One of my fav games I love playing on Ps2 is either Guitar hero 1 to 3 or San Andreas
I rarely game anymore, but I still use my old ps2 as a dvd player. Bought it 17 years ago and it still works great
I know some games seemed good and we're but most were uh..
Interesting to say the least...
WDYM? PS2 had 100+ near "Flawless" titles RPGs, Hack-N-Slash (Devil May Cry, God of War), etc
That's goes for every game system, just look at the switch library for example
Looks at my original Xbox playing DVD movies… (lol nope only the PS2 plays movies)
That's a year and a half of ps2 building it's rep before xbox released
@@PremixedDoge Xbox released 13 months after PS2, not a year and a half.
Further more the codec in the Xbox was actually better for DVD playback.
@@Buckincrazy I'm talking initial release dates here not us and Europe only release dates. Ps2 initially launched in March 2000. It was October for us and europe
@@PremixedDoge Still doesn't change the fact that the Xbox did indeed play DVD movies lol.
@@Buckincrazy back to the initial comment
Well that and star ocean: till the end of the
I just got a PS2 as well. Time to relive my 2002 childhood era of the PS2 I am so glad that I got it. It is the PS2 slim model I am missing just the PS2 memory card
Definitely a big contributor but not the only one. At this point PlayStation was a widely beloved brand so there was a ton of hype surrounding the console. It being able to be a DVD player at the same price and a DVD player was just icing on the cake
These aint popped up 4 ages love these shorts
My mom likes dvd and the ps2 was her pick and gave it to me, love you mom.
Bruh the late 90s early 2000s were the best of times
I was born in 2007 but I grew up with the ps2, PSP, and the NES and It was amazing
Same reason my family got a PS3. I was born in 03' but I grew up playing my dad's old N64 and OG Xbox, then in like 09'-10' we got a PS3 as an all in one thing as a gift. Ended up getting buying a second one just for me to play games on and I still have both of them working to this day.
That Zelda hat was amazing 🤩
Ps2 was crazy back in the day. Everyone I know had one. There are so many great games, too.
I remember playing Stewart little movie in the ps2 Ahhh memories
Didn't know how it was working
😅😂 you had me rollin this exactly how it was ....this why regular dvds got bumped out of the stores singal handedly...
Born in '95 I remember the ps2 being able to watch DVDs was huge. But the backwards compatibility is what sticks with me because I was pissed that I couldn't play ps3 games on my PS4
So accurate. I worked at Best buy during the early Blu-ray days, I sold so many PS3s to Elderly couples lol
This video is so nostalgic it even has the max resolution available back then.
Don’t forget the PS2 also works as a CD player
"The gamecube can't play movies"
*Sands down disc to fit in gamecube*
I had the ps2 and og xbox at the time. For sum reason our PS2 had hard times reading DVD format discs but can play any game correctly. So we used our OG Xbox for games/DVDs. It was so cool at the time. We had like one dvd player but after the xbox and PS2, we preferred the consoles
Still loved that GameCube though. Windwaker was amazing.
It was also the best DVD player. The fast components inside meant the read time of disks were muuuuuch faster.
So true, but the same thing also happened with the PS3 as a Blu-ray player.
Remember seeing the PS2 standing up tall like that for the first time😅 it really made it stand out from the other consoles.
So true the amount of people I knew using those as dvd players
remember how PS1 you put a CD in and hit select and all these colors popped up you could change colors and the way the lines moved, I wish PS 2 and PS 3 did that too
One of the reasons I bought it, DVD players were mad expensive back then.
That was great. I bought it for the games of course but the DVD player was nice.
And music CD’s. Legendary!
The original Xbox also played dvds… albeit you have to use the sensor and remote. In fact arguably it was better in terms of other features as well. For example ripping music cds to the hard drive and certain games allowed that music to be played in game.
I Wanna go back to those days.
Actually you could play dvds on the og xbox but you needed the remote accersory
Oh man I remember growing up with a PS2. I loved playing Spyro and DragonBall. I also remember my older sisters raging at Final Fantasy 10 and Kingdom Hearts. I also remember playing Lego Star Wars with my old friend. Good times.
Pretty Much……………
It also KILLED the Dreamcast and SEGA even on paper, before it’s release.
Bro this guys whole channel is making ads for old consoles 💀
As a Dreamcast owner who worked at bestbuy during this period.. i tried my hardest to steer customers towards the Dreamcast but that DVD player in the ps2 was impossible for many customers to ignore. RIP SEGA!!
Dreamcast4life!!
Real ogs knew that DVD players coated like 1k ps2 was a steal
This is so true, I loved playing games in the PS2 console and being able to pop in a movie disk to enjoy and relax afterwards.
OG Xbox could play DVD’s as well if you had the accessory
I just got a ps2 for Christmas and this is how I was when I played bully and gta vice city 😊
Only ppl who never own a saturn was impressed by a ps2 that played movies.
When the DVD player first dropped it was litterally $1000
Same happened at ps3 launch back in 07, except Blu-rays' were quite fewer popular than DVD
Was even better in that golden period of ps2’s being only £50 used but a new DVD player costing £100
When Blu Ray players came out and were like 1k+. What a time to be alive.
DVD players were way more expensive. That’s why the PS2 sold so well 👍🏽
You forget the old dvd/ blu-ray player full surround system plug ins in the back. I still use one since it has optical for sound and sounds better than any build in tv speakers so I just have the optical going to my TV so all my consoles and TV sticks use it for sound.
Dude looks like Caillou but he lived
PS2 was my first dvd player, even got the remote for it
The PlayStation1 was a huge success so when they announced a new consol that could play all your old ps1 games and the new ones which were a huge advancement in technology and play fancy new dvds it was a no brainer
