Tech 2023: Here's What You REALLY Need to Know | Top 10 Technology Innovations and Trends

- What tech trends are in store for 2023? 2022 will go down as one of the craziest years on record in the technology world. Tech stocks imploded, wiping out trillions of dollars in company value, Elon agreed then reneged then bought Twitter, and we saw possibly the most insane fraud of all time. So what comes next? Will technology come roaring back? Will crypto die off forever? It’s hard to believe, but 2023 will be even crazier than last year.
I’m a silicon valley venture capitalist, so part of my job is to anticipate what’s coming around the corner as I look for the next big thing. And here’s my predictions for 10 massive technology trends in store for 2023.
#1 Crypto winter…or ice age?
FTX set off a chain reaction in crypto. We saw coin value plummet immediately, billions of dollars taken out of Binance and Coinbase, and companies like Exotic Markets and Ikigai go under as their assets were frozen on FTX. And while crypto enthusiasts were quick to point out the limits of the contagion. In 2023, we’ll see the beginnings of a crypto ice age that is longer and deeper than any before.
Regardless of what you think of crypto as a technical marvel, greed has been the killer app fueling crypto’s meteoric rise, and the deflation of this runs so much deeper than just FTX. Interest in DeFi will slow to crawl, the many virtual wallet companies will recede into the background, and the crypto companies that survive will focus on niche but real utilities like digital art, or find ways to serve traditional web2 companies.
#2 Misinformation on center stage
But the FTX crash may one day ultimately be most remembered for what it revealed about our mainstream media. While the media is supposed to be a check on authority and power, it’s becoming ever clearer that consumers will have to play a more active role in truth seeking in the years to come. And it’s clear that social media may not be coming to the rescue.
Facebook is sliding into irrelevance for genZ while Zuck bets tens of billions on VR as the future, while Twitter is being carved up by Elon and creators are looking for an exit door.
And there’s a window of opportunity for earlier stage social startups as well: looking at the app store in the U.S. today, 4 of the top 6 free apps are new apps, all productizing a new game-changing technology called generative AI that’s taking over.
#3 Generative AI Revolution
If you've logged on to any social media app this week, you've probably seen pictures of your friends re-imagined as princesses, astronauts or animé characters. Apps like Lensa use generative AI to machine render digital portraits based on uploaded selfies. But this is just scratching the surface of what’s possible with generative AI. It’s no surprise these generative AI technologies have exploded in popularity, faster than any other developer technology we’ve seen in history. When Stable Diffusion 2 was released, developer adoption went completely bananas, outpacing what revolutionary technologies like ethereum took years to do in just a matter of days. Chat GPT reached 2M users within moments after its launch. But this is just the beginning of the coming generative AI revolution. The pace of innovation is incredible, as with the arrival of GPT4 and each successive model release, the technology improves yet another 5x.

I think treatment with Gene editing, I am expecting a HIV vaccine based on Moderna's mRNA.
I am predicting driverless cars would advance rapidly this year.
I am also predicting Twitter would launch a payment infrastructure that uses coins.
I predict advancements in cryogenics.

The new golden age of automation for every facet of life that follows the debut of the first AGI accepted as such through broad consensus. OpenAI offers just a dim reflection of what will come later this year. We’re at the base of a new 10 year cycle in human advancement and at the entrance to a new Industrial Age.
I agree what we have today from OpenAI today should be heavily eclipsed in a very short time frame, and it's crazy to think what's possible in 10 years
