Tanner Leatherstein is actually a leather craftsman, and he gives in-depth information about what bags are worth their price. He even educates you regarding leather types and manufacturing process, INCLUDING the pigment used on the leather - I learned from him that the pigment type makes a difference.
he literally takes about $2,000 of his own money, buys a “luxury” bag, cuts it apart down to it’s parts, and evaluates every part of the bag, including the brass\metal pieces AND the pigment\dye used on the leather. HE IS EXCELLENT.
I highly recommend ALL of his videos.
I haven't seen his videos in a while, I will definitely revisit his channel! Thanks for sharing!

I agree. He's awesome.
I just mentioned him!! He’s the reason why I now buy Strathberry.
Strathberry is amazing.
Before influencers, Aspinal was a common brand Londoners would buy if you worked in a job in finance or similar. The quality was always good and they look professional. They’re not aiming to be trendy but heritage, so it’s not everyone’s style.
It is definitely an acquired taste. I've heard quality is great but definitely not my cup of tea even tho I am also in the finance world 😆
L@@Somehowadulting
I have 5 Aspinal bags all bought on sale at 40-50% off. Excellent quality and great design.
Thanks for your input on these brands! One thing I will note is that I wish companies would stop calling PU/plastic “vegan leather.” There is actual vegan leather produced using cactus, apple peel, and other natural plant-based materials that will last and are of high quality. So before ruling out vegan leather, better to rule out the cheap PU plastic “leather” knowing that there is nothing vegan about it! Demellier Vancouver bags actually also come in Apple vegan leather option, just fyi. 😀
You are absolutely right! I really don't like PU leather. I'm ok with apple or cactus leather. I know Samara does that but as to how that would age. Not sure. Interesting how Demellier does apple leather, I do like how brands are getting more innovative
I'm definitely going to start to use the term "indie" brand. I feel you on many of them over-gifting these bags. Really good on you for further researching where these brands fall short, which will not be mentioned by the influencers. Great video!
We are consumers first so these are the questions I ask myself when deciding to purchase from a brand or not. I have no problems speaking my mind but I also give credit where credit is due. Thanks for stopping by!
Nothing "earth shattering" love the phrase! Cracked me up 😂❤❤❤
Great points you've made and thanks for doing all the research on the brands so we dont have to! ❤❤❤😅
hahaha Are any bags/purses ever earth shattering? Thanks for always commenting on my videos. I love the support 😄😄😄
@Somehowadulting just want to say genuinely love the content you put out and you are so relatable to me! 😊 keep up the great work! ❤️😍💖
@@annydu5361 haha yes, I'm glad I'm relatable. We aren't all wealthy enough to be buying luxury items without worrying about our bank accounts.
Agree with most except for Teddy Blake. Quality is really good and packaging is luxurious. Bought the Kim Stampatto model in 2020 and til now I have not gotten tired of using it. For the other brands I don't choose what the influencers promote i.e. DeMellier Vancouver and NY tote. Bought the small Tokyo instead. For Aspinal, Mayfair is the most common one, so I bought the Ella crossbody instead. 😊
I'm glad you love your bags! Yes, you definitely want to pick ones you love!
Nice video! Thank you for doing your research so others don’t have to :) Keep ‘em coming!
Thanks! I'll do my best!
kay, I’ve always scratched my head about the obsession around the *preluxz* book totes and their practicality, but this one is adorable!! Congratulations
I appreciate all the background information you shared while looking into each brand. And I think as consumers we should definitely be aware of where we are buying from and WHY? It’s so easy to be influenced by RUclipsrs or influencers. Tfs your thoughts 😊
Thanks! Like I said, I'm first a consumer just like you! We should question everything and make decision for ourselves. I'm an amoeba of a "influencer" but I try to share my thoughts to provoke your own thought process. But at the end of the day these are just bags 😆
Great video thanks so much!❤ I love brands that honestly evaluate their position, not brands that like to paint beyond their capabilities and position.
Right? Don't try to fool us, we are smarter than you think.
Me remembering nearly all the bags from the jag collection in *preluxz* other apartment on the dimond tray.. I think i watched that video like 40 times. Purse collection goals
I happened to stumble onto Pelletier butti in Florence and learned they make the teddy Blakes after I purchased a bag. When I googled Pelletier Butti back in the states was when I learned they make the teddy Blake. Mine doesn’t say teddy Blake it says Pelletier Butti. and it’s so nice. It is leather for sure
Private labeling is their business model I guess. I've heard a lot of negative things on teddy Blake but other rave about it...they just need to do better quality control.
I have 2 large Aspinal Lotties and I get more compliments on those than anything in my LV collection 🤣 Personally I don't care - I wear them for myself - but I found it funny. My Strathberry midi tote is so beautiful. It's burgundy so it's making its debut this fall. All 3 made in Spain. Enjoyed the video! The thing with online is it stinks if you order something and you don't like it. I wish they had more of those stores in the US so you can really see it up close.
Thanks for sharing! You're right, I wish they have them in stores here so I can at least check them out in person. I feel like stores here carry the same brands instead of introducing new brands to us. At least like a pop up or something.
@Somehowadulting yes! A pop up would be wonderful ✨️
Thank you! It was a fantastic video. I am so tired of videos where influencers say that everything it so fantastic and incredible quality, but the truth is that they are paid to say that.
Glad you enjoyed it! I will always be honest. I started this chanel because I wanted to talk about what no one else is talking about. ❤️
I love and appreciate these honest opinions! I agree, I don't like vegan leather and refuse to use it. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for letting me know! I can be ruthless and brutal sometimes 😏 actually..all time lol
Hi I'm looking to buy this bag, is this the actual colour of the Fleuron in Pacific Blue or is it darker in person?
Hi! I responded to your original question. Did you see?
Customer service Of Aspinal Of london Is very lacking. I ordered a Lottie. It arrived with missing dustbag and nobody would respond to my emails. Chat rep says i have to email. Well waiting for the Reply I noticed that there were residue of adhesive on the closure part at the front of the bag. The glazing on one area of the bag is also starting to come off and it was poorly done. I emailed them about it as well and I asked for a replacement. I ask for replacement because of the defect And the lacking dust bag. They finally responded and said they can send a replacement But I need to return the bag at my cost. I'm in the u s and i'm not paying shipping to e u for something that is not my fault. It was just horrible experience. I was looking forward to purchase more bags from them. But that first encounter is a no go.
Sorry you had to go thru that! That's sad to hear. Their website made it seems like they had great customer service. So much for their "warranty" Thank you for sharing so people are aware!
i don'tgo for these brands either except once I had the lottie small from Aspinal of London which is made very well...
I've heard mix reviews on Aspinal. Some people say they are exceptional while others say they're inferior quality. I've never seen one in person before though. Glad you enjoy yours!
Parisa Wang - genuine leather lining for its price ❣️
Good to know!
What a great video! I learned a lot
Thanks! Maybe I'll do more of tese kinds of videos?
Yes, please! I really appreciate your opinions because you're not swept up in the hype.
I just filmed one that I think you might find interesting. 😁
I bought the demillier and returned it as soon as I opened the box. The large tote seemed nice online but it was not as polished in person. It just looked frumpy
It's seems like a split opinion with demillier. Thanks for sharing!
Tanner Leatherstein did a review about the Oleada description of their leather. They just did not describe it in the best way. Is not rests of other people bags is the rests of cows that were killed for meat. They just made it very confusing in their site. Nothing wrong with the leather itself. About the other points you presented, I fully agree.
Their website super confusing. Sometimes, less is more. Don't make things complicated. And I just didn't appreciate their designs in general.
I love your emphasis on how being made in a specific place isn't enough to guarantee quality!! So much marketing is devoted to creating false narratives that being made in countries like Italy or the US is inherently good, and being made in countries like China is inherently bad (not even including the racism/xenophobia). If only life was ever that simple 🙄
Hi there! Thanks for your input! Yes another person commented that only three components of the bag need to be made in that country to say made in xzy country. I didn't know that or if that's the regulation internationally or specific country. Quality is quality. Doesn't matter where it's made.
I recently released a video specific on a made in Italy bag (little liffner) If you haven't checked it out, please do. It will show exactly what I'm talking about.
Hope to see you back soon!
That Fleuron design is so ripping Acne Studio’s Musubi.
Let's say inspired? 😂
Well, in EU by law, they have to offer 1 year against manufacturing/quality faults. Of course, you can predict a fight if they proactively inform a period inferior to this. Really speaks about their trust on their own brand.
I didn't know that about EU law, thanks for sharing! Yes, doesn't it? People automatically assume that you don't even have confidence in your own product.
Yes in Florence they called mine Ava but mine is exactly like the Kelly
For me it is important if a product is produced in the EU. The quality is not necessarily higher than that of products made in China, but the conditions for the workers are much better.
I understand why that is important to you! Very fair point ☝🏻
I got sucked in by an Atelier Auguste bag. It's just not up to my daily wear & tear standards.
Thanks for sharing! What was the wear and tear you've noticed?
I like my east west bags from Strathberry
Glad it works for you! Does the bar get in the way? Thats probably my biggest hesitation with strathberry bags
The bar doesn’t bother me at all. The chain strap is less comfortable than leather, so they are more special occasion bags. The mini is also really small. The regular size is more my speed.
YESSSS the belly button ring bag, my first impression. I cannot. Their straight hardware looks like a tongue ring. It literally makes me cringe...even as person who at one time had both types of body jewelry. I cannot now wear them on my handbags.
Omg yessss cow nose ring. I can't either. How does not everyone see that??? It's been super popular for whatever reason I do not understand.
I’m not sure I can take you seriously after you said Kate Middleton then proceeded to show a picture of Meghan Markle…..
Same same, I don't follow the royal/celebrities much.
Lol 😂
May I have your thought on Ameli Zurich?
I've looked at them briefly before. Their iconic laptop bag seems ok...based on the pictures the leather does not seem it would wear well you can see some crinkling on the model shots. And the price they're charging seems excessive.
@@SomehowadultingThank you so much!!!
If one has a question concerning bags, better to check a tanner not some random person
I am some random person 😀
My mulberry mini alexa was made in china. I have a mulberry small iris that's made in england
Apparently so, I just got two mulberry items and one said China and the other Vietnam. That leave the row and Chloe?
I think what they say is it sourced from the same altiers. Trust me I was disappointed when my alexa said made from china. And I had to dig through that bag to find the tag.
Honestly me too to a certain extent. I just filmed two videos that includes pieces made in Italy and in China. I think you might find interesting. Stay tuned!
Yeah oleadas website is super confusing which is why i wasn’t interested either
Omg. I was so confused; like what kind of message are you trying to convey???
I agree with you with everything except Strathberry. It’s gorgeous. I have that midi bag. I bought in Scotland. You’re wrong here. It’s a fantastic company and I love their bags. The entire royal family wears Strathberry. Megan started wearing it because Kate and Zara wore it first.
And I forgot to mention- stratherrry is HANDMADE in Spain and the famous cobble destructed that bag to say the quality is that of the luxury houses as it’s made in the same factory.
Hi! Yes I'm sure strathberry bags have amazing quality. I personally just don't prefer the designs especially the bar across. Hence I said if someone where to gift me I would say yes 😂 thanks for letting me know you love it!
Only 3 processes need to be done in one country for it to be considered ‘Made in’ said country.
Interesting I didn't know that! Good to know. Perhaps each country has their own regulations too.
Former LV SA told me this
How can you criticize a bag if you are only looking at it online or you take the opinion of someone else? That is not research honey. The designs of Teddy Baker are better than the design of that ugly yellow bag you have there.
Hi! Welcome! Watching other people's reviews and forming your own decision/opinion is call research. These are my opinions and you are welcome to disagree. This is the beauty of fashion, I may think one brand is ugly vs another. Same with you, if we all agree then what's the point of having fashion. The yellow bag may be not your cup of tea, but in my opinion it's very innovative, not the most functional but I can appreciate them trying to come up with something new. Alot of the teddy Blake's are just regular totes that look like dupes. But the end all be all that I wrote off Teddy Blake is their quality. Other YTers have shown the actual poor quality. Thanks for stopping by! Love your input!
Fully agree with you. I thought I was going to see the actual bags in here or something of that sort (maybe others peoples reviews and comparisons), but I also think the reasoning behind not purchasing these brands is a bit off. “One of their models is not cute” but I’m thinking they do have other styles, no?? Not liking ONE bag doesn’t make them entire brand bad. Or a bad website doesn’t indicate the quality of the products. Sorry but this video is weird. One thing is to express opinions and another is based those opinions on unfounded information.

What brands would you recommend instead that has a great quality?
Hi! For indie brands/mid-range? I would say Fleuron, APC, acte nation are good options. I've done videos on all those brands. Check them out! I would say Polene too but I have bags from when they first started but I've heard that there has been quality issues recently but I can't speak to that since I haven't bought from them recently. Senreve is great too!
With regard to the Oleada brand, it seems like some of the questions you have could be answered by reaching out to the brand and/or by reading the paragraphs you highlighted in full. It also seems like you’re confusing yourself by either not reading the relevant sections in full (or misunderstanding what you read) and/or making assumptions. For example, you mentioned that the brand only started in 2021 and questioned how many bags would realistically be sent to them but nowhere did they say that they are only relying on the bags sent in to them from customers for the resources to make new bags. In fact, it seems that they said the opposite.
Thanks for your input! I definitely may have confused myself...I know I'm not the smartest person out there but if I'm confused then I'm sure there are many people out there confused as well. Again, I do not mind they recycling parts/pieces from an old/used bag. But if I'm going to buy a bag and they do not disclose what parts were "used" I would not be happy with that. If the bag was categorized as "refurbished" for a discounted price. Then I'm all about that. Great discussion!
💖💖💖
Demiller is overrated, I bought a clutch before and found out their stitching is not that good, not as sophisticated as Coach, so I returned it
Thanks for sharing! Thats disappointing. Did you see my little liffner video? That was BADDD
I swear I did a review about this very thing. I was so disappointed about how uneven the the leather was stitched on a Santorini bag I purchased. The quality wasn’t bad, however, save for the way the straps were stitched on…
I have returned at least 6 DeMellier bags because of stitching issues. Very disappointing. I do have quite a few of their bags in my collection that are nicely made for the price.
They are gifting bags because that’s h😢they chose to spend their advertising budget. So that’s not a legitimate criticism. Not finding the designs appealing is legit, at least from your viewpoint. Guccis of the world don’t put the money not the bags themselves to justify the kind of prices they charge. Instead, the money is spent on brand image, advertising, overhead, etc. It is also clear many people need the boost they get from the expensive bag to prop up their opinion of themselves. A very multifaceted subject
Okay I don’t have the Teddy Blake but that brand is not promoted by the lux influencers. Actually non of the influencers who own true luxury promote Teddy Blake. I’ve known Teddy for the less known ones when you search for un expensive bags. Girls like Chase Amy or Steph from shopbagholic never promote Teddy Blake. They are jumping in the Demelier bandwagon which I was very close to get in my very first trip to Paris though went for Zadig.
But I think big lux influencers know we don’t easily fall for marketing anymore. We know when they are promoting sort of shady bags lol 😂
So no. I see no single lux girl promoting Teddy Blake
Absolutely, they have to filter thru the brands. I'm sure they get hit up all the time by different companies. They need to have integrity and conviction with what they talk about. They are also careful not to talk negatively about companies. I'm not afraid to speak my mind since this is not my source of income. These are all considerations when you're watching YTers.
I recently briefly saw Demellier in person at a store. It's not bad but doesn't intrigue me enough to want to spend money on it.
@@Somehowadulting so true, now there was a time when they weren’t that careful, that ugly SanReve was an insult to their followers to promote, thank god they don’t promote that awful things anymore. sure Lily Silk and something Luna in jewelry are not great but are okay, probably they wouldn’t wear instead of Cartier but their stuff don’t look as shady as the San Reve backpack.
Demelier like it or not, definitely looks luxurious, something these higher level influencers get to stuff where they don’t want their lux bags to be ruined, maybe looking stylish to go shopping and they don’t want to want to worry about their bags, when you are the fitting room it’s comes a time where you are not babying your bag anymore, for those moments I can see luxury RUclipsrs carrying their Demelier, instead of their triumphed bag lol 😂
Omg, the senreve backpack is a monstrosity. I don't mind sponsorships. But I hate it when these companies have campaigns and all of the influencers release videos at the same time with lily silk and idyl. Like space it out please.
Also my biggest pet peeve is seeing influencers promote dupes on Amazon saying how great it is. And then in all their posts or pictures they're only posting designer bags. Fake.
Lol I'm such a hater. But I've created this channel as a consumer of bags and YT viewer first. I actually use all my bags. I have one or two that I haven't used because I'm too scared. But out of the rest of my collection, I use ALL of them.
@@Somehowadulting true promoting Amazon and seeing them in pictures wearing just designer that’s dishonest. Now the only I understand with these sponsorships and promoting Amazon is Shea Whitney because she basically almost changed her content all together, she barley talks about luxury anymore.
Her style of videos totally changed, she started as lux content creator but has never made life blogs, so her Chanel does feel much more real. She is actually one of my favorite influencers or content creators. If she uses more her luxury we never know because she doesn’t expose much of her life like Valeria Lipovetzky or Tamara Kalinick, all her videos are in her closet and all doing fashion hacks, or home tricks.
I remember a time when many luxury RUclipsrs were crying on their Chanel the luxury bubble was bursting and were kind of panicking on camera. Shea without making any announcements or anything suddenly all her videos were more about more affordable items.
At first was hard to believe her but getting used now to that content makes more sense her Amazon suggestions, probably she won’t wear her less expensive bags again we’ll never know.
I thought Strathberry went viral bcos of Meghan not Kate... and you did put up a photo of Meghan too... 😅
Yup you are right! I did that's why I corrected myself with a caption *Meghan Markle.
Kate has carried Strathberry too 😊
@@picklesmith1972 ya! I'm sure they all have to support their local brands 🙂
Kate does mainly carry UK brands but the odd Chanel does appear! 😊
@@Somehowadulting with my trip to Paris I noticed all European countries are patriotic with their own brands.
I saw Demelier at galleries Lafayette but they definitely had a smaller section than Zadig & Voltaire. Also with the lux bags in lower flooor Dior and LV had better corners or stores than Burberry.
Printemps didn’t have Demelier at all. I was also looking for Aspinal at champs and also the two most important department stores and not Aspinal of London
Now I bet if next time I visit London I won’t see much of the French brands.
Also one of my bffs told me when she goes to Spain she loves buying purificación García because is much better price than Mexico where I’m from well no PG in Paris.
Each country in Europe is very patriotic of their local brands.
I love bag videos, so far this is the most boring one. Sorry and good luck
Don't be sorry, I'm not! Just sharing my opinion, not everyone wants to listen to me ramble I get it. I definitely don't have the money to keep buying bags for unboxings. Those videos are fun I know.
