  • Today we go to the extremes and bring you along a rollercoaster ride ending to when sailing is not fun! Sardinia showed its beauty and also its brutal side! After visiting what we tought was the most beautiful places we have ever seen in our lives, like cala luna and cala goloritise, it was now time to face a real bad thunderstorm aboard JOY.

    🤩GET TO KNOW US BETTER?
We are Patricia and Ed. We have been living on a 46 feet Catamaran and exploring the world on the water! We have always loved to travel and explore new places around the world.
Our first extended trip was a road trip in the US were we got to see over 20 states and ride 30.000 kilometers on our ECO Friendly Van. It was simply awesome and raised our awareness to the fact that we did not have to be tight down to a land home to continue to work and travel. Now, we’re on a sailing exploration journey attempting to circumnavigate the world aboard JOY. Patricia did not have any previous sailing experience, but was willing to learn on the fly.
Now neither of us are too technical and know how to fix things too much, super rich or retired, but we always had big dreams. What motivates us is the possibility to explore and learn along the way, share our experiences here on RUclips, be helped and help others along this Journey.
We want to continue to uncover the meaning of Happiness, Joy and Kindness along the way and hopefully bring something to you that will also make you think of alternative possibilities in life. We hope you enjoy been part of this journey along side us !

Hi. Couple of questions: 1. What do you do/Where do you stay during the off season? 2. You seem to be a “real sailor “ . How do you like sailing/live aboard a Lagoon. There is so much talk about how I NEED to buy a performance cruiser like Balance, Outremer or Seawind if I am going to do a circumnavigation. What is your perspective? Many thanks for your help. D

Hi David ! What an honor to get a message from you. We have watched your channel and enjoyed the hard work on boat comparisons videos you have been making. (Also great wine)
1.) During the winter we select a Marina that we like to stop JOY. Usually near an airport and near a city. (Not always possible)
During the winter we take the chance to explore by land extensively.
2.) We had a Lagoon 42 first and after crossing the Atlantic I decided to sell since we believed a bit larger vessel would suit our needs better to
Leave aboard Also was still working at the time and could not be on the boat as much as I wanted. The L46 hit a sweet spot for us in terms of volume and space, safety and resell value. I always say, there is not a perfect boat so pick the one that have 80% of what you like and learn to leave with the other 20%.
In my humble opinion you do NOT need a performance cat to go around the world even tought you will find many positives like the speed and safety to run away from a storm. The other hand, the negatives are simply overwhelming to us, like price and internal space. Also you have to keep in mind that a performance cat does not take well extra weight and if overloaded will perform exactly like a production cat.
We believe that going around the world needs to be a very enjoyable and slow experience. We are in no rush even if it meant taking 40% more time during a crossing. There is not a one size fits all when it comes to boating so I can only speak for myself and the boat we chose really made a lot of sense for us in this stage of our life’s (Patricia first real experience leaving aboard/ and that needed to be as comfortable and good so this journey could last for a long time) 😀! Send me a message on IG or email and I would be more than happy to continue the conversation or help in any other way I can. Best Ed

This dingy 'ritual' sounds and looks like something from groundhog day 🙂
You did a good job in letting all your chain out to keep the anchor flat and dug in. There is a mariners rule 'when in doubt let more out', it always works.

Storm looked terrible, glad you both made it through it ok. I'm always amazed in the clarity of the water. In my life I have never seen first hand such clear water. great footage and drone work Ed and music was spot on. Felt terrible for Patricia when she sounded scared of the storm, not a big fan of storms myself.

Guessing this was the big storm that beached a bunch of sailboats last summer. That whole part of the coast (Ogliastra) is really beautiful. Unless you've been here it is hard to explain why I chose to retire here. And where you anchored Poetto, the mountain in the background is sella del'diavolo - devils saddle.
