Should i but this retractable fountain pen or the platnuim curdias?
@@ThatGrayMonke I don’t have experience with the curidas. But I do recommend the Pilot Vanishing Point
@@ForTheLoveOfPens ok! Thanks!
Thank you for this video. At first the screw bolt separated from the piston. I had to get a tweezers to pull the screw out... it squeaked. Not oiled enough, I am guessing. This is my first use. I used Windsor Newton Black Indian Ink. Guessing that was not a good call. Is there an affordable waterproof ink you'd recommend?
@@PhoebeCanakis glad you found it useful! I’ve used some noodler document ink which is supposed to be pretty water resistant. You may find cleaning more challenging though if you use this type of ink. Pen flush can be a big help.
Thanks! Learning as I go.
I received mine today!!! It’s beautiful!
How does the nib of the 9019 (Fine) compare?
@@DrinkWater713 both are smooth, I find this one a bit wetter and more bouncy. Also the 9019 comes in a few size options whereas this only has one.
I have the matte translucent white model of this pen and have to say that I have not had problems with the nib. Both my Asvine pens have been pretty good riht out of the box and the nib on V126 is really nice and bouncy (P20 is decent too). I only wish they would do more nib choices on top of the standard EF/F sometimes M.
Nib preference is pretty subjective, for me these tend to write a little dry. Not overly so, but enough that I wanted to do some minor tuning. I'd like to see more nib sizes as well!
Just got a used Targa with steel nib - prettiest pen ever, and a great writer
@@johnnyjet3.1412 one of my favorite nib designs
I have the Goldspot Exclusive Nebulosa Laguna in a Leonardo pen, and it is a beautiful resin. I'm tempted by this pen but I have the Original Plus in Azureus Blue and the nib dries out really badly when the pen is not in constant use. I do know to open the end knob.
@@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 I’ve only had this for a few weeks, but haven’t noticed any dry out issues
How much and how to get these

I've got the M2 in caramel brown on its way. The finial graphic passed me by when I ordered it but, as a loud & proud cat dad, it is a much appreciate added bonus. I imagine, if it writes as well as most reviews suggest, the other colours will be making their way to me soon enough!
Great song of choice.!! 😊
@@fjschnitzer1 thanks!
Hey mate. I love your videos !
@@kartik980 thank you!
An ink window will be very useful.
Great video! I have the Original Plus in Azureus Blue and I like it better than this one, because I can see the ink slosh around. However, this does have beautiful colors. If I can offer some constructive criticism, I would get rid of your outros, as they're a bit boring to watch. The quality of your videos is great, though, and I really appreciate the disassembly of all pens and the pros and cons list. Very well done!
@@Joe29587 thank you, I appreciate your kind words and the constructive feedback! I try to keep my videos concise and informative, while still giving a sense of what it’s like to own the pen. Which section(s) do you find a bit boring?
@@ForTheLoveOfPens Just the closing "thank you" part, the rest is great!
@@Joe29587 I'll consider it, thanks!
I like the resin a lot. Nahvalur makes great pens. Some missteps but overall they are very consistent. Just an ink window would have been convenient. The Pineider is my best vacuum filler.
Me too, the resin is really nice in person! I’m impressed with Pineider’s filling system too, it shows a lot of innovation
@@ForTheLoveOfPens every part is friction fit, no glue. Very tight tolerances.
@@paulmchugh1430 it’s also the only piston rod I’ve been able to fully take apart
What a wonderful resin. I know it would disrupt the appearance, but wouldn't an ink window be useful? It's not critical but it would be nice.
@@paulmchugh1430 it is amazing in person! I agree, an ink window would be useful (especially on a vacuum filler).

My black forest carbon fiber came with 0 cartridges. If you received 20, you struck gold, lol.
@@markferguson3365 lol I was really surprised!
I have the 1860 Max. It has a #6 black nib. Why this has a #5 nib is unclear. My nib was very scratchy. I think it was made more than 2 years ago when their nibs were not as smooth as they are now. I am guessing it can be smoothed with micromess.
There is a huge variety of Hongdian Black Forest pens! I recommend checking the tine alignment before polishing the tipping material.
this is a different pen
@@ForTheLoveOfPens I adjusted the tines and also smoothed the nib. Nothing made it better. I ended swapping nibs with another Hong Dian nib and works like a charm.
Thanks, this was helpful. I recently bought what was sold as a new Lamy 2000 from a highly rated Ebay dealer, but your shot of the interior of your new cap confirms what I suspected, that mine is a used pen. My flat cap springs have some polished wear and I see a few spots of ink. I initially thought maybe mine was inked once, but it's definitely more tarnished than yours. Probably mine is older than I initially thought.
@@FranceOM1 glad you found it useful! I know Lamy does test each nib with ink, so it’s possible you’ll see a drop or 2 in the cap. But there shouldn’t be wear on the springs
@@ForTheLoveOfPens Thanks for the response! The Reddit Foutainpen community convinced me that mine is new even with a bit of discoloration on the flat metal prongs, which could come just from sitting for some months? Yours looks like it just came out of the factory. Maybe mine sat around in warehouses for a good while.
If they make the Custom 743 into piston filler it will go toe to toe with Custom 823. 😂 Custom 743 should ditch the cheapo Con 70. 😂 Pilot should make a piston filler 743...
@@fjschnitzer1 I’d love to see that too, and maybe an 845 piston filler. That could compete well against the Pelikan M1000
Put my sharpie back 😂
@@daniellehardy-goodsitt2689 never!
@@ForTheLoveOfPens well I want credit in your video then 😜
I've always been amazed that they can get so many carrots into that tiny little nib.
This pen was a disappointment for the reasons you mentioned, plus I’ve had horrible drying out issues. If not used every day, it will dry out. And I think the reason for this is ink crusting up on the silicone seal, not allowing it to close completely. Huge flaw. I’d be interested to hear if you had the same issue.
Unfortunately I continue to have issues with this pen. I haven't had the dry-out issue that you mentioned, but when trying to check my ink level the nose cone tends to come apart while the base is still attached to the body. I appreciate that ensso tried something new with this model, but I think it needs more R&D.
How does the oxblood behave in the pc832? have you had any problems?
@@ragesipikm5169 it performed great! No complaints
I have 2 black Lamy 2000 pens. One has an F nib and the other has an OM nib. Both write very nicely, OM very buttery and with variable thickness of the curved lines, while the F nib gives a firmer response to contact with the paper and leaves a thinner patina of ink. Because they are of the same color, I don't know which one I take out of the case first, but I write with great pleasure, then I take out the other one and continue my work. I like the writing differences between the two pens so much that I take a white sheet of paper and write all kinds of nonsense just for the pleasure of seeing the two differences. If you ask me, I can't choose between the two... I also have a Lamy rollbar that competes with them, but this is usually for everyday use where I can afford to be more careless with things.
@@user-cm3fl2ep4u glad you like them! I have tried several different Lamy 2000 Nibs ranging from EF to B, including the OM. Each do have a unique character, though finding the ideal writing angle can take some time.
Do you know where I can purchase a vintage black 45? I have the original Parker Box No. 113 and I’m trying to find the 45 pen that went with it. Your information would be appreciated.
@@winkieblink7625 I tend to search for them on eBay
@@ForTheLoveOfPens I just found the pen is a Parker 45 convertible. Now to do my research. Thank you.
Please note, while I have not witnessed any damage with this cleaning technique, some have reported piston rod threads breaking when unscrewing the knob in this manner. If you are going to attempt to remove the piston rod, do so at your own risk, and do so sparingly.
Hello. Thanks for the video. I would like to note that Lamy does not reccommend you disassemble the piston mechanism, …ever. I say this because, following a relevant video from Goulet, I did the latter in one of my Lamy 2000, and after doing so a few times, I permanently damaged the threads of the piston. I have been - actually - told, that the sounds you hear when unscrewing the piston mechanism are the sounds of those threads being chewed. Luckily, I managed to find another new piston, and replaced my damaged one. I hope this helps.
@@7_v610 I’m sorry to hear this! I’ve disassembled mine about a dozen times without noticing any damage. But I made a pinned comment that this should be done sparingly as there is a risk
If you do the first fill onlyhalf way, then you can draw the ink from the feed and section into the barrel, instead of it being forced outwards. Makes things a bit less messy.
@@phillewis3108 good tip, thanks!
Can I use razor blade like from Gillette? I don't have shims or feeleer gauge.
@@vsovereign3 in theory I would say yes, but I haven’t personally tried. Brass shims are going to be the safest to use on nibs
Love the size of this for a travel sketch pen! I wonder if this would make a good eye dropper filler?
@@davidbales8053 perhaps in a plastic or stainless steel version. But you won’t be able to see your ink level easily.
My favourite pocket pen. My brass Liliput goes with me everywhere, I use it every day. I got a fine Kaweco Premium nib for it which writes very nicely, I think Kawecos are perhaps the best cheap nibs around. I find the "how many turns to uncap" question faintly bemusing. Its clearly important to some people but it's not something that even occurred to me until I started watching fountain pen videos on RUclips.
@@-yeme- glad you love it! This does make for a great EDC for quick notes. Early on I didn’t think much about the number of turns to uncap. But as my collection grew, I found caps that screw off in more than 2 turns stood out. Not a big deal (some may actually prefer it for security) but a distinguishing feature.
From the heart of my bottom, I thank as does my TWSBI too. 😁
@@chrisworthington1027 🤣thank you
With the new converter Kaweco put out, I might actually get this one...
Have they released one smaller than the one for the Sport?
@@ForTheLoveOfPens Stilo and Stile has one that has the same capacity but with a foldable rod, it's actually pretty cool.
@@paulll47 Thanks for the heads-up, I haven't seen one in person, but that is pretty creative!
Somehow my liliput (black) I bought here in India came with a brass clip at no additional cost. But it’s a little too thin for me in comparison with the other 3 (which I also have).. Which watch ⌚️ are you reviewing next ?😉
Sounds like a good deal! No watch reviews on the horizon at the moment 😊
Nice looking pen. Nice weight. It is just too thin for me. I can see it being used for taking short notes but as a daily writer, not so much. If i was to buy a Kaweco it would be something on the size of a Dia2.
I agree, for me its a great pen to through into a bag or pocket. Not something I would use for long form writing, but something to reach for a quick note.
Hi, I just purchased the Vanishing Point from Japan. Unfortunately I'm pretty noob, but with the stock ink cartridge (black), I'm getting A LOT of skipping with barely any ink coming out on any upward strokes. Do you have any tips or know what might be wrong?
@@vex123 I’m sorry you’re having trouble. It could be a matter of the pen needing more time for the ink to saturate the feed. I also have a nib tuning video that can help troubleshoot. However I don’t recommend trying to start off modifying nibs with this pen as it’s easy to make mistakes and could be costly. If the problem continues, I’d recommend reaching out to the seller. ruclips.net/video/quXXWnoywvM/видео.html
Doctor's view: that blood needle is very painful with that huge needls😅
The red ink stains makes it look all the more gory 😂
@@ForTheLoveOfPens so true😂♥️
I own the Japanese Market Capless (VP) Special Alloy, but tried a fine nib Decimo in mica grey. I personally loved the fine nib, the lightness, and the better proportioned looks of the Decimo, but the pen was a little thin for my tastes. I found myself grabbing onto the pen more aggressively, so my fingers kept sliding down the barrel, and the lack of strong clip indentation made my fingers press into the clip more than the full sized VP. I may try a Medium nib Decimo one in the future, but I’d like to give myself more time writing with my VP, and see if I would like to get a gold fine nib model in the instead. While I do find the VP to be pretty heavy, I can let the weight of the pen do all the work, unlike my Custom Heritage 92, which forces me to apply pressure to get even lines. It’s why I prefer the #5 soft nibs more.
@@chi-towncalifornia5916 I find I have the same issue with the grip on the Decimo. Someone commented it would be nice if Pilot just made an aluminum version of the VP. I tend to agree.
FYI, a rag soaked w/ acetone will remove all of the markings from the exterior surface of a Varsity pen barrel, turning it into a clear “demonstrator”. It takes a bit of rubbing, but it’s less than a 5-minute project.
@@karlstrand3328 that’s a cool tip, thanks!
