Not one of the biggest hits off this album, but one of my favorites. Thanks for the great reaction. Billy is a Long Island boy. Born in the Bronx, moved to LI when he was 1. He loves NY and they love him. He gives a lot back to the community.
If I'm not mistaken this is one of the first CD's ever released. He is great songwriter and very underrated vocalist. His music does sometimes lends tendency to be "theatrical". Yes, like in a movie (Good One). "My Life" is the theme song of an old TV Sitcom. That is just one of the many genres that he excels in. His vocal in "Innocent Man" is remarkable. He also treats great Rock n Roll. Have a great weekend Bruvs! L💞ve from Canada.🍻
Once again you are dead on. I grew up few blocks from him Lmaoooo he’s a legend from there. Most his songs are written from his perspective of the neighborhood.
You guys are right--I've had a couple of friends proudly share their connection with Joel. Great reaction. It's always fun when you guys discuss the music. You give this long time fan fresh perspective and appreciation. All the best!
He's a Long Island boy. I have a friend a few years older than me who saw him perform at a lot of local music spots in the early 70's. Then he was known as Billy Martin (after the former manager of the Yankees). To my knowledge he's always been supported locally and has done many performances to benefit local charities.
The Piano Man video from 1985 shows a picture at the end of him with the Bill Martin name since he used it in LA when he was working at the Executive Room and wrote Piano Man.
The jazz fusiony Gauntlet on 52nd Stree. I never liked the hits much, but Zanzibar, Stiletto, Rosalinda's Eyes, Half a Mile Away, Until the Night, and short title track are epic.
Weak link of this album...which tells you how strong the 52nd Street album is. This song would have been a hit for many artists. Our hosts have a good point, it does sound like a movie soundtrack song
Tom Hanks should send Billy routine checks. Perhaps, if not for Billy's My Life theme/intro, Bosom Buddies may have flunked in the pilot. JMO. You guys are so cool in accepting the notes as freely as intended. Music is its own language and Billy has his own lovely dialect! Good Friday to you good men!
Has anyone mentioned that 52nd Street was the home of NYC jazz, particularly from the 1930s-1950s? A song about city or city adjacent youth, hence having to hide the alcohol from the cops and having to lie when talking about girls.
A fun song that you move and groove to. Not a masterpiece though one with plenty of energy !You are exactly right as Billy was big locally in NYC and Long Island with hits early before he got screwed by the first managers and record company so he left to hide out in L.A. for a year or so and then came back to take the country by storm!
Keep working this album. Next album up will hopefully be ‘Turnstiles’. After 52nd Street he became increasingly pop, and somewhat empty. A couple of great tracks on each album, but the bulk were rather forgettable, despite his great talent.
Funny the ones he has now have been with him for years did he get nice all of a sudden ? if i was treated as bad as you say i would not last more then a Decade with Billy.
Please do "Rosalinda's Eyes"... neither of you will be disappointed.
A nice one using his mother’s name in the title!
Big Shot is a must reaction from this album.
Such a great album. The Stranger is great too!
Man, I don’t think I’ve heard this since like 1980, but I still remembered the words.
Billy was *immensely* popular in the New York metro area during the '70s and '80s. His music seemed to be everywhere, all the time.

One of his great underrated album tracks
I try to keep up with all the reactions from you guys... Still the best reaction channel on RUclips, by far. Appreciate the efforts guys...

Mr. Joel's music speaks to the old& the young.
Reminds me of sitcom songs.
Me too.
that's how jazz and pop musicians made coin in the 80s and 90s. Writing and producing theme songs, movie scores, etc.
GREAT ALBUM LOVE IT
Once again you are dead on. I grew up few blocks from him Lmaoooo he’s a legend from there. Most his songs are written from his perspective of the neighborhood.
Classic Billy Joel.
He had a stretch where he was just fire.
Basically his whole career.
Another great album track of many many great album tracks from Billy Joel...a true legend.
Such an underrated tune! Thanks for doing this one... 👍👍👍👍👍
Billy has a great hit song "Downeaster Alexa" which is named after his daughter.
❤BILLY JOEL-52ND STREET❤
That’s my hometown dude. King of Long Island
The context of “Rosalinda’s Eyes” really gives an extra umpfff to this
52nd Street in Manhattan was known for all the jazz clubs in the early days - 30s,40s,50s.
That album is amazing. Dig into it!

Thanks my friend!! Always a pleasure to hear from you!!
Non esistono canzoni mediocri nel repertorio di Piano Man ... Talento totale 🎹👏
“Rosalinda’s Eyes” 🔥
Very nice thanks guys!
Interesting horn arrangement from Mr. Joel
Exactly very Earth wind and fire-ish
It sounds like this album is a story.
Billy’s song My Life, from this album, is the theme to the 80’s show, Bosom Buddies so …
Absolutely that's the one
and the song Big Man On Mulberry Street was the theme for the tv show Moonlighting with Bruce Willis it was on the Bridge Album.
@@markvanderstelt8999
I thought this was the theme song

Cool. I never noticed that. Thanks

Actually Martin is his middle name. William Martin Joel. But he was a big fan of Billy Martin.
@@jamishops I had always heard it was for Billy Martin, but that was probably just a plus to using Martin as his stage name.

billy went on to manage the oakland As too.😀
We loved this artist from Piano Man on…he evolved through every album…😎
Great hospital waiting room track 😊

I'm a huge jazz fusion fan and I understand what you are getting at
You could hear Earth Wind & Fire easily covering this song. Not saying that they have. It just gave me that feeling.
Yes! when billy says "YEAH"He definitely sounds like Maurice White @Airplay Beats and the Horns
@2:12 timestamp
Go figure Peter Cetera is singing background and that TV theme song feel is that Dave Grusin magic
Deep cut I haven’t heard a long time. Still a really
Good tune
I don't think I've ever heard it or at least don't remember it. He has so many and better than this.
Weak link of this album...which tells you how strong the 52nd Street album is. This song would have been a hit for many artists. Our hosts have a good point, it does sound like a movie soundtrack song
For sure
Tom Hanks should send Billy routine checks. Perhaps, if not for Billy's My Life theme/intro, Bosom Buddies may have flunked in the pilot.
JMO.

Good Friday to you good men!
👍
Great reaction! You could react to other Joel's songs such as "Leningrad", "Storm front" and "Goodnight Saigon".
Y’all need to check out “Angry Young Man”. If you can check out the live version!!!
We getting a lil Earth wind and fire in there 😁
I can’t wait til you guys get to 52nd street
Similar to your take: he had the song “Easy Money” in the Rodney Dangerfield movie of the same name. Same feel
Go Laa! Go Chee!
Did Billy call Chee at the very beginning? Thought he said Cherro?

Oyster Bay NY
A Montague song...lol that's right 😊
2:30 che is right it totally sound like the 80s😅
Listen to Steely Dan live 6-25-200 at Pine Knob Clarkston,Mi . Amazing!!!
2000, excuse me!
The Stranger was an awesome LP, but I always liked the edgier take on the music on 52nd St.
Some real Elton John Vibes on this one. Not a bad track at all.
Was Elton Ever Heavy on The Horns ? or a jazz sound ?
Weird choice from this album but still diggin it.
The album titled track is always the best though…
2000, excuse me!
That’s another of his 50s-sounding/influenced tracks. There’s a lot of them.
Try Zanzibar from the same album for something a little different.
Didn't they already react to Zanzibar? Great tune, btw.
I looked through everything they’ve reacted to on the channel, but didn’t see Zanzibar, or very much from the 52nd Street album at all.
@@hklinker they just did that song
Cool. Link me to it, cuz I can’t find it. Thanks

Even this album was too pop for me. Turnstiles was his top album.
I Love Glass Houses i do not care what you say Haha.
Sabbath ????????
The weakest track on the album. Still solid though!
Great artist, but he treated his band mates like crap. Watch the documentary HIRED GUNS.
Funny the ones he has now have been with him for years did he get nice all of a sudden ? if i was treated as bad as you say i would not last more then a Decade with Billy.
@markvanderstelt8999 Did you watch the documentary or are you just commenting to comment?
