    In our language an executor is a person who executes, carries out, or performs some duty, job, assignment, artistic work, etc. In law it is a person named in a decedent's will to carry out the provisions of that will. So it sounds like the Executors are agents for some foreign power. If you picked Cullen to handle, or rather not handle, the chalk markings, then you get a report stating that three Inquisition outposts have been abandoned without signs of a struggle. The Executors claim each Inquisition member at these outposts gave themselves over willingly to the higher purpose of the ones the Executors serve. This means a few things...
    1. The Executors consist of various races. Why else would they take Inquisition scouts unless they were going to employ them? These scouts would consist of various races, though probably not kossith. Still, the Executors might employ other kossith we don't know about.
    2. They either have a very convincing proposition for these scouts, or else they know how to manipulate the mind, such as through blood magic. I find it difficult to believe that scouts from all walks of life in Ferelden and Orlais would just abandon their posts like that. They must have either been convinced that those across the sea are more worthy of their time, or else they were mind controlled. If it's the former, then I suspect the Executors already had/have people inside the Inquisition who would convince their fellow scouts to join them across the sea.
    As for these powers across the sea, if the scouts were convinced to leave their homes and the battlefield behind, then I would think these foreign nations would have to be as wealthy and advanced as to be their own empire. We're talking a sprawling continent of luxurious and prosperous cities with tremendous military power to keep it all safe. A place that scouts wouldn't mind forsaking their homes and families for. Think Brits or Americans visiting a tribal village that has never seen anything even as mundane as a mirror, being impressed beyond words by it, and then being convinced to come to Britain or America where there are many more things even more mind-blowing that that. This might be what the Executors represent.
    Another possibility is that the powers across the sea are comprised of ancient spirits that have revealed secrets of the Fade, and thus their civilization is one that already makes the most of the Fade and the Real worlds. Thus, tearing down the Veil would just complicate things for them.
    Of course, there is a third option. The Executors are neither of these and they simply killed the Inquisition scouts and made up a story. Wouldn't be the first time BioWare has mislead us.
    One thing we do know is that the Executors are right when they say Corypheus threatened their lives as well. In the dark future we see that Corypheus has gone unopposed for a year. Which means, not even the Executors could defeat him.
    That's why I'm rather unimpressed with the Executors thus far. If they aren't even close to Cory's level of power, then why should Thedas be concerned about them? At present they are no more threatening than common spies. The Qunari also have spies infiltrating the various nations of Thedas. Not much difference really.
    The Executor that Solas petrified may have just been using some sort of magical rune or device to mask his or her voice. It would have been nice if Charter had investigated the Executor "statue" afterward.
    As for the symbol, a downward triangle with two wavy lines through it, this could indicate an island, or it could indicate a civilization beneath the waves. That would fit with the above theory on them being an advanced civilization.
    The only thing I worry about with the Executors plot is that BioWare will screw it up somehow. I've noticed BioWare introducing various new factions to the series, without explaining any of them in detail. It seems like BioWare is just creating ideas and not developing any of them.
    One last thing I want to bring up. If these Executors really are dangerous, as Solas claims, then I think we should be on the lookout for a secret Executor within our own party of characters in DA4. Every game has at least one betrayer. Though it's also possible that Solas is lying about the Executors because he doesn't want the Inquisition teaming up with them to stop his plans.

      @DarthShadie 4 года назад +1

      Hey there 😉 You think they recruit, similar to the Qun? I took it to mean, that the soldiers gave themselves to their cause, as though they gave their lives. They gave themselves willingly, so either recruited or accepted death. With enough torture one would give themselves up. Either way, it's ominous, that's for sure. But if they are recruiting, then they could be building an army. A secret faction, perhaps shown through magic a piece of the truth a truth important enough they would willingly join. If so, then the Executors know the truth about a lot of things and I want to learn what they know. 😅

    • @BelieveIt1051
      @BelieveIt1051 4 года назад +1

      @@DarthShadie Well if it isn't my favorite green girl, in a Jackdaw video. ;p
      You could be right that they just killed the Inquisition agents, but it seems like that would only provoke the Inquisition further. If the troops abandoned their posts it would make it less likely we would try to find them. As I wrote, the Executors might have just been lying. The fact there was no struggle suggests no fight. So they either went willingly or there was blood magic involved.
      I think they could be similar to the Qun, except not in a philosophical sense. I think BioWare would make them different in how they recruit people. The Qun indoctrinates through force and gas-lighting. I think the Executors might persuade through fact and undeniable truth. Like when Lucius relinquishes the Seeker book and it shakes Cassandra's faith. So either something like that, or like I wrote, bloodmagic.

      Someone mentioned the possibility of merfolk if these people originated from the sea. That means the possibility of a siren song.
      Not a single person left a message for Leliana or Cullen. There’s only four reasons that I can think of that this would happen. 1) Blood magic; 2) everyone was entranced at once; 3) everyone who would know how to leave such a message were actually Executioner infiltrators (unlikely); or 4) an infiltrator managed to drug the entire outpost in one go and they brought in a cleaning team to make it look like they left willingly. I can’t believe that they would leave the Inquisition without some form of message if they could, even if they were promised information that the Inquisition would need. That said, I saw someone put out the idea that the one who left a message in Skyhold during the Hard in Hightown chain might have been an Executioner, and if that’s the skill level that the Executioners have at their disposal, then it’s entirely possible that there are infiltrators everywhere.

    • @DarthShadie
      @DarthShadie 3 года назад

      @@coltonwilliams4153 I believe more to be the cause they presented was so convincing, the people gave themselves willingly to it, but that could also mean they gave their lives. I would love aquatic beings. It would be a nice variety. Perhaps their magic would allow them to have legs if merfolk. And Solas considers them a threat. Whether we be fighting Solas or something worse, having an Executor on the team could prove invaluable.

  • @Edhys
    @Edhys 4 года назад +2

    I agree that having the Executors be a new faction with their own story, completely unrelated to what we've known about so far, would be great. It would add another layer of depth to an already immersive, highly detailed world that we love, showing that what has been happening in Thedas is not the be-all-and-end-all. Just like the Ancient Romans existed alongside the Ancient Chinese, kind of aware of each other, but mostly focusing on what was much closer to home, having the Executors be independent yet aware in a similar vein would be cool.

    Their symbol kind of suggests something from below the ocean, not to mention they have clear ties to the ocean but don't appear to resemble any known race as of yet and they haven't revealed so either.
    Best theory I have: They could be DA's answer to mermen or mermaids.
    All major civilization are connected to sources of water which gives them clear access to land and a means of transitioning between areas somewhat unnoticed.
    As well as a way to keep tabs on most civilizations.
    Some DA4 concept even shows diving underwater and underwater exploration being worked into the game as well, implying we will be going below for some quests.
    The Executors could be this civilization's version of spies and if they originate from the ocean this would explain why no one has ever seen or mentioned them before.
    Them having agents all over could also fit this MO as well, given how DA is inspired by tropes first. Mermaids are very good at seduction and manipulation, important traits for a race operating in the shadows and needing to build a network of reliable agents on land.

      That is fantastical world and there is description that they "smell of sea and something beyond sea". As far as we know the sea can end in some point and there are only eldritch, cosmic monsters... or void with it's horrors. Also it can mean beyond sea like downwards not eastwards.
      I dunno. Seems like every fantasy fiction has it's version of Lovecraft's mithology and I hate that kind of fiction.

      @@Arekanae Nah, I think it's more likely mermaids.
      Shadow over Innnsmouth is the story you're thinking of I believe and it has very little in common with this depiction.
      No offense, but this has kind of been a fallacious trend in fiction analysis of late that anything related to the sea is Lovecraftian.
      Just to kind hammer this home, if the Executors were a Lovecraftian organization, they wouldn't operate in the shadows in this capacity and wouldn't really bother engaging in consultation with other shadow organizations. If they have any eldritch connections, then all of this behavior is pointless.
      The jump you're making is similar to suggesting that anything from the sea defaults to lovectaft. It doesn't and if it does, they have done a very poor job intimating that.

      I nowhere stated that everything related to the sea is lovecraftian or that executors operate in similar manner. I just said that i think it is nod to that (and so far just a nod) and that I do not really like lovecraftian inspirations. I also do not like that everything related to sea or having tentacles has to be lovecraftian so I see where You coming from. The thing I do not like is that thrope of undefeated, unuderstandeble, psychodelic beeings with unlimited power not the sea thing.
      I also do not like timetravel and parralell dimensions but that is not important now.
      I did not received Your post as hostile or anything (cus I noticed You were concerned about that I think). It is good to have speculative discussion in these dry times for gamers.

Since they seem to act through human agents could they be representative of some kind of "prethedosian human culture" that lives across the ocean? So... I don't think they are related to the elvhen. I think they are a new group. Maybe they are Kossith. What makes me think that is that Bull told the Kossith came from across the sea for complicated unclear reasons. They could be Kossith or they could be what drove the Kossith from their land. It was really strange Solas petrifying that agent like that. And we have to remember that Solas seemed to loathe them just as he loathes the Qunari (dogma), so in a way they threaten Thedas and Freedom in some way. Regarding the next DA theme being "helplessness", what would happen when a group almighty such as those see themselves facing complete loss of power? That also goes for Solas in wanting people free from the Qun of any other "agent of helplessness".
