    Hi Ndisa,
Yes. There were many great/legendary guitarists who influenced this man (and many that have come after), but he was the greatest of all time. He taught himself, inspired by his older brother.

I know I'm dating myself a bit here, but I was a teenager during Jimi Hendrix's era. No question Jimi was in a sense a pioneer and intovater and opened the door for a lot of acts that would follow to really turn it up and turn it loose, live and in the studio. But that was an era that spawned a host of great guitarists that would become icons in rock. Guys who on any given night that could go out and play just as well as Hendrix live, and nobody knew that any better than Jimi. Guys like the late Johnny Winter, Alvin Lee, & Duane Allman to name just a few off the top of my head, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan all playing up in rock n roll heaven with Jimi now. That said, Jimi may have opened the door, but Stevie Ray came along, kicked the door off the hinges, and took a fucking flame thrower to it. Now I'm not saying Stevie is the greatest guitarist ever. But I would say that whoever's #2 has got a lot of catching up to do.

Well, you wake up with it, and go to bed with it, and everything in between. That, and you play with about every great blues player on the planet, in the 70's & 80's....you do that for about 20 years, ...and the next thing you know... you show people how to smoke a guitar.

Stevie Ray is literally the thing about my home state of Texas that I'm most proud of. One of the greatest players of all time, and one of the greatest guitar tones ever. One of his major inspirations was a blues guitar legend named Albert King. There are quite a few videos of them playing together. Stevie was basically self-taught, with an absurd amount of practice.

Stevie Ray Vaughan was playing like a legend already at age 15 and shocked the recording studio staff during his first recording. He was able to reproduce the styles of Hendrix, Clapton and more on demand and adding his own twist on music as well. The guy just loved, lived and breathed music to the point that he could not just play, but 'channel' it through his guitar without even looking at it.

Stevie failed music theory class in school for falling asleep in class too much. He was 17, and playing in dive blues bars all through the night, so when he went to school during the day, he was exhausted. Stevie and his brother, Jimmy, taught themselves how to play guitar.
