IGPSport IGS630 GPS Bike Computer: Surprisingly good apart from Lack of Garmin/Wahoo Type Ecosystem
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 окт 2024
- This is the IGPSport 630, it is pretty good as a GPS unit, it's faultless. It works every time and has physical buttons.
The only thing it lacks is the ecosystem around it. Garmin and Wahoo have additional bolt on additions like scales, watches etc. This doesn't have any of that.

Glad I finally have the habit to turn the fucking sound down when hambini pops up.
As a headphone user, it is absolutely imperative to turn the volume down.

Me too!
I leave it on because it pisses my missus off.
Hambini: Giving people tinnitus since 1971
I think this is one of those products where the strength of the stuff that's not in the box will have more sway than the item itself. People have become so hooked on Garmin's connect that it will require something pretty big for them to swap to another platform. That will probably be the Achilles heel.
I know what you mean. I have a garmin watch, GPS, HRM and Tacx Turbo. They have you hooked by stealth.
Doesn't have the "penetration of Garmin". Definitely a selling point of the igps, not being penetrated by Garmin.
Where's the Power Point presentation?
@@georgesteele9718 seems like the penis not working
@@theillegalimmigrant9314 Same, plus I have the Garmin S2 scale :D Once hooked on Garmin Connect, you can't go back. I would buy a fart sensor if it's connected to GC. Just imagine, having your number of farts on your watch. I can't imagine a single guy that won't buy this.
The marketing rep who sent Hambini this is either very ballsy or super confident of the product. It worked out well in the end. 😂
They probably know that I'm not electrically biased so I'm not going to rip the back off it and say that Chip XYZ is garbage and it doesn't have enough RAM or needs a Linus Tech Tips screwdriver to take it apart.
@@Hambini, we were all anxiously waiting for a power point session.
@@MrJx4000no kidding…..I guess the pen is NOT working

I have the IGS 630 "S", supposedly an upgraded version and i am supper happy with it! does everything big brands do! plenty of battery life, navigation is quite precise.
Sure there isnt any "G***N Connect" level stuff, but as i use komoot to plan my rides, doesn't bother me.
The only issue i found with it is that the "navigate to POI" function does not work very well, Ie, the device fails to calculate a route, however i prefer to pull the phone, plan a proper route on komoot & send it to the GPS, that way i wont gonna be directed to the M1! 🤣
I have their radar too and one of their smart lights, all work flawlessly.
For half the cost (or maybe less) i have a setup that does most of what the big brands do.. (My 2cents.) Dosent have live segments, but i'm not dreaming to beat anyone.. 🤣 trust to weight issues here.
No issues pairing my stages or HR band to it.
Oh and an important point (for me at least!!) its not TOUTCH! I hate when my older GPS kept changing pages as soon as a drop of sweat or rain fell on it!
How's the sound level with the radar? I can barely hear it, especially in traffic. I'm using a Garmin Tail Light Radar.
@@georgelouie5330 The radar itself does not make any sounds, but the head unit makes the normal "beeping". Sound is fine, perhaps a bit annoying in heavy traffic. The computer then displays a sidebar with color and approx position. Color varies with closure rate.
@@jsva8661- Thanks for the reply. i know the sound comes from the GPS computer module, but its just very weak. I can barely hear it when riding. Its supposed to be loud, so you can hear it the visual indicator works just fine.
@@georgelouie5330Mine sounds normal, I would say a bit too loud to be honest as it draws a lot of attention from people nerarby.
There is a setting on my computer to change the volume, maybe yours needs setting?
"HELLLOOOOO" nearly burst my eardrums.
Nearly? You didn't turn it up high enough.
first time?
You must be new :)
"Surprisingly good apart from Lack of Garmin/Wahoo Type Ecosystem" Careful with 'ecosystem' Isn't it the same thing that has Apple getting sued around the globe?
I have this, paid for with my own hard earned cash. It's my first bike GPS and I got it primarily for navigation in the rain. Took me a while to realise that I had to download maps via my phone or else I was just following a crumb trail. Don't assume that people know how to do this stuff. Some of us are over 50. The main difficulty I have is reading the unit, I need reading glasses +1, not outrageous, but when out riding it's a challenge to see where I've been on the route, where I am and where I'm going. If there was a strong colour shift to separate these parameters it would help. Light blue next to slightly darker blue doesn't cut it. (if it can be done in the software pls let me know). I still consider it good value, and think that Garmin etc is overpriced, The push button interface is good in the rain with gloves. Easy to import gpx routes created on komoot or strava via the phone software.
So it also is possible to record a route and upload it to Strava from the device, right?
I've been using one of these for a while now. It works just fine, just like its more expensive competitors.
omg nooooo, really?
Been using the iGPS BSC200 for 6 months and I couldn't be happier with it. Works like a charm, super reliable, and battery lasting double than a Garmin unit. It only lacks something like the Climbpro (wish they add it in a firmware update) and Strava Live Segments (I think they have to pay Strava license).
It cost me 60€ with the extended mount. Unbeatable
As a Strava user, I don't miss the Garmin ecosystem at all.
No license costs for Strava Live Segments. They just need approval.
@@irfuel Wow, I didn't know.
I bought basic bike computer from them to record GPS files for like 35$ back in 2017, been working flawlessly, battery still hold for weeks, even got some firmware updates years later. Only thing that broke is screen backlight when I accidentally dropped it on concrete floor from 2 storey height in parking lot.
Glad to see them still doing well with newer tech. Really affordable and high quality products (at least it was, don't know what market for "noname" computers is today)
iGS20E was the model, it's crazy how cheap it was at the time with all the features, when featureless bike computers with GPS from know brands started around 80 euro at that time
I have the BSC300 from igpsports, and it's great. Got it about a month ago, no problems, battery is great, only the beeping is kinda anoying. I find them to be a great alternative to a wahoo. Regarding the buttons that are too close to the handlebar, those are the lap and pause/start button, which I don't really use that often, since I use auto pause
Froomes is actually the 800 that isn't released yet. Screen looks really nice from the promo vids. Finally the end of the huge bezel!
Any word on the additional features and cost of the 800 and when it's projected to come out? I was probably going to get the 630 as I have no desire to massively overpay one of two companies that obviously collude to keep computer prices higher than they should be for devices that don't do anything that this one does that I might actually want, use and need, but am willing to wait a bit if it's pretty soon. It's amazing how cultish the cycling community can be about bikes & accessories.
I remember back in the old days when the first electronic cyclocomputers displayed just the essentials, like your speed, maybe your pedaling cadence. That was all you needed to know then, and in my opinion (such as it is) all you still need to know. Sometimes I think that all the features and displays presented by today’s gizmos take away from the enjoyment of cycling. You spend more time looking are your computer and fiddling with it while riding as the world about you goes by. You want all those things for betting from Point A to Point B? Get an automobile. Or an airplane.
I use my gps head unit with komoot to plan routes I would never have done before, found loads of awesome new tracks and routes since getting one :)
I would rather have not people riding an automobile fiddling with computers, instead I would like them to pay attention to the road. And to take an airplane for a 50 mile ride/flight, really?
It depends on what you're trying to do. If you're trying to ride competitively, power and GPS are very useful. If you're just riding recreationally, you don't need a computer at all. I tour with paper maps and no computer, because I like doing it that way. If I really have a problem, I can fire up my phone.
The old days? Back in my day we still had a cable driving the Speedo off the front wheel😂
@@nigelliam153 😀😀😀
i have been using the same unit for about a year and a half now. It has been flawless so far. This the best value/bang for buck out at the moment.
Maps pre- installed?
Does it display left and right power? (Or percentage summary at the end of ride)
@@merckxy54 yes - and can be updated easily, you turn it off, plug it into your computer and it shows up as a USB drive and you just download the updated maps from the igpsport website and drag them across.
@@donwinston need to double check - only just got mine setup. It does record left and right power if you have a dual sided power meter as I've uploaded the FIT file to DCRainMaker analysis and seen it.
I have the IGS630s, imo the bang for buck is far better than with Garmin, that is if you can live without Garmin connect and Live Segments.
Great review but for no obvious reason it kinda feels like a drop ship item. I'd like to see a long term review.
"The display is bright at night" lol Hows it during the day?
No Reaming needed 😢😢😢 I am missing a good reaming... That said This looks good. Having to buy a Garmin makes me 🤮 in my own mouth as they pay money to Cade Media & GCN shill fest.. This I would happily pay for. Good stuff👍👍👍
I like mine, it's user friendly and the data fields are great. I have had it crash once when attempting to save a ride, tried everything but ended up having to press and hold power until it shut down. Lost all of the ride data. Did a firmware update immediately, hasn't happened again but it's at the back of my mind every time i finish a ride now.
im using the igs630s its really good value! i also recently had a dark corner issue which they had made exchange for me, pretty good post sale i would say.
... keep bangin your hairdresser. It's a bloke Hamo. A bloke!
Hammy I loved my igs630 till I tried to use Varia radar! Visual works but sound is so low you can hardly hear indoors let alone on the road. To bad really some great features. Tech help is well you know tech help!😅
I just bought one. My first bike computer, its well made and easy to use. The print-size in manual is too small, but basic function is pretty straightforward.
The display is easy to read and the display pages can be configured to show the data while you ride. If you want to change the data it displays while riding, its MUCH MUCH easier using the phone app to connect in. The App display page is much easier to use for that.
It does connect to Garmin and Wahoo peripherals using the ANT+ protocol. I was able connect it immediately to my Wahoo cadence sensor and my Garmin Tail Light Radar.
The ONLY issue I have is that the "car approaching" warning sound/beeps are very weak, i can only hear it if its quiet and I'm actively listening for it (sort of defeats the purpose). The beep needs to he much louder. I'm hoping they can fix this via a firmware update.
I use mine with a Garmin radar and found the beeps loud enough for others to hear. Can't remember if there's a volume control?
I bought 2 igps630 a couple of years ago and the buttons have all disintegrated. This was the older model to this one. Ours came with a silicone protector cover so the buttons haven’t been exposed to harsh sunlight. They do not provide a replacement case as a spare part. We could no longer ride in the rain with these. Not sure how long a garmin lasts but if you got 6 years out of one they’re probably better value over the long term.
Note: I contacted sport and for $30 usd they sent me two new cases. Interestingly one of mine had T5 security screw the other had one of those propeller shaped screws designed not to unscrew.
Left handed drill did the trick on that one.
that's interesting. this one is now my daily driver and it gets thrashed. I mainly have it because the battery life is another league to the garmin. It just works and stays on.
Wait, the great Chris Froome uses an "off-brand" bike computer and not a Garmin or Wahoo? My have the mighty fallen! Will he be doing promos for Burger King and Aldi next? 🤣
Not knocking this computer or the company, mind you. I'll probably buy it or another one of theirs soon as I need a new one to replace my ancient wired CatEye and no way am I paying Garmin or Wahoo prices. But I thought that all pro cyclists basically only rode bikes, wore kits and used devices by major sponsors. Is IGPS one now?
Maybe he has to buy his own now😂 I have the 620 cost 50€ on lazada been using it for over 3 years no worries except the original hrm suffered interference from 5g towers. The new hrm is fine only cost €12 to upgrade.
@@nigelliam153 Heh, I doubt it, but clearly he's focused on life post-cycling. And I just ordered the 630 and am looking forward to using it.

They've just announced the next gen / Wider screen version, the IGS 800, for which preorder have not yet started but it shoud be a matter of weeks if not days. Aim i guess is more towards long distance cycling / komooot users kind of market.
Subsequent product igs630s are released and there is no firmware update. It is abandoned by the manufacturer

I'm on the Amazon page right now. I'll probably pull he trigger in a day or two when I'm done thoroughly looking for information and reviews. Look at it this way. If they sell enough units they will probably do add-ons in the future. If not, who cares.

I am another user of this device. Very Happy and really good for the price. Only missed a touch screen. Battery life is long and GPS accuracy is fine.
iGS800 is coming very soon :)
Only an idiot buys garmin these days. Ive had it up to my ears with their bugs. Wont remember settings bugs, Backlight will do what it wants, when it wants and not according to what the settings are. Units will randomly shut down in a hard crash, when close to a turn it starts freaking out and does not know where you are on the map any more and refuses to give you updates as to your position, then you go down the wrong turn and it will tell you yo go back. I am NOT buying another garmin. I am not. I will get a wahoo or any other manufacturer but it WONT be a garmin.
Unfortunately I don't think there's a unit that is perfect for everyone - price, functionality, bugs etc, all come into the equation. My Hammerhead Karoo is fantastic except for those REALLY important long rides that I've trained all year for and the thing runs out of battery!!!!
Frustrating...
Garmin bike head units, especially the touch screen ones if you ride in wet weather, are awful, but their watches are so good it's hard to believe the same company makes them. I get better battery life recording spins on my watch than I ever got with a much bulkier head unit (Where the battery life dropped to 4 or 5 hours with the screen off after a few years). It also connects to my cadence and speed sensors and it records heart rate from my wrist well enough for my purposes so no messing with a chest strap.
Have used this unit for a year or so and works great. Also has excellent integration for the Garmin Varia radar which I don't think was mentioned.
Judging by the specs, it looks great, especially the battery life.
The only downside I’ve found for the iga 630. Is that once you go over 100km(may have changed as I haven’t got the latest firmware) It not longer displays decimal points.
So 101.2km is just 101km. It’s a first world problem yes but it’s nice to know.
Same. This is an "Issue" For me too. Hope they fix in an update.
Is the pen working though?
Can you get a Magene C606 sent to you? I'd love to know the comparison between that and the IGPsport 630. I just got he Magene and find it unreal. still working out some kinks but I get CGM notifications from the phone on the head unit.
Does climb pro exist in the magene? Or something alike
can you send kamoot routes to it?
Is it possible to pull the ride files off of the unit and put them into your ecosystem manually? I'm guessing yes.
Also how was it with being wet, like rain and such?
I'm so invested in Garmin as a system but I'd love an alternative, even if I have to move fit files around myself.
In the app you can export the data as an .fit-file that you can than import. Works good enough, for me at least.
Got an BSC100S to try. bought from aliexpress its ok but from amazon its over priced. I like my garmin connect and like you say it lacks integration. Cheaper ons are very basic but fine if you upload to strava.
Sir, I my hair dresser is a man.
Only issue I have with it is that it won't charge while turned on...makes me nervous on my 200-300+ mile rides. I currently us a "Xoss" so I'm a big fan of non brand name good devices
Mine charges while turned on, I recently built a kind of giant central battery bank for muti day trips/touring and I've been testing it with this unit and it worked fine, was still 100% after many hours of riding I'd check it agin with some differnt cables or somthing.
@@chris1275ccthanks!!! I literally asked the manufacturer and they told me it couldn't charge while on which stopped me from buying it 😂
for sure hairdresser and F garmin, not using one and very happy
What is on your picture to this video? This is not a Chris Froom's bike computer......... He use IGPSport BSC800 model...
garmin deserves a slap in the face for this buggy garbage they got us hooked on (and for their pricing model and for the incompatibility of their devices).
at least the IGS630 has a consistent UI compared to my edge 1040 which is all over the place with menus etc.
What maps does it come with. My Garmin 800 had none , so I had to buy/ download maps for Europe , especially Italy where I now live1
😥 *Promo sm*
I brought the iGS520 some time ago and it was great. Much cheaper than the equivalent Garmin and did pretty much the same. I was then asked to trial the BSC300 (it’s a great piece of kit as well) and if I posted a review on Amazon within a certain timeframe I got it for free, which I did. The iGSPORT products are very good, but the app needs more attention and as the 5 yr old said, the wider support is missing but it will take time.
Been using these for a few years.
Ours cost about €50 for the 620.
Pros - cheap and work off US, Russian and Chinese satellites.
Cons- the original white hrm was subject to interference from 5g towers. The new black hrm has no worries.
Also the battery failed on one unit after a year. Igpsport do not sell a replacement but I was able to buy a new battery online for €2 and swap out. FYI you need a soldering iron. I also used left hand drill bit to remove the security screws then replaced with Philips head.
Can measure anything to a thousands of a bee's privates, uses a crap tape measure for about measurements, well i guess he is a five year old after all.
I don't even like pushbikes, but some how i always watch.
It's very comparable with what Bryton has to offer. Same story, Garmin compatible. FIT files to upload via mobile, into their on-line site.
There is a lot of good quality alternative kit and components coming out that is really showing up the mainstream industry. As for Garmin connect, if this thing uploads to Strava surely you can then upload from Strava to Connect?
Can it subtlety control a discreet e-bike motor? Asking for a friend who needs to lower his heartrate while increasing his Watts up a TDF climb.
Ive got one and its been really good so far. Features and functionallity wise it falls somwhere between the last 2 Garmin generations, the UI is basically a clone of the old Garmin 520 which was a bit "meh" but once you figred it out it is/was fine. Worth noting is it has its own version of climb pro too called i-Climb (which made me chuckle as I thought we had seen the back of lesser tech comapanys putting "i" in front of everyting ) you need to have a route planned for it to work but it's pretty accurate and useful. Surprised they dont shout about it more to be honest as its got to be the cheapest unit with that feature on the market by quite a bit.
i'm not sure what you mean by ecosystem. wahoo doesn't really have one either, it kind of sucks. even then, we pretty much all use third party apps. but i find the IGPSport app to be pretty good and almost as good as garmin
Hi 😁, I agree, I've had for over a year now and I can't fault it, accept for not connecting with garmin 👍👍👍
I'll wait a little longer, the new 800 will be presented on April 6th, 2024
.?
What's the climbpro feature like? Must be handy when following a route up unfamiliar hills
My first bike gps was from the same brand it was good bang for the buck it even has an app to upload on Strava. I switched to an etrex because i needed cartographics info for really long rides offroad. But the etrex was so bulky and the battery drained pretty fast. My last gps is a 530 it’s all i need for mtb and road however i do also have an instinct 2 for other sports ( gym, run, cross-country ski ecc) and the ecosystem hooked me …
From the thumbnail I thought you had stolen Chris Froome's actual unit lol
I use a igpsport50e unit for 5 years. Flawless apart the rubber for water proofing is gone.
Growing up i used to think seeing westward ho on coaches was just a day out thing for old people 😂
Does anyone know how this compares to the BSC300?
Does it display left and right power? (At least a summary if not real time)
Doesn’t IPT use Hammerhead Karoo head units.
I've got one as a back up to my Bolt. It's pretty good, even excellent given the price and superb battery life, although it is 'button pushing city' to use and the app requires regular re-logging in which gets to be an annoyance. All in all, great bit of kit for the money (l'm a very middling endurance rider).
Question does it allow the transfer of a fit file without using the phone app.
I am looking at this and the one that is like $40 on Alliexpress
Been using one for 6 months , usually a wahoo fan but fancied something new and its bloody excellent and the wahoo hasn't been used for months ... Recommended

I had the igpsport computer 618 years ago and apart from no touch function it worked really well until the crappy USB port died. Id probably still be using it if not for that. Using Garmin since with no complaints apart from poor battery life. I still have a very ok cateye as my backup which imo is one of the best bike computers for battery life.

Will it load to training peaks?
Can't you upload the activity files to Garmin connect?
probably but it's extra hassle and why bother if your health stats aren't being fed in as well
How is navigation? I have IGS520 from the same manufacturer and I didn't find it very good in the area. Planning a sortie on the app is a bit of a nightmare as it seem confusing road with pathway or event trail.
I have a 520 which I bought for navigation. I agree setting the track is a nightmare. First off the filename needs to be 8 chars or fewer otherwise the 520 cannot find it! They don't tell you that in the instructions. It's a long time since I used navigation but recording rides has been very reliable.
Brother in law set up a ride on his Garmin. Supposedly for road bikes but it sent us along a farm track and through a forest. I think that is a property of Google maps when I tried to make a bike route for the 520 it would not let me cross a traffic roundabout. I had to switch to the car route option.
