Hi All, I wanted to post a correction. The lower cost MYU wasn't made of resin, but Aluminum with a matte black coating. It was called the Volex, and may be making an appearance on this channel soon 😃
The problem I’ve always had with the Elite/E95S is the lack of heft. This pen takes care of that. If Pilot re-released this with a medium or broad nib, I’d get 2 at least.
The beautiful, classic Myu. Lucky you! Very brave of you, sir, to take this classic apart. This has a cult following amongst the Reddit crowd. Thank you again for your wonderful videos
I fell in love with the MYU 701 the first time I saw a picture of its minimalist expression with that integrated nib. I got one for a good price, a fine point, from 1974. I only wish I could say I liked it better. I find myself tending to grip it overly hard, resulting in cramping and uncomfortable writing after too little time. But it is unquestionably the most aesthetically pleasing pen I own (and I have a LARGE collection of 500+ pens!), I guess I prefer my E95S to actually write with.
I'm sorry to hear that, luckily MYUs are pretty easy to find second hand (but are pretty pricy). Personally I prefer the writing experience with the MYU over the Falcon, which appears very similar to the T1.
Thanks for the suggestion! The resin model is often on eBay and it doesn’t have an integrated nib. I usually see it in white or black. The shape of the nib reminds me of the Falcon model
Here’s an example: www.ebay.com/itm/225613720017?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ba7eGDl3Q8a&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=SYhzcAmCRVS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I’d kill to own this beautiful pen.. I’ve a vintage elite, its counterparts from Platinum & Sailor, Parker 50 as well as a Pilot “Long-Short / Telescoping” model..
Sounds like a great collection already! I love the way the MYU looks, but personally prefer the writing experience of the Elite. It has a nicer nib and the resin grip is more comfortable for long term use.
Nice comparative review. I didn’t know about this pen until a few months ago when a seller of vintage pens I buy from every now and then had it. I quickly googled about it and bought immediately. I’m very satisfied with it in terms of appearance and writing. It’s only flaw is that the tip of the clip doesn’t fully touch the cap. But that doesn’t bothers me too much.
I love my E95S (technically the actual Elite rerelease, because I ordered it directly from Japan, but as far as I can tell the only difference is whether it has an "Elite" logo or an "E" logo) but had somehow never heard of the MYU. I tend to prefer more heft, so this definitely interests me.
I’m glad I could introduce you to this gem of a pen! It is a bit heavier than the E95S and vintage elites, and personally I prefer it aesthetically. However, as I mentioned around 09:00, I actually find myself preferring the writing experience of the Elite models over the MYU due to the softer grip and much nicer gold nibs.
@@ForTheLoveOfPens Yeah, I was reading some blog posts where people said it was very stiff, dry and not great to write with, and that it was still a pretty light pen (which I guess is inevitable with a sleek pocket pen).
Hi, I just got one question to the cap. It fits and holds at the front, but when I put it on the end of the Myu, it's just loose fitting there. What can that be? I'm also missing the metal ring. Does it have something to do with that? (To enlarge the pen that it fits better into the cap?)
I believe the metal ring is just there as a stopper for both capping and posting. I just tried removing the ring on mine to see what would happen. The cap is still snug against the body when posted. If I were to guess, you may have a broken/loose leaf spring in the cap. I would recommend getting a replacement ring to avoid damaging the nib when capping. You could probably find a washer at a hardware store with the same dimensions. Here’s what mine is measuring: Inner Diameter- 9mm Outer Diameter- 11.3mm (it’s ok to go larger on this dimension) Thickness - 1mm
@@rodjapavlik5730Thank you so much! If you look inside the cap, just below the plastic cap liner is a series of little bent metal strips. Those are the leaf springs.

Truly a gorgeous pen. I just learned about this pen today and now I'm obsessed.
It is stunning!

They produced the M90 for a short period of time in 2008. It was very expensive though.

Thank you!
This is the most beautiful pen I have ever seen.
I agree! An amazing design

I feel the same way with the Pilot Elite. Not nearly as pleasing to look at, but the nib is more fun and the grip material is softer in the hand.
Great video! Love it!
Thanks!
Someone bought my pen years ago. I have regretted doing what I did ever since.
I have since tried to find a Parker T1.

@@ForTheLoveOfPens the T1 is also very pricey.
@@paulmchugh1430 very much so, I usually see it for at least 2X the MYU
It came in Resin??? I have never seen one. Too bad you didn’t have a photo to drop in. I LOVE this pen! One of the first I ever bought.

Thank you and congratulations! With some work you could probably get the clip back in shape if you really want to. It is a beautiful pen.
Good video
Thanks!
This is my grail pen. 😍
It was my grail pen too for many years, I feel very lucky to have found it for a reasonable price.
I LOVE this Pen
