Don't say early Athari as if they're gone. The real Atharis still exist even till this day! You will find sizeable Hanbali communities in modern-day Egypt, Sham (Greater Syria), Iraq and some you will find in Saudi Arabia specifically in Hejaz province where they do taqleed to Imam Ahmed (RA) in fiqh and are Muffawid Athari in creed. May Allah (SWT) expand their numbers and decrease the numbers of the innovators (pseudo-Salafis aka pseudo-Atharis), ameen.
