Thanks for sharing this piece of history. In May 1986, I was 9 years old. I remember being fascinated by Ceefax when I was a kid. I could spend hours reading through it and accessing the sport, weather, news, TV schedules etc.. We had a standard TV, so I would sit in my mate's house fiddling around with the remote. Those were the days.

Ceefax was a pleasant way to unwind. Don't forget the jokes page with the 'Reveal' button.

At the time BBC1 would transmit nothing other than pages from the teletext information service Ceefax accompanied by music for much of the day on the grounds of cost.

Indeed so too-you are so right there really of course! At the time so too, as well as the in vision times with music, you could of course see it on your own tv set if it was adapted to do so. I know we here at the time did so too, and I remember too calling up the numbers on the buttons of the tv remote control indeed so too. Thank you!

Its quite outrageous really thinking about it that ceefax would take up 3-4hours of the daily schedule on the flagship channel. We just sort of accepted it. Innocent times

It's better than endless repeats of House In The Country.

Music from Rio Dancanro is heard at the resumption of Ceefax In-Vision at 10:50/15.

This was to be the last term of daytime Pages from Ceefax being shown on BBC 1. In the autumn of that year a full daytime programme schedule was launched, pushing Ceefax broadcasts back to the early slot at 6am.

Yes of course that was right then indeed so too. Pages from Ceefax were really shown on both BBC1 and BBC2 from May 1983 to October 1986 when daytime tv as such started so too. However indeed BBC1 did still show a 6am slot; whilst BBC2 did go on at times showing Ceefax when they were not showing Daytime on Two at the time so too, although it was not as long as it had been before. Gradually they too started earlier and by June 1989 it was 10am and not later. The Radio Times listed these Ceefax showings until April 1990 but after that they did not do so any more then. Thank you!

That’s right Bruce, indeed I believe the final daytime Ceefax broadcast was on St George’s Day 1990, little did we know it at the time.

@@ceefaxbbctv8788 You could well be right there of course so then too I wonder? I also read in the Test Card Circle magazine though that the Radio Times did carry on showing the Ceefax AM early slots on BBC1 until 1993, although after that they too did not do so. Also of course, when BBC2 showed Ceefax at night-time in the 2000s, they did not list it at all oddly.

Also, thank you for the reply too of course. Even after Ceefax alas ended in 2012, and BBC2 then showed trailers instead, the Radio Times did not list these, whereas I know some of the other listings guides did then show it as This Is BBC Two instead. All very odd indeed too I wonder?

People who always say / think that TV was better in the past, don't remember this BS that went out on air!

In what sense is today's daytime TV better than this?
