I think the book of Enoch explains this well. The Book of Giants. I have always understood them to be the offspring of the Fallen Angels and the daughters of man. These were the Angels that were cast out of heaven because they thought they could do better than God. Some of the first Narcissists I guess.
It has been brought up below, but I would like to get Dr. Ross' view of Dr. Heiser's work in "Unseen Realm" or "Supernatural." I find there works very interesting, but Dr. Heiser's biblical knowledge is light years beyond my ability to critique: therefore, I must rely on other experts opinions to develop a realistic perspective on his scholarship.
The sons of God refers to the rebel angels who abandoned their estate in heaven and came to earth.Procreated with the women and had offspring called the nephilim..Read the Book of Enoch. It's all explained.
Genesis 6:1-2 KJV [1] And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, [2] That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
@@istudante You asked for it ;o) The interviewer refers to an interpretation whereby Nephilim are "just merely mortal men, but then when we think about some of the physical limitations of mere men..." but we have no reliable physical description of Nephilim so that is a non-issue. There is also no indication in Revelation that “creatures like that” will come back since Rephaim are humans and do not need to “come back” but he is mistaking them for Nephilim and we have no indication that they looked anything like that described in Rev 9-who, I would say, is the return of the fallen/sinful Angels (not demons).

6:20 dont worry about nephilim today, but there is one reference in revelations where he may let them out for 5 months, but i think they're locked away in the abyss for eternity. 8:30 they were found in greek lit on the island of crete.
Everyone wondering about this issue needs to read the Unseen Realm and Reversing Hermon by Dr Michael Heiser. Gen 6:1-4 is about angels that left their “proper domain “ and had sex with human woman, creating the Nephilim. Because they were a hybrid of angels and mankind, their spirits are stuck here. Demons came from the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim. 1 Enoch also gives some great insight into these beings. Of course satan was trying to thwart God’s plan through mixing supernatural DNA with human. Early church taught this. NT covers it. Shouldn’t be an issue.
Blank Trigger 1 Enoch isn’t Scripture, but it is an important book for context and reference. It was in the minds of Jude, Peter and others when they wrote and spoke.
