Good job saving the day Patricia! I'm 47 and as I get older I'm more vulnerable to motion sickness. It makes me worry about my future cruising plans but I'm not going to let it stop me from trying it out. You're a tough guy Ed... I've heard a few people mention that the motion sickness patches placed behind your ears work well. Maybe give them a shot?
Patricia is saying thanks here. 🤩. Will Definitely try them out by this happens from time to time ! Honestly I believe it is a combination of factors that contributes to sea sickness!!! Best Ed
Hi Ed . Sea sickness you can be fine for weeks or months at a time then bang its got you . Great that Patricia could take care of you and joy . And has you say team work is very important on a sailing vessel . Its great to see she is learning and improving . Have a great sailing season . I may be down there with Reality in late June so will be looking to follow the anchorages you choose . Take care my Friend .
Thanks Gary !!! I know ! it had been so long I was not seasick. Well part of the game right ? Anyhow, all good now and having fun already here in Ibiza. If you do t have my tracker let me know and I send your way that way you can have a precise location of all spots we anchored. I am here for whatever you need. Best Ed.
Thanks ! It was a tip from a fellow L46 owner. Very fortunate it fixed the issue ! The noise was very loud, Lagoon, the dealer or even the rigger had no clue on how to fix it.
@@SailingJoy Sometimes the fixes come from unexpected areas... Just glad you all got that fixed would have driven my wife and me nuts lol can only imagine..

Sim estamos bem ! A situação não Foi brincadeira não. Ficamos muito abalados em ver esse Megayacht desaparecer um 30 minutos bem na nossa frente. Grande abraço.
Interesting - skyscrapers like the Burj Khalifa avoid harmonic vibration by having the building present an uneven surface at any wind angle. That's why the Burj Khalifa has its stepped appearance. I wonder if the maker of those rigging covers could deform the plastic in such a way that they would still be attractive but have an uneven surface presented to the wind so as to avoid the harmonics.
Hi Ed & Patricia, we’ve had our L46 for around 2 months and the vibration noise through the shrouds has been driving us crazy. We get it at anything from, around 10 knots of wind. We’ve had the dealer involved from the start as we had 30 knots the first night of ownership and ended up sleeping in the forward guest room to try and get away from the noise, but they haven’t come up with a solution yet ! So great to see that you have found a solution though - this will be such a relief if it works for us too. I know there is a delay with publishing video so interested to know if you’ve found that this has continued to work in different conditions ?
Hi Justin! Yes we tested on winds up to 40 knots and no more noise ! It worked. Make sure that the line is tight enough so that black tube does not move or vibrate. If you need I can send you some more pics and guide you thru it ! Problem solved and trust me no one could come up with a solution Lagoon, dealer or riggers ! Crossing our finger here that will work for you guys as well. Best Ed and Patricia
@@SailingJoy hi Ed, that's an awesome solution. Will try that too. Any recommendations regarding length, diameter and type of the rope? Thanks a lot. Patrick and Petra
@@patrickschellscheidt4930 Hi Patrick and Petra! I have used the same cable that is used on the original main halyard. I had a spare here so I used it and it worked. Best Ed
Hi Tony. Just checked on my harness and could not find a part number but if you go to decathlon or order online it is the one level above the simpler model they gave for climbing. It works great and cost about 40 Euros. Best Ed
Oi Rodrigo. Estávamos com um barulho de vibração muito forte dentro do barco. Essa foi a forma que achei para eliminar o ruído. O cabo preto serve para eliminar a vibração que existia entre o cabo de aço e o plástico de proteção que causava o barulho.
Oh yes. It happens sometimes to me specially if I have a combination of a certain type of ocean wave, empty stomach, lack of sleep, smell of diesel and been a little nervous ! Yes I followed my own perfect recent for sea sickness!! Hahaha. All will be good, no worries. Best Ed
That must of been a scary time when the boat was burning. Patricia is a real keeper and she did great sailing to Ibiza. Hope you get your sea legs back quickly. love your videos. So is that a permanent fix for your boat or just temporary?
Thanks Boomer ! Agree ! Yes she is the best ! Love her! Sea legs were found around no worries 😉! The stay solution is permanent as long as We don’t hear that roaring noise again. It worked! 💪
I've never been within a hundred miles of a sailboat, so take this with a grain of saltwater. I think the rope will hold moister on the stainless-steel for an extended period of time. Like a wick. It's a clever fix, but just a heads up to keep an eye on it.
Thanks for the heads up. No expert here on rigging just trying to find a solution. Will definitely stay clear of the stainless steel as what you said makes so Much sense. Best Ed
The boat that caught fire is a Sanlorenzo motor yacht and going to be not very old. I think the 1st one of the range was launched maybe less the 2 years ago.
Someday, if you decide to sell the boat, maybe you’ll open to subscribers before listing to the general public. You two designed this one perfectly. I’m saving $ just in case ; )
Hi Dely! Thank you so much. Will certainly let you know first hand when is time for JOY to sail new ocean ! I hanks for been here with us ! Best Ed and Patricia.
That sucks. I was just watching a video about the dangers of lithium-ion batteries. If everything isn't going just right they get overheated and explode and catch fire.
You are right and in this case the battery charger caused the battery to explode. Very dangerous and how to even know if there is an issue before it happens. This boat was professionally maintained by a competent crew and was not free of a disaster.
Great you're ok but how much environmental damage was caused in the water with fuel and oil, and hydraulic fluids hopefully they could contain most of it !
For those that aren't familiar, there are a number of different lithium battery chemistries and each chemistry profile has different flammability characteristics. Over the years lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) has proven to be a safe chemistry and I wouldn't hesitate to use it. These days it's actually hard to find anything other than LiFePO4 because of this. They are heavier than some other chemistries but still way better than lead acid or AGM.
Very good Carson ! We will change to lithium when time comes. For the vessel in question on the video o e of their Lithium batteries exploded due to a charging malfunction. Very unfortunate.

Quite a fire. Would like to have heard more about how it started and what lessons were learned.
It was a faulty battery charger that made the battery explode.

...or just tie it off on the plastic covered parts?
... maybe a rolling or a timber-hitch will hold it taught. It's just three or more clove hitches in a row

Whenever winter comes? Or When winter comes. : )
You tell me ! 😀
Any idea what sort of battery? Lithium?
I do not unfortunately! Only got the information that it was a malfunction of the battery charger that made one Lithium battery to explode.
Li + H2O = KABOOM!!! Wrapping a rope around in a spiral like that is what car manufacturers do with the antennas to cut down on wind noise.
Wow I did not know about the antena. It really worked for us. We can now have very silent nights around here 🥳👏😀
Oh, Babs, whatever are we going to do?!?
