All spots came from Game 3 of Flyers-Rangers from the date mentioned here.
These commercials during Flyers playoff game...the first year they won it all
Holy shit it's Betty What a 2:44 doing a Tastykake commercial.
I'll be damn! The legend herself #BettyWhite, did a Tastykake commercial???
Wow! Terrific Philadelphia area timepiece!! I grew up on Tastykakes! I'll bet I watched this playoff game on my little black and white TV when it happened. Fun!
Great video! I'm from Pittsburgh but love Tastykake! And we used to watch WTAF 29 from Philly when we were in Wildwood. It was on channel 13. And KYW was 3 and WCAU was 10! Loved those Philly stations.
These were the good old days
Finally, an M.A.B. Paints commercial! Those are very hard to find!
How about those Giraaaahd Bank commercials? That bank was so modern at the time - not only its big '70s-style G logo but not much later in the '70s "George" showed up, which had to be the earliest ATM in the Delaware Valley.
Peter Thomas on the one car commercial I believe
I love the Girad bank commercial. "We won't rip you off like the other banks" 😂😂🤔
3:57 the iconic voice of Peter Thomas for Ford.
This series of ads is amazing. Other than a TV station, who the heck had a video tape recorder in 1974? And how did a Newfoundlander get hold of them? (Was it all because the junior Flyers kids were on the ice grabbing those Tastykakes?) Even with the miracle of RUclips we rarely get treated to local Philadelphia TV commercials from before the 1980s. So many of these ads I had forgotten but they are definitely familiar now that I am seeing them for the first time in ages.
A lot of the old '70s stuff I got from other people.
@@retronewfoundland Well, however you got this, thank you for sharing so a kid who grew up watching Philadelphia UHF stations could reminisce so clearly four decades later.
Damn... I feel like I'm in grade school again!
3:50 is that Betty White?
Sounds like her.
Yes
You bet...surprising that she would do spots for what was a regional product (side note--while they advertised nationally on the PEANUTS specials, Dolly Madison snack cakes were only available in the western half of the U.S.--I didn't see them in New England until the late 80's, and now Zingers are marketed under the Hostess name, by the same people who acquired the brand)
Yes!
BTW WTAF is now WXTF if I'm right
I think it's WTXF.
@@retronewfoundland Yeppers! I had the X and T backwards 😆
Sounds like Merrell Reese on the Billie Jean King Freedom commercial
It definitely is.
I forgot we had a few Hardees in the Delaware Valley back then, soon to disappear back to the South and then reappear in the '90s or thereabouts and then disappear again.
Currently, there's a Hardee's in York, PA on US-30 W.
