Air Compressor Noise Comparison

This video compares the noise levels of my old air compressor (Husky VT6314, 88 dB) and my new one (Champion VRV5-6 (81 dB). I had no idea that it would be possible to nearly double the CFM while also substantially slashing the noise level. For reference, consider that a typical walk-behind lawn mower is about 85 dB.

If you wanted a more tolerable sound level in your garage, try adding sound absorbing panels to the walls near the compressor. You'll get less reflected sound. Hanging one above the compressor will help too. Some people just build a sound cabinet (like you did for your shop vacuum) or relocate their compressors to a shed outdoors.
