I used to love Airplanes and Airplanes Pt. 2 with Eminem as a child just starting to explore different genres. The fact that Bored to Death came right after is hilarious because I tried so hard to like Blink-182 after the final album with Tom. Okay so jefferson airplane is good, jefferson starship is also pretty good and was also in the star wars holiday special, and then we have jefferson airplanes bastardized love grand-child who snorted too much of ronnie regans secret blow reservation and tried attempting to make a new wave track but his only exposure to new wave was a kid's movie composition.

I remember playing in a band briefly because a small music school I went to was trying to start one at the time and knowing I was moderately experienced on guitar they asked me join. I went in day one to find the setlist made up of a lot of generic pop songs like Ex's & Oh's by Elle King which already shouldve been a red flag. One of the songs on the list though was Bored to Death by Blink 182 and when I listened to it the first time ngl I didnt vibe with it too much. That wasnt too much of a big deal though because I figured if I learned it Id appreciate it more like I do with most songs anyways but soon realized the more I learned it the more I just dreaded having to play it live. That lead guitar part during the chorus is one of the most fundamentally boring things Ive ever had to play and no matter what I did to it it always ended up sounding like something out of some generic christian contemporary rock type song and honestly I straight up left the band a month or two after joining mostly so Id just never have to play that song again.
Well, considering the dude playing guitar in the actual song was, and I quote from an interview, "surprised at how complex Blink-182 songs could get on guitar", its not shocking that the song is really basic and boring lol. I'll defend the California Album forever, but Bored to Death was definitely a lowpoint in the band's creativity, which is really saying something since Blink was never a particularly technical or innovative band to begin with.
Shout out to whoever suggested Essplode. Other than throwing the the round ball probably my favorite song on that album. Definitely one of the harder animal collective albums to stomach though. It was mixed very poorly

Sweater weather I actually like for the most part outside of the chorus, just has a chill vibe to it that I can't really explain. Also, I feel like tubthumping is kind of a weird one because the song is INTENTIONALLY boring and bad because they basically were a punk band that was signed by a label who didn't do research on them, so they made the most shitty yet catchy song they could come up with. That way they could make the label looks stupid and make a joke out of the whole pop scene in the UK at the time.

I have tubthumping PTSD because when we run around the gym in PE, that's one of the songs that always pops comes on.
Brad, you DO know the chorus in "Cupid's Chokehold" is sampled from Supertramp's "Breakfast In America", right?
*RIGHT??*
this is a good video on a bad channel or something idk havent watched yet
what i wouldn’t give to hear brad talk about ghost more. it’s the first band i’ve ever actually gotten really into, and has given me so much more appreciation for music and expanded my taste in ways i never would’ve guessed. i think mary on a cross in particular is great because it works as a gateway drug to the rest of the band, and the rest of the band is a gateway to more metal.
Your sentiment echoes my own
This is an old comment but I 100% agree; the two or so times he's brought Ghost up for one reason or another have made me stim from the mere mention of them lol. So happy to see they're much more popular now, I was very confused by the comments in the chat saying they "fell off" when they're definitely at their peak of popularity atm
I used to love Airplanes and Airplanes Pt. 2 with Eminem as a child just starting to explore different genres. The fact that Bored to Death came right after is hilarious because I tried so hard to like Blink-182 after the final album with Tom. The Dogs Eating Dogs EP is underrated imo after going back to it recently.
I cannot bring myself to hate “Hello”. I know it’s earwormy and kind of annoying and honestly nothing special, but it has a certain charm to it that is infectious. Also, for myself, it is super nostalgic.
Also, I do think that modern Blink-182 (minus EDGING) is definitely pretty shallow, but Blink always has an energy to it that elevates it above others to me.
Seeing Brad react to that fact that Jefferson airplane and starship are the same band was beautiful
I remember HATING essplode and everything off of danse manatee by anco. eventually i came back to it and unironically really love how it all comes together.
15:40 this song was made like a decade ago and rivers decided to repurpose it for VW. The og song is called Cockroach and tons of people uploaded it on yt after he started selling the demos
its nostalgia poisoning but i still like sweater weather 😔
also that “i know im young but if i had to choose her or the sun” bit of cupids chokehold is the only part i like imo
Nah you're fine, Sweater Weather's a bop.
More accurate title: Brad shits on every song I enjoyed growing up because he’s already heard them on the radio a couple times(part 2)
Fr, We Built This City's a classic
11:58
With the way that's its cut, it sounds like that Rick Roll edit but with Uzi. "You know the rule. Say good bye."
"I don't really care if you cry. Die."
Yeah Jefferson Airplane became Jefferson Starship in the 80s. My mother hates the evolution just as much as you do lol
The knife to the heart when Brad says a song you like sucks ass lol pain
Gangnam Style is honestly a vibe
Yeah XO tour life is just a good song, I will die on that hill.
I feel like one of the best examples of this is Jack Sparrow by The Lonely Island and even though that’s probably the whole point of the song… Michael Bolton’s vocals are incredible
That one Kidz Bop stream completely ruined Lucid Dreams for me
literally my thoughts
THEY MADE ⚪️ WHITE ⬜️ 🐰RABBIT 🐇 😩😩 (really tho, that was a massive shock to me as well.. and then followed by Apple Tool Jeans this vid is just several slaps with a folding chair. thanks brad!
I LOST MY WAYYY AGAAAAIIIN THROUGH THE STOOOOOORM THROUGH THE RAAAAAAIN
A lot of these songs aren’t even that bad what is brads audience on sometimes
19:16 also you guys see who he said he’ll be right
I always hear "after dark" during the chorus of "sweater weather"
I love your content, Brad! Keep it up!
ARE YOU THE REALLLL RADIOHEAD
@@newmystery7753 Yes, it is me, the Radiohead
does anyone have an unmuted version of this
really I just want that clip of Brad going WE BUILT THIS CITY ON COCK AND BAAAALLLLS because it needs to be a meme
Bruh gives you hell was such a banger when I was in high school. Had a break up and listened to it god damn. Miss that
I can't believe there are people out there who think that Yeah is a bad song.
Yeah I'm one of them
@@jartism No idea why.
@@crowfather0249 I just find that entire era of late 2000s early 2010s club anthem shit unbearable
@@jartism Well for one, the song came out in 2004. And two, just because you don't like the genre doesn't make the song bad. I hate rock music, but you'll never see me say that the Goo Goo Dolls suck.
@@jartism i respect your opinion on this genre (a lot of people feel this way) but for the life of me i cannot understand 💀 i love how the music has absolutely no deep meaning and it's just about having fun. such fun music, could be nostalgia for me, but damn i love it
I remember playing in a band briefly because a small music school I went to was trying to start one at the time and knowing I was moderately experienced on guitar they asked me join.
I got so excited when Brad got to ghost, I’ve known them before their song blew up on tick tock and honestly they’re so cool. My friend saw them live and they always put on an amazing show ❤🤘🤘🤘
Sweater weather I actually like for the most part outside of the chorus, just has a chill vibe to it that I can't really explain.
God, when I hear Tubthumping, I think of a football game, it just fits so well. Also I used to hear it on the radio on my way to school back in the day, so it's kinda nostalgic for me.
The best hook on a bad song (although I presenally like it) is Mask by dream, its so good, this shit hot boy 😍
yo paris, who was in there
are u capping
We The Sus Music
You should do a prompt that's something like good songs with terrible lyrics
Move Along > Gives You Hell, Dirty Little Secret, or literally any of their songs.
YEEEEESSSSS
Swing swing I like
Really liked this format, would love to see more of Good Hooks on Bad Songs
olivia “elton” john is just plain disrespectful 😭
I remember some stuffy 80s British music critic whining(THICK accent:" We built this city on rock and roll? Wot? That's no reasonable foundation for ANYTHING. It's absurd Nonsense, it is- It's hardly Rock- n- roll, this rubbish yeah? Oh, come ON!" It was hilarious to me as a kid , like , yeah! This DOES suck!( Pre internet, most everything was promotional, not critical - you don't know how good you have it- yes I'm old, but Brad's hilarious, and my boyfriend is so jealous because he's convinced I'm watching Pete Davidson reviewing music lol)
Lock It Up being here is ridiculous lmao, yeah Paak steals the show but Em is solid as hell here too
The entirety of Mary On A Cross is a banger.
so real 💪
Man Weezer really saw the reception to the bill and Ted cut of BOTE and said let's ruin the song
Favourite lyric of the 2000s is “pornography poster” from Low, wish I was kidding lmao
you see, jefferson airplane flew too close to the sun in their jefferson starship
I'm really sick right now, and this is making it bearable.
Okay why did no one bring up that Supertramp was the people who originally made the chorus to that Gym Class Heroes song? That song is amazing
SUPERTRAMP is awesome. That's the part you guys like from Cupid's Chokehold. It's taken from Breakfast in America, they need more hype.
I'm so glad I'm not the only person who doesn't get why everyone hypes Sweater Weather to hell and back it literally just sounds like indie rock
I don't get indie rock in general. Like 1/1000 indie rock songs is worth actually listening to.
14:30 I used to think the lyrics for ccr's down on the corner was "down on the corner out in the street, willy and the poor boys are playing, bringing n words happy feet".
How do a person speeds up a song and says "ok it's better than the original", I haven't heard 1 that's even acceptable
Watching Brad’s music stream vids sounds like We Cry Together censored
Brad’s redemption arc for XO Tour Llif3 is wonderful
i think the ''somebody's watching me'' by rockwell is a good example, the verses are this confused person that tells his life story and how he thinks hes being watched, for me theyre just a bit of a letdown in comparisson to the chorus
The chorus is better because it’s Michael Jackson
Oh no, Sweather Weather was my #1 song played in 2022 and i was surprised because i don't even like it that much, its just perfect to listen to in a bus ride and thats all.
its a vibe tbh
Sweather Weather is fantastic. Don't feel embarrassed about liking it. 🤷🏾♀️
Sweater Weather is one of the best songs that band has. "Daddy Issues" is way worse.
legitimately was surprised during the part about Blueberry Faygo to see no mention of the Blueberry Gay-go parody
(saying this phrase feels so weird but) as a newly made chumbawamba fan, tubthumping’s not even the first thing i think of when i hear them, it is a pretty ok song but their catalogue is chock full of bangers.
it's that one weird pop hit they had, Todd has an episode on them. They're like a radical anarchist collective
I'm so glad you came around on XO TOUR LIF3
Putting photograph on here is a crime that song is amazing all the way through dad rock and all
yaah the verses on xo tour llife are fantastic. dont know how anyone can say its bad. top 10 song of this generation imo
19:09 I wanted to mention I prominently remember this song being in a Sprint commercial that I watched as a kid and for embarrassing reasons that's all I associate it with
the music video for habits kinda sells it for me. the lyrics are horrible but i totally understand that state of mind
