes before emptying them and it seems to be working fine. Thanks for the advice. 👍

There are no bubbles due to the air none return valve being blocked/knackered you can get new ones easily enough 👍

Also it's pointless rinsing the filter floss in pond water after hitting it with the hosepipe as the chlorine would have already killed and bacteria on the floss 👍

Is that the small round valve that fits on the end of the air tube at the bottom of the Tempest? I took them off and blew down them. Couldn't blow air through one end but could blow air through the other. I'll replace them. Cheers.👍👍

@@pomfretspond588 yes bud and if that doesn't work then it's as you said in your video you have a leak in the top slide valves

@@pomfretspond588 You couldn't blow through because they are one way valves to prevent water leaking out
