  • Failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS), also referred to by doctors as “post-laminectomy syndrome”, is a term used to describe patients who continue to experience pain after spine surgery. Dr. Bonati discusses FBSS and the complications that arise with this surgery and how it can affect your lifestyle. Traditional open back surgery by nature is unpredictable at best, and most sources claim that FBSS is seen in nearly up to 60% of individuals that have previously undergone this type of surgery. Failed back surgery happens so frequently it’s currently defined as a “syndrome.”

My life has been ruined since my lower back spinal fusion. DO NOT HAVE IT DONE. Your back & spine can no longer bend properly & later on in life, you WILL have further complications. The disc & spine above & below the fusion will be under immense strain, & wear out quicker, causing further pain to you. For the past 18 years, I have lived with constant back pain, and neck pain, & am now in the hospital again because I have problems with my upper neck. If you are overweight, get rid of your weight problem. Move, and use pilates to strengthen your back. I am in the UK, where we trust surgeons. They all want to cut you open. My physiotherapists said, that unless you are in a wheelchair & cannot walk, leave surgery options well alone.

This one one of the reasons why the physicians at the Bonati Spine Institute do not perform or recommend spinal fusions. The risks and dangers associated with fusions can be avoided by treating the problem with the Bonati Spine Procedures. Before Dr. Bonati's innovations the success rates in spinal surgeries were roughly 50/50 thus many recommended not to undergo spine surgery. With the Bonati Procedures our surgeons achieve a high success rate which makes it much better to have the surgery sooner rather than later. We have successfully treated many patients with previously failed spinal surgeries. Let us know if you would like our physicians to review your case.

Omg , i am experiencing more pain than ever since my cervical laminectomy with fusion, C1 to C7, 12 screws , 2 rods, 2 years later, and right now I’m ready to just die the pain in the back of my head, neck, shoulder( left side) pain down my arms, legs , lower back I can no longer do all the walking, bike riding living life vicariously etc! My surgeon , after surgery said nothing he can do, he never fully explained what surgery complications post surgery that I would endure….it’s a workman’s comp case and they treated me horribly…I don’t want to live anymore🤦‍♀️

I’m praying this won’t be me. I just had had two plates and screws done 2 weeks ago c5-6 c7-t1. I didn’t even know I had spinal cord compression until the mri was done. My initial complaint leading me to seek help with tremendous pain in both my hands. I also noticed my gate was off at times only on my right foot at times. So a nerve conduction test was done and that Dr. Requested I get a mri in which I did showed the compression and bulging of spine. Same Dr. also confirmed I had moderate to severe corporal tunnel as well in both hands along with MRI findings. My question now is I have soreness and mild pain that settles in my shoulders and sharper pains shooting in my pinky and ring fingers. I never had pain in my neck, shoulder prior. Can you explain or is this normal?
