Yep. And planes make SA even worse. Years before I ever had problems with sleep on the ground, and got diagnosed with SA I knew that I could never sleep on a plane as I'd drift off and 2 minutes later snap awake, gasping for breath and high on adrenaline from my body panicking from lack of oxygen.
Do you know this mouthpiece that he's referring to? My husband has tried a lot of different things with no success and refuses to see a doctor(he has white coat anxiety)

I have sleep apnea. I just got diagnosed this year but suspected it for many years. Knowing what I know now, I actually think I had it my entire life. I can’t use a cpap (hate it) so I use a sleep apnea mouth device. I’m 3-4 months in and my quality of sleep lately is amazing. I never knew that you could wake up NOT tired. Not looking forward to bed the moment you wake up. Not randomly falling asleep. Having no energy. Even as a teen I craved sleep. I now feel refreshed. I have energy. Not as much brain fog. I don’t wake up with headaches every day. I feel so much better.
I have the same problem. Cpap just doesn't work for me. What alternative device worked for you? I actually bought a double sport mouthpiece and tried to boil mold it to make the bottom.half jut out very slightly. I've done quite a bit of study on nose breathing so the mouthpiece permitted no mouth breathing. Great idea except I couldn't fall asleep with it and more or less wussed out because I didn't have that much confidence in my own contraption. I have heard there are similar items out there but the only ones I have found are on late night infomercials. Any help would be appreciated. TU.
@@stevefirst1512 I went to a sleep apnea dentist! They made a mouthpiece that is designed for me and helped me to find the level of pushing my jaw forward that is most ideal. I’d highly recommend seeing one in your area!
I'm that guy from the flight ! Thank you Joe. Changed my life. I've since lost 25 lbs and gotten fitted for a breathing apparatus. I feel 1000% better. Can sleep a sold night and wake up refreshed.
My first sleep test...stopped breathing 536 times in 7hrs. I thought it was my prostate issues I kept getting up for but no I was choking to death and that was just one night
I was in same boat with how many times I stop breathing in a night. One night I did stop breathing, had no air left in my lungs. My dog in the picture knew I had stopped breathing and she shoved her nose in my side and got me awake. When I woke I was gasping to get air back in my lungs. It took like 10 minutes to get a normal pattern back. She my guardian angel. I am not overweight. But I have since quit drinking alcohol and improved my diet. No longer need my CPAP.
Yea i lost a bunch of weight to control mine but when i was in bad shape i was in _bad_ shape. I used to not only get woken up by my apnea i would then proceed to full on sleep walk into shit
@@FartInYourFace234 I have severe sleep apnea. I’m a pretty fit guy. 5’11”/170lbs. Exercise x5 a week. It’s not an overweight thing for me. I’ve had it all my life.
Sadly it is not one of the most downplayed conditions. I have the most ignored condition in western medicine and a few other rare ones. Most doctors will blush off anything that's somewhat complicated or "rare". I also have sleep apnea though, and no one's done anything about it yet. I'm not saying it's not ignored but there are lots of conditions that doctors try to act like aren't a big deal. But they really are. It's all very sad.
I'm a RN. I have severe obstructive sleep apnea. I believe I had it since 2nd grade. It virtually ruined my life. I never did the sounds or snoring. My body would just wake me so I'd wake 100s of times a night and then as part of routine preop tests for a cosmetic procedure at age 39 they required a sleep study. I had 318 times I stopped breathing. Woke 248x. Pulse ox 71%. My whole life my quality of life has sucked from fatigue, feeling crappy all the time, etc. I went to doctor after doctor w my laundry list of problems and they either dismissed it or acted as if I was a drug seeker. Or they'd put me on a bunch of meds that never helped. Since I didn't snore...literally NOONE ever did a sleep study on me and I suffered my whole life for it.
Are you in the United States, or in a country with socialized medicine? I'm an RPSGT, and in the US, it's taken very seriously. In socialized medicine countries, you could very well hit a dead-end wall and never get the help you need.
I have sleep apnea, and my machine broke and I was sleeping at my mother's house and she said she had to go in my room she said I sounded like I was literally choking to death and then several seconds would go by and she would hear me gasping for air. I immediately made a new appointment for a new sleep study, because I was wondering why I literally could not stay up during the day would fall asleep after I've been up for only an hour, and literally could not remember anything anyone said 5 minutes after having a conversation with them. Sleep apnea stresses to heart, and it really ruins the quality of life, to the point where you are so tired during the day you can't enjoy anything. That was really nice of Joe Rogan to help that man out.
When I started having to take strong painkillers for my spinal issues, I developed sleep apnea, which I didn't know about until my ex told me that she was waking up in the night because I hadn't breathed for up to 30 seconds. Some nights she was actually crying because of the sound of some of the breaths I was taking. Getting checked for sleep apnea was the best decision I ever made. In the years since I got it, I went through a period of not using it every night because of little personal issues, but once I started using it every night the changes were enormous. There have only been 2 occasions since I started using it every night when I wasn't able to use it, both occasions lasted 2 nights, and I'm not exaggerating or trying to sound overly dramatic when I say that I genuinely felt myself regressing back to feeling the early signs of depression and my spinal issues were made to feel way worse because of all of the rolling around in the night.
I learned the hard way to bring spare supplies on trips. It was a three day trip and on night one, my mask tore. I couldn't get supplies anywhere and it was a miserable three days. Now on any trip, it's spare filters, spare mask, spare hose, spare adapter for the hose. I also bring an extension cord to be sure I can reach an outlet.
As a person with sleep apnea - ABSOLUTELY TRUE I had undiagnosed sleep apnea for a year. My first night sleeping with a machine was basically the first night I had slept in a year. I cried the next morning, I literally didn't remember what it was like to get a night's sleep. My health has improved dramatically!
My dentist told me I had a small mouth and a big tongue and he couldn't diagnose , but he'd bet money I had sleep apena and should go get tested. Had a slow start with the machine but yes, felt like you really weren't sleeping before
@Abe Froman the pressure they started me off at was so low it did t really work and I was taking it off after a hour. I adjusted the pressure up one every night until it got better
As a Sleep Technician for the last 23 years, I SO appreciate you showing concern and giving sound, firm advice, Joe. I really hope he listened to you and took it seriously. He can easily die in his sleep of a heart attack (but secondarily caused by obstructive sleep apnea). I've used CPAP myself for 14 years, and good for you in getting that special mouthpiece!
This hit me really hard. When I was 3 years old riding a tricycle I was ran over by a truck. I broke both my left and right collarbones, my left wrist, I had 2nd degree road rash on the entirety of my left face as I was dragged on concrete before the driver stopped. But the worst thing that happened was breaking my nose. Upon arrival to the hospital I was immediately rushed into surgery where I underwent 4 hours of operations battling for my life. Because of the horrible shape I was in the doctors were only able to preform operations that were absolutely necessary for my survival as additional surgery’s would actually put me in even more danger. One of those injuries they didn’t fix at the time was my broken nose. Because I was so young, growth occurs quickly. So by time they were able to fix my nose without jeopardizing my life the septum of my nose was touching the inside of my left nostril blocking off my airway. As a result of this I can hardly breath out of the left side of my nose so I snore loudly because it’s not possible to stop. I have underwent 5 deviated septum surgeries to try and open my nose more so I could breath better but none of them worked. (The breathing machine also didn’t help). Sleep Apnea is the worst. Not only does it make falling sleep hard, it makes staying asleep hard as well. But above all this the worst part was the insecurities it left me with. In 3rd grade we took a nap in class for 30 minutes as a reward for something by the teacher and I was very excited but then when the time came for the nap I started snoring and I was made fun of for it. It really hurt my feelings to know I wasn’t ‘normal’ because of something outside of my control
Dude honest to God!!! I was walking across a main street at night, got hit, broke my leg and had that weird metal cage on it. Broke my eye socket and pinched my optic nerve and im permanently blind in my left eye and every single time I say I care more about my damn nose break than my eye. I'm hacking up mucus every damn two seconds or I just gag and that ain't fun for anyone in the damn room.. best wishes on your end man.
@@noahlaizer7434 you to bro! Luckily I didn’t have any other lasting injuries other than the issue with my nose I hope you weren’t permanently messed up worse haha
He’s so right. My mom is a sleep study tech and it can truly change your life. And not just to help you get a good night’s sleep. It also contributes to many other conditions like blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease among other things. The lack of oxygen actually kills your brain cells as well. And for those that think you will be uncomfortable wearing the mask to sleep the difference it makes in your quality of sleep makes it where it’s welcome. My step dad eagerly uses his for every little nap he takes. They also have pillows with a cut out for the hose that makes it more comfortable if you’re a side sleeper. If you have issues please do yourself a favor and get tested!
I have sleep apnea myself, but didn’t understand the seriousness of it till last year, when a coworker passed. He forgot to put on his cpap, stopped breathing and went in to cardiac arrest and past in his sleep. Like Joe said, get medical attention, cause your life depends on it.
I'm sorry about your coworker. My sleep center told me sleep apnea is like having little heart attacks every night. I've never missed a nap or night without my machine after that. I don't think people realize how serious it really is. They just think, oh I snore loud.
My healthcare proffesional told me that its like having a series of mini strokes during sleep. No wonder I felt like shit for years before I was diagnosed.
The CPAP won’t keep you from stop breathing, it just helps prevent the stoppage. My wife saves my life about every six months when I stop breathing and don’t wake up. I’m scared to use my CPAP though because it’s harder for her to hear me making the same noises Joe is describing.
i have been on a CPAP SINCE 1999. when i got my sleeping under control i lost almost 100 pounds in four months. a balanced sleep is so important, get yourself checked out it will change your life. god bless.

I once started getting sleep apnea when I was a little overweight and once I lost that little bit of extra weight (from 215 down to under 200), my breathing problems stopped completely. Since then, I've kept my weight around 180-190 and I don't have those breathing issues anymore. I understand not every case is cut and dry, though.
My sleep doc told me my sleep apnea isn't because I'm fat, its because of my jaw/throat/tongue lay out. He called me a "natural". Tongue too big, throat too small.
My dad used to freak us out. He refused to believe us till we filmed him. Dude freaked out so bad he ditched work and went to specialist. Changed his life. Dude actually had a physical transformation.

Rogan's not kidding at all. My C-pap machine has completely changed my life. I went from nodding out sitting in traffic, or in meetings, to having complete attention at everything I do now.
As a sleep apnea sufferer myself, I can say without a doubt, the best thing that man could do is take Joe’s advice!!! Having sleep apnea & using a c-pap makes a night & day difference!!! The only way I know how to explain it is, being able to actually get restful sleep! And not wake up tired!!!
Ya, I guarantee the guy knew he had OSA before Joe mentioned it. Most ppl who *definitely* have it, already know... They just aren't willing to wear a CPAP. 🤷
My ex husband used to do that and he would get so defensive and angry when i would tell him he had to go to the doctor. I was suffering too because i couldnt sleep because of the bear next to me. I video taped him and i showed him articles of the health dangers and after a long time, i mean years of this, he finally got his machine and now he will not go wothout it.

My mom had a sleep study done, too, and she was diagnosed as only getting the equivalent of 4 hours of sleep a night due to sleep apnea. (Plus she'd snored heavily) She had complained of always being tired during the day, plus she got headaches often. After she was prescribed a sleep apnea machine, it reversed the problem completely. 😊😴
Apnea is no joke. 84 full Apnea episodes an hour and countless partials here. It does make a difference to see a Dr and have that sleep study. With my cpap I have less headaches, I don't fully wake up in the llnight as I used to, I get more sound and restful sleep, I have more energy, my appetite has evened out, I don't feel the need to snack as often for energy. I'm less irritable, it's been a life changer. If anyone has ever told you that you snore or breath funny when asleep, speak to someone. Apnea in some cases can be life threatening.
@DerekMoore82 also, you should really be breathing through your nose. You might try a chin strap to help keep your mouth closed at night. I've been through all the trial and errors!
My dad has this too. The doctor gave him a little monitor to go home and sleep with and it recorded that he stopped breathing 60 times in one night of sleep.

@@MandelaFreeman first step is talking to your doctor. To get the machine you have to have a sleep study done. For me, that was just a kit I took home and hooked myself up for a night so it could monitor me. If you’re confirmed to have sleep apnea, then a sleep doctor can get a machine for you. Sleep studies used to be very expensive, but the at home ones are quite economical. As I recall, the machine was around $600, but they spread they payments out so it’s not too bad.

Hi, I might have sleep apnea as well as i snore a lot according to my girlfriend. I actually saw some videos about the CPAP machine, isn't it uncomfortable to sleep with? You gotta carry it around with you on business trips/vacations as well?
A few years ago I participated in a Sleep Study for the VA, and they told me I had Sleep Apnia, and stopped breathing average of every 12 minutes while in REM sleep. They gave me a Ventilator. OMG. It made such a difference to my energy! I felt 20 years younger immediately, just being able to actually sleep stress free all night
I had the same thing in my hospital room. The guy was snoring loud and would stop breathing for what seemed like forever,so much so I called the nurse in. They said unfortunately this happens and walked off. So when the guy finally woke up I told him about it and that he should get checked for sleep apnea. He said he didn't have a clue that he was doing it, and that his wife has had an appointment for herself at the sleep clinic. He then made an appointment for himself as well.
I was starting to have issues with sleeping due to my weight. If I slept on my back I would wake myself up from snoring/catching my breath. I’m 5’10 and weighed about 330 pounds. I’m down to 220 now and haven’t had problems with sleeping since I got below 300, I’ve also stopped snoring entirely according to my fiancé.
TU.

Sadly it is not one of the most downplayed conditions. I have the most ignored condition in western medicine and a few other rare ones.
But are you big?
Are you in the United States, or in a country with socialized medicine? I'm an RPSGT, and in the US, it's taken very seriously. In socialized medicine countries, you could very well hit a dead-end wall and never get the help you need.

Think he died.....
Just curious why you got a new study when you already knew you had it.
@@donogoodatgames that's what my brother told me, that consistency is the key to feeling better, I am glad that your depression lifted!

@@steviegonzales2348 brrrrrrruuuuuuh. I've just woke people up laughing. I was reading this thinking, I don't want to be rude or insensitive, but what the fuck... Or maybe I'm just tired... So I went to re-read it but seen your comment.
Fucking snotted everywhere trying not to laugh
I'm in a rehab right now and my roommate never sleeps. Oh, he snores A LOT and he's either in a bad mood or you can sense on the edge of exploding. We've never said a word to each other. I was told that this room was his last chance or he would be kicked out. We're both being discharged about the same time.
@@steviegonzales2348 Yeah, that's quite a disjointed comment. 😁
@@nckhed Probably from lack of sleep.😂
I sleep with a CPAP ( Constant Positive Air Pressure) machine. Had sleep studies to readjust the pressure. Before I was diagnosed by my DOCTOR, I always wondered why my Bouvier would bark in my face when I fell asleep in my chair. Interrupted sleep ruins your life.
I'm 5'9" and 190 and have had cpap machine for 2 years. Love it so much. I have to sleep on my side though because if I sleep on my back I still snore even with the CPAP on.
“Jamie, pull up that clip of the bear with sleep apnea!”
😂
As someone with sleep apnea I have gained new respect for Joe. People do not realise how much embarrassment and suffering we go through if left untreated. Not to mention if left untreated can reduce your life span by a lot
I sent my husband to the doctor over this and I was right.
This video literally changed my life. I'm 38 and I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2021 and haven't had a good night's sleep since until 2 night's ago. Because of this video I went and bought the Zsilent and have be sleeping great ever since. I now feel rested and energized when I wake up plus I have energy throughout the day. My libido is back to normal with morning erection etc. I can't wait to see the long term effects. Thus product is worth every penny.
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea when I got my CDL. That machine was a nightmare in my life. And after I went and got a negative test from a lab the sleep apnea company refused to accept it and forced me to keep using it.. I had to go get a new medical card to remove that nightmare out my life. In my personal experience this diagnosis are more scams than anything else. I don't denied it does exist but it has become a business more than actually help the patient.
Nobody can tell tell they are snoring, its extremely difficult to know, unless someone tells you.
Sometimes I wake up with my snore sounds, should I care?
@@Ruimneyyes, if you snore yourself awake you have a problem
You can record your sleep & check it next day to see if you are snoring.
I was expecting Joe to say "I showed him the video I recorded of him sleeping. " 😆
It’s not just over weight..UK has been doing study’s showing the tonsils get in gorged/over sized & need to be removed. They remove tonsils for kids for this reason but prefer to sell machines to adults. C-pap machines come with issues to. Remove tonsils..it’s easier! 😁👍
I had a sleep study conducted. I had severe sleep apnea (I’m not overweight). I got CPAP and I feel so much better in the morning!
I have sleep apnea. Because of the discomfort the mask and system causes I went 10 days without sleep. Day 11 I didn't wear the mask and slept like a baby.
@@slc308 same here.. the mask works great when I first put it on, and then a few hours later I wake up gasping for air and then realized I don't feel any air coming in through the mask. Took it off and the next morning I took it back and told my doctor this cpap is crap, and then was told there's nothing else he could do or suggest.
@@dominicfrost8627 There is an array of different masks that you can try and eventually you find one that is comfortable and the right size.
Not sure why you wouldn't be getting any air, either the hose was crimped somewhere, or the machine auto turned off. Many have auto-start/stop features you can try disabling them likely the mask wasn't fitted well enough so it thought you took the mask off and turned itself off.
I had a lot of sleepless nights growing up with an older brother who had one of the worst cases of sleep apnea the doctor told him.
@@walterb3946 Too big too strong . I had no choice, it definitely messed up how I sleep for the rest of my life.
My brother was a star lacrosse player. 2% body fat, six pack, strong. He snored so loud I could hear him downstairs. It’s not only for fat people…though weight never helps.
Joe Rogan the unsung hero, saving lives on a daily basis. My God.
"You ever seen a bear with sleep apnoea? It goes like this HNYOORK"
My brother died 3 weeks ago due to sleep apnea. Please continue this advocacy. We didnt paid much attention to his condition until it was too late.
Jesus, dude... Did he suffocate while sleeping or something?
Don't beat yourself up. He's in a better place watching over you.
Lol. Lies to make the living feel better.
He's gone and we all will be soon.
No heaven.
But it is what it is so nothing we can do about it.
The end.
@budgetingstrategies6240 let's have that same energy when you have someone close to you parish.
It's sad to die from apnea. I'm more commenting on the heaven comment. It's an empty excuse to make dying okay. @@stunt509
I agree with you 100% Joe Rogan I have sleep apnea myself and before I was using my machine I actually had fluids oozing out in my legs after using it within about a month month and a half somewhere in there swelling started going down I started growing hair back on my legs even answered on my toes first Andy fluids head stopped and yes you're definitely right it will make a difference nacho people all the time anyway great videos Man please give up the good work thank you for sharing with us brother. 👍👍🙏
I probably need to get checked out. I was told I hold my breath while I sleep
Definitely
So was I but that was about 10 years ago and I never got it checked
Please do it will help you so much. Sleep apnea is no joke. Having a cpap machine is great!
This is why I'd hate sleeping in public whether it was a plane, train or bus. I'd be embarrassed and stay quiet when I'd wake up 😂😂
The "jostling" was adrenaline being released by the body in an effort to save itself. Put simply, adrenaline WHILE you sleep - conscious or not - prevents you from reaching the necessary cycles (esp REM) where critical restorative processes happen. Wonder why you're exhausted so often despite sleeping all night?
I was on a plane once and I heard this ghhgghghh.... I turned around and this couple was taking the mile high thing to a new level.
🤣🤣🤣
My dad got a sleep study and he nearly died like 3-4 times in a night of sleep apparently. I played bball with Reggie White's son. I'll never forget when he passed away from it. It's real. It's serious. Get it checked out.
I have COPD. sleep apnea is very seriot. Thank you for the vigilance
Finally a good medical advice from Joe.

NFL hall of famer Reggie White died in his sleep from this. His wife was right next to him.
He has a foundation that was created to help treat sleep apnea and to spread awareness! We appreciate you bringing this up in the comments!
He went from challenging people to do stupid shit on fear factor to doctor Joe giving strangers advice about sleep apnea.Never the less good for you Joe for looking out another person. 👍
Someone’s gotta animate this 😂
I grew up with a father who had severe snoring issues... as did I. affected my childhood in ways a young girl shouldn't have to deal with. no sleep overs, no summer camp, not to mention how mortified I was if anyone ever heard me. as a woman in my mid 20's I saw this article in a magazine that said... "if you can say yes to any of these questions, you may have this thing called "sleep apnea". never heard of it before. Ive been on high blood pressure meds since my teens. After bringing this awareness up to my Dr I had a sleep study done & got a cpap machine. I never really got the hang of using it. many years later I brought up my concerns to my Dr & asked for help. new sleep study, a BIPAP machine & my life has changed completely. I'm now 53 & can sleep 5 hrs & be rested! my father finally listened to me & got a sleep study done. I remember telling his Dr that it's so unfortunate that so many people have this & it's just not talked about & not studied enough yet. he says to me "Ive been doing this for 10 yrs". I laughed & told him that I'd diagnosed myself 15 yrs ago! what's 10 years in the medical fields?? needles to say my father passed away with his mask in his hand, trying to use it like oxygen. I'm an advocate with all of my friends & family members. have driven many people to their study appnts. weirdest question I've ever been asked "when's your bedtime"?? "huh? it's 20 mins after I get home, whether 3pm or 11 at night...there's a path of clothing to my bed & there Id be for how ever long I had. no life, tired beyond tired every single day!
Yeah, he was in first class so there was room for an intimate caring conversation
this joke is too genius for most
"Poor bastard" 🤣
😆😆😆😆🤦♂️
I stopped breathing 71 times in an hour. Had my sleep study and I have to use a bipap because I sleep with my mouth open. I couldn't believe how good I slept for a very first time in over a year. Woke up choking so bad and scared my kids because I blacked out and that was it!!! Told my doctor what was going on and she sent me to a pulmonologist. Best move I made. Please do what Joe is saying here. Go get checked out. I lost a friend to sleep apnea at just 40 years young. God bless!
I hear that horses use that same mouthpiece
Ivermectin 😂
I’m surprised Joe didn’t ask if he has tried DMT, as soon as he woke up.🤔😅
My Father had sleep Apnea he didn't know about it. Very cocky respectful Man he wasn't disrespectful with anyone unless you challenged his family or hurt someone he loved obviously his family. If you know anime or what have you he was like Vegeta very prideful but he knew when and how to speak to people. I miss this Man very much. Passed away due to liver cancer before I can graduate highschool. But I'd always hear him wake up like he would be suffocating or drowning. Sleep apnea is no joke please if you or you know someone that has it please refer them to a doctor.
