Yep. And planes make SA even worse. Years before I ever had problems with sleep on the ground, and got diagnosed with SA I knew that I could never sleep on a plane as I'd drift off and 2 minutes later snap awake, gasping for breath and high on adrenaline from my body panicking from lack of oxygen.

I have sleep apnea. I just got diagnosed this year but suspected it for many years. Knowing what I know now, I actually think I had it my entire life. I can’t use a cpap (hate it) so I use a sleep apnea mouth device. I’m 3-4 months in and my quality of sleep lately is amazing. I never knew that you could wake up NOT tired. Not looking forward to bed the moment you wake up. Not randomly falling asleep. Having no energy. Even as a teen I craved sleep. I now feel refreshed. I have energy. Not as much brain fog. I don’t wake up with headaches every day. I feel so much better.

    • @stevefirst1512
      @stevefirst1512 6 месяцев назад +7

I have the same problem. Cpap just doesn't work for me. What alternative device worked for you? I actually bought a double sport mouthpiece and tried to boil mold it to make the bottom.half jut out very slightly. I've done quite a bit of study on nose breathing so the mouthpiece permitted no mouth breathing. Great idea except I couldn't fall asleep with it and more or less wussed out because I didn't have that much confidence in my own contraption. I have heard there are similar items out there but the only ones I have found are on late night infomercials. Any help would be appreciated. TU.

Sadly it is not one of the most downplayed conditions. I have the most ignored condition in western medicine and a few other rare ones. Most doctors will blush off anything that's somewhat complicated or "rare". I also have sleep apnea though, and no one's done anything about it yet. I'm not saying it's not ignored but there are lots of conditions that doctors try to act like aren't a big deal. But they really are. It's all very sad.

I'm a RN. I have severe obstructive sleep apnea. I believe I had it since 2nd grade. It virtually ruined my life. I never did the sounds or snoring. My body would just wake me so I'd wake 100s of times a night and then as part of routine preop tests for a cosmetic procedure at age 39 they required a sleep study. I had 318 times I stopped breathing. Woke 248x. Pulse ox 71%. My whole life my quality of life has sucked from fatigue, feeling crappy all the time, etc. I went to doctor after doctor w my laundry list of problems and they either dismissed it or acted as if I was a drug seeker. Or they'd put me on a bunch of meds that never helped. Since I didn't snore...literally NOONE ever did a sleep study on me and I suffered my whole life for it.

I have sleep apnea, and my machine broke and I was sleeping at my mother's house and she said she had to go in my room she said I sounded like I was literally choking to death and then several seconds would go by and she would hear me gasping for air. I immediately made a new appointment for a new sleep study, because I was wondering why I literally could not stay up during the day would fall asleep after I've been up for only an hour, and literally could not remember anything anyone said 5 minutes after having a conversation with them. Sleep apnea stresses to heart, and it really ruins the quality of life, to the point where you are so tired during the day you can't enjoy anything. When I started having to take strong painkillers for my spinal issues, I developed sleep apnea, which I didn't know about until my ex told me that she was waking up in the night because I hadn't breathed for up to 30 seconds. Some nights she was actually crying because of the sound of some of the breaths I was taking.
Getting checked for sleep apnea was the best decision I ever made. In the years since I got it, I went through a period of not using it every night because of little personal issues, but once I started using it every night the changes were enormous.
There have only been 2 occasions since I started using it every night when I wasn't able to use it, both occasions lasted 2 nights, and I'm not exaggerating or trying to sound overly dramatic when I say that I genuinely felt myself regressing back to feeling the early signs of depression and my spinal issues were made to feel way worse because of all of the rolling around in the night.

My mom had a sleep study done, too, and she was diagnosed as only getting the equivalent of 4 hours of sleep a night due to sleep apnea. (Plus she'd snored heavily)
She had complained of always being tired during the day, plus she got headaches often.
After she was prescribed a sleep apnea machine, it reversed the problem completely. 😊😴

He’s so right. My mom is a sleep study tech and it can truly change your life. And not just to help you get a good night’s sleep. It also contributes to many other conditions like blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease among other things. The lack of oxygen actually kills your brain cells as well. And for those that think you will be uncomfortable wearing the mask to sleep the difference it makes in your quality of sleep makes it where it’s welcome. My step dad eagerly uses his for every little nap he takes. They also have pillows with a cut out for the hose that makes it more comfortable if you’re a side sleeper. If you have issues please do yourself a favor and get tested!

    This hit me really hard.
When I was 3 years old riding a tricycle I was ran over by a truck. I broke both my left and right collarbones, my left wrist, I had 2nd degree road rash on the entirety of my left face as I was dragged on concrete before the driver stopped. But the worst thing that happened was breaking my nose.
Upon arrival to the hospital I was immediately rushed into surgery where I underwent 4 hours of operations battling for my life. Because of the horrible shape I was in the doctors were only able to preform operations that were absolutely necessary for my survival as additional surgery’s would actually put me in even more danger. One of those injuries they didn’t fix at the time was my broken nose.
Because I was so young, growth occurs quickly. So by time they were able to fix my nose without jeopardizing my life the septum of my nose was touching the inside of my left nostril blocking off my airway. As a result of this I can hardly breath out of the left side of my nose so I snore loudly because it’s not possible to stop. I have underwent 5 deviated septum surgeries to try and open my nose more so I could breath better but none of them worked. (The breathing machine also didn’t help).
Sleep Apnea is the worst. Not only does it make falling sleep hard, it makes staying asleep hard as well. But above all this the worst part was the insecurities it left me with. In 3rd grade we took a nap in class for 30 minutes as a reward for something by the teacher and I was very excited but then when the time came for the nap I started snoring and I was made fun of for it. It really hurt my feelings to know I wasn’t ‘normal’ because of something outside of my control

They said unfortunately this happens and walked off. So when the guy finally woke up I told him about it and that he should get checked for sleep apnea. He said he didn't have a clue that he was doing it, and that his wife has had an appointment for herself at the sleep clinic. He then made an appointment for himself as well.

I was starting to have issues with sleeping due to my weight. If I slept on my back I would wake myself up from snoring/catching my breath. I’m 5’10 and weighed about 330 pounds. I’m down to 220 now and haven’t had problems with sleeping since I got below 300, I’ve also stopped snoring entirely according to my fiancé. I don’t think that’s considered sleep apnea, I guess i was just too fat to sleep lmao

If you know anime or what have you he was like Vegeta very prideful but he knew when and how to speak to people. I miss this Man very much. Passed away due to liver cancer before I can graduate highschool. But I'd always hear him wake up like he would be suffocating or drowning. Sleep apnea is no joke please if you or you know someone that has it please refer them to a doctor.

Both of my kids have sleep apnea, but not me. It runs on dad's side. I just got my daughter evaluated for it, she has enlarged tonsils which they believe are causing it. Waiting for the referral to come in from the ENT dept to schedule her tonsillectomy. She's so tired all the time and wakes up with headaches regularly. Her brother has the same issue, they say his tonsils are enlarged too, but I'll wait to see how she does first before I schedule him, she's 12 and he's 7.

just went to a rehab for physical therapy and my roommate had that and more. I told the nurses but noone did anything about it and she was not the type you could speak to about much so I did let her leave without suggesting she get help. she was very nasty in other ways, so I was glad when she left. mom and I bought coat buttons to sew on Dad's pajama backs. it worked for awhile, the buttons dig into his spine when he rolled onto his back, so he'd roll back over to his side, but it eventually got so bad nothing but the mask and oxygen helped. he was a Pearl Harbor Survivor, by the way.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea when I got my CDL. That machine was a nightmare in my life. And after I went and got a negative test from a lab the sleep apnea company refused to accept it and forced me to keep using it.. I had to go get a new medical card to remove that nightmare out my life. In my personal experience this diagnosis are more scams than anything else. I don't denied it does exist but it has become a business more than actually help the patient.

Not sure why you wouldn't be getting any air, either the hose was crimped somewhere, or the machine auto turned off. Many have auto-start/stop features you can try disabling them likely the mask wasn't fitted well enough so it thought you took the mask off and turned itself off.
