That is one of the many reasons I love the guy. He is open minded and extremely respectful but he doesn't just accept everything without questioning certain aspects.
First read of the book was when I was a junior in high school back in 1986. Everyone in my English class received a copy to read. What a class assignment. Thanks Merced High School.

I agree that the amityville horror is fake.
Father Malachi had mentioned being shoved from his library ladder by a pursuing demon. This was some time before his death. As for his death, it's up in the air pushed or fell, stairs or ladder again. He didn't die right away.
I must, agree with you. Malachi was a man who truly enjoyed the limelight & a LOT of IT‼😂 Art was enthralled by Malachi & expected us to fall for it, too. Art was sincere, God bless him.

That’s terrible ,Lutz used the tragedy of that poor family’s murder to make money ! There’s a special kind of Hell for people like him!
George might have lied but the Lutz kids are now grown and pretty much
testify what happened in the book did happen in the house and they are convinced
George activated it as he was involved in occult activities like trying to move objects
with his mind and practicing Yoga. Beyond this George had a violent temper and beat
on the boys a great deal. People who knew George said he was a jerk in high school
and was much worse when he left the Marines. His temper would flair up over the smallest
things and he was always obsessed with "knuckheads" or people who couldn't see things his way.
Did the house draw George like Boleskine drew Crowley?...I think so.
I met a guy from Amityville about 18 years ago. I couldn’t help but ask him about the Amityville case. He emphatically told me it was a hoax!! He said that everyone who still lived in the area from that time absolutely hated the Lutz family for what they did to that community. He considered the Lutz family to be almost as bad as Ronald Defao. He said both of their motives were greed.
The most logical is the simplest answer. I’ve seen some more documentaries this past year that has changed my mind.

My sister back in 78-79 read the book then i read it. She was 13, i was 10. We talked about and we both agreed that we couldnt really say/know if it was true. Myself being young believed it. But her argument makes sense to me now. If the events as laid outbin the book had happened, NOBODY would have stayed in that house. Especially considering there were 3 children with you. I agree.

What ever happened to the "dr david anderson" or something like that.. it was about "time dilation" and frame dragging trying to predict the location of a satellite.. then dude goes on to explain how he could speed up and slow time in a 1 foot wide box for organ delivery etc. Can't find it anywhere.

I don't know, something about this Martin guy doesn't track with me.
He says he's there the night of murder then later says he and his 10 year old daughter take paint chip samples from the basement.
Was that the same night, am I supposed to believe the police let a news reporter take his ten years old into an active crime scene?
He says all the stuff from the book was either fingerprint power or chemicals poured into the toilet but he was only there after the murders were committed, how could he know what was going on the whole time in that house?
Also, the same 10 year daughter calls his radio station to tell him his wife died? Not the police, not emergency services, they let his ten year old tell him?
He says the haunting was a hoax but then goes on to list a number of mysterious deaths related to it?
So is the house haunted or not?
Finally, he keeps talking about "transcript" of his interview with Weber, well it would have been nice if the radio broadcasting reporter had any audio of this interview where Weber claims to have made it all up.
Oh but I forget, this is the same guy that thinks anecdotal stories are just as good as scientific evidence.
And Bill Birnes is one of the biggest tin foil hat conspiracy theorists I've seen in recent history.
Entertaining episode but I don't believe these guests for a second.
Well listening to this guy saying it was a hoax but I watched both children on prime they both put out a mini documentary of their experience and how traumatic it was for them. I believe they experienced something paranormal but differently from Hollywood portrayed in movie such as door blowing off and stuff oozing out of walls. After all hoax or not they literally took nothing with them when they left not even clothes. Art bell is deeply missed he was the BEST!!!!!
This guy Joel Martin was a callin on the Lutz episode, and he is changing his tale here, and his claims of a hoax conflicts with what was told by lutz...

He actually used a 35 caliber marlin rifle. Very powerful, you can kill a grizzly with one. I can't believe the whole neighborhood didn't hear it. If you have ever shot a high powered rifle you know what I mean.

@@poppycock31185 Well a couple years ago in my town there was a murder and at trial it was brought up how was it that a 9mm was fired 9 times and no one noticed. The neighbor was on the stand and just said, "everyone in the neighborhood knew that family was violent and crazy so just learned to ignore anything happening there." Could this have been the case for DeFoes? Could be.

He begins the show with same trouble trouble I see terrible trouble on the horizon as if though he were looking into a crystal ball just mere hours later he was found of us supposed drug overdose of which medication he had been taken for over 30 years was very familiar with it and would not have had an accidental overdose

The whole thing was a hoax? Wow, imagine that. (Add it to the list consisting of Mel's hole, Cydonia, and the 'voices from hell.') Don't get me wrong, I loved listening to Bell, but it was a source of entertainment and nothing more.
Mel's hole was the dumbest thing ever.
I think most people would agree and even if the possibility of any of these types of things being true is so small that it's absurd it still keeps life interesting just knowing that nobody as of yet has been able to absolutely prove otherwise.

One of the guys affiliated ("a friend of mine" or associate) with them lived right down the road from my parents house on Bean Hill Road in West corners. I rode the bus with his older daughterd. They would have massive BBQ's and birthday parties for his daughter that he would invite all of the neighbors to.

The stupidity of the story isn't really lost on me. Think about it, Ronald DeFeo had William Webber as his lawyer, he gets with George Lutz and after a lot of wine come up with the Amityville Horror on a handshake deal. A HANDSHAKE DEAL?? This guy must have been an ambulance chaser because Butch was wanting him to get him off on insanity and Webber, being a lawyer, didn't even get it on a legal contract? Is this guy competent or what? I wouldn't trust this guy. Of course that's not taking that it pretty much all was a fake story. Butch killed his family, it's a basic true crime story and that's about all there is.

They did know they were struggling with. debt and was planning to move. Their neighbors were friendly and never heard one thing while this was going on..their children were in the same schools going to the same sporting events, going to the house all the time and never knew anything until after they moved! You think they’d hear something, see something, one of the kids would say something to someone, but nothing. So you know nothing … I lived this joke for about a year. It’s been proven to be a hoax ten times over just do some research because you sound stupid. but you can still believe it and the tooth fairy and Santa Claus

I find it so hard to believe that the Warren's were part of some con. They always struck me as deeply spiritual and sincere people.

Like the guest said Ed was very skeptical. I can see Lorraine giving the benefit of the doubt based on being such a soft kind person and wanting to believe the story just in case it was real. Sorta a denial type of thing.
It's well known that Ed and her didn't always agree completely on each case. Also this is actually one of now dozens of programs that are very popular which have all sworn it's a major hoax. Each program doing proper vetting etc.
I'm not going to name them all but a good example is Joe Rogan's podcast that had guests saying 100% hoax.

Love the variety of Art's shows but I wish he didn't have open lines, he was just so mean, and so rushed with callers it was just an uncomfortable mess. The first parts of his shows are pretty solid though. But callers? Ugh, he couldn't handle it. Too mean a person.

I believed it was a hoax for many years. The people still calling it a hoax are asinine, arrogant, and have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. I know my word is not much, considering I’m just some guy on the internet. But I have seen irrefutable proof that this happened, as I am now close with people who were actually there and worked on the case with the family. That is all I can say. If you still think it was a hoax, you’re free to believe what you like. But you’re wrong. Very wrong. And I know that now.
I think what part of it is is that people have lived there since the "haunting" and nothing has happened according to them.
