I always had such a crush on Paul Glaser from Starsky and Hutch. This was one of my favorite episodes looking back. Of course, they were and still are ALL my favorites! This entire show will always hold a special place in my heart. It always took me away and it was a feel-good, wholesome show. I'm so glad you started this channel Judy! You bring me joy every time you have your own episode here on RUclips! Thank you so much!

I believe Earl had stated that the Gianninis had come to the Blue Ridge to cultivate grapes for Thomas Jefferson's winery at Monticello. Italy itself did not exist as a single country until after the US Civil War, instead being collection of kingdoms, duchies, republics, and the Papal States through the time of Napoleon
I've always been curious as to how the Gianninis ended up Baptists vs. Roman Catholic.

One sweet episode in where Olivia Walton went on to feel free as bird, fulfilling her wish to fly on a plane. The good man to make it happen was none other than Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky) of Starsky n Hutch fame. I didn't know that he belonged to a long list of TV stars that entered through the doors of the Waltons' loving and welcoming house. I was surprised to see him there. A great episode that I cherish. Just looking at Ma Walton's face light up and her smile as she is in the air plus, all of your faces Judy, with such joy as you all see your mom having a wonderful time, was priceless! Thank you for another episode that's full of nostalgia. Keep 'em coming. ❤🙏🏼

The Air Mail Scandal of 1934 about decimated the Army Air Corps. Due to budget cuts from the Depression, the planes they were flying were in worse shape than the commercial airlines that eventually became United, TWA, and American, lacking all-weather flying gear and radios, etc.

I always thought it was so interesting that the family was eating spaghetti in this episode. I thought it was funny that a family living on a mountain with a very small general store would have access to spaghetti noodles and also know how to prepare them! I love how the Walton family always encouraged, helped and influenced for the better anyone who came into contact with them on the mountain in such a positive way. Glad Olivia got her ride on that airplane and got those feelings of boredom out of her system. Fun fact: I remember a couple other episodes where Olivia also felt the same way (The bicycle, The rebellion) but only one of John going off to work and meeting Mrs. Champion (who starred on the Andy Griffith show as Peggy).

This was so interesting, Judy. I remember watching the Air Mailman show numerous times. I loved that it showed a side of Olivia that she rarely displayed, making her 100% human. Reminds me of the episode where she took her easel and went outside to paint. There was a lot of depth to her character. She was one of the most forgiving, yet one of the most stubborn. (The recipe 🙂). Thank you again for your efforts. You are beautiful! Hope you are enjoying your new home! 💜

Another episode that really shows Olivia’s range of emotions is The Venture (end of Season 3). Her stubbornness is fully displayed when she is arguing first with John (about his overworking) then when she insisted on staying at the hospital.
Later you see her sense of being humbled, and feeling helpless, when she goes out to find a job and is interviewed about her work skills, in the scene with Michael Learned and Herbert Anderson (best known as Henry Mitchell on Dennis the Menace)

    • @vikkibyington3066
      @vikkibyington3066 3 года назад +1

I remember those as well. Rem when John bought her the beautiful green dress for an elegant lady? Olivia became employed at the dress shop but I can’t recall if it was on the same episode. She out did herself when the two little English children landed at her house. That was one touching scene! The other one that always gives me chills was when Harley was arrested. John went to meet with President Roosevelt re: Harley’s situation. John was able to seek the help he needed but FDR passed away shortly after and all the Waltons got up sometime in the darkness to pay tribute to the President. All you could hear was the train wheels on the tracks….then there was the sight of a flag draped casket seen through the train windows. Beautiful story line!

The poetry is what I remember most about this episode as well as the episode where A. J. Covington comes and thinks about settling down on Walton's mountain, where The House With Nobody In It was recited. And no one can forget John-Boy reciting Little Orphant Annie to Elizabeth and Jim-Bob in The Carnival, nor his reciting Song to Amarantha while taking out Elizabeth's braids. My three boys each chose one of those poems to recite in school on poetry day, and I'm proud to report that, no small thanks to The Waltons, they each received an A for their recitation!

Combination of the Hollywood Magic, and the fact that a good majority of people who grew up in the 20's, 30's, & early 40's frequently walked to the store or home to lunch while in school, and thought nothing of it whether it was 3 Miles or 5 miles. And as children are apt to do who do it on a regular basis, they find shortcuts (a different one each time)

That was my father's life in a small textile village in NC from the mid 40's through the 50's. The school in town (not a one roomer like Walton's Mountain on the show) had everything from 1st grade through high school. It was one mile from his house to school, and the difference was where he and his friends and siblings would cut across the railroad track. Even when my dad got a car ('39 Mercury convertible similar to Cindy's) it stayed parked during the school year while he still walked to school.

So many people in the Depression lacked a car that they walked everywhere or rode on or behind a horse, if they had one of those. Most of the country people would have had a horse to help them on the farm. My parents both grew up on farms during the Depression. When you have to walk everywhere, a couple of miles is no big deal. Both my parents had to walk to school and it was quite a long walk.

I seem to recall that in old cowboy films when they wanted to shoot nighttime scenes during the days they used filters that gave the impression of it being a moonlite night.

My Mom remembered having macaroni and stewed tomatoes for family suppers in the thirties. Not sure about the kind of salad we were raised on, because most of the vegetables my grandparents in Northern Maine and probably the Southern Illinois ones as well grew were ones they could preserve. I'm pretty sure my mom really only saw lettuce acting as bed for something cold on her plate growing up ( like jelled fruit salad or potatoe salad)

Judy, Thank you for another great video. I saw the actress Julie Cobb on an episode of The Brady Bunch recently. I also noticed the dress she was wearing in this episode, because I have spotted that same dress on at least four other characters in other episodes of The Waltons. In addition to Sue Cooper in this episode, it was worn at least once by Rosemary Hunter, Patsy Brimmer, Audrey Butler (John Boy’s date in The Ring), and a young woman in church in The Baptism episode. I’ve never seen any of the Walton girls wearing it yet, but I’ll keep looking. Thanks again.

The Air Mail Man was a lovely episode. I loved the scene where Olivia gets into the plane, imagining what it might be like to fly. The camera captures her from behind and I just thought it was a striking angle and brilliant. This episode definitely lands in my top 25 favorite episodes. Cheers and thank you.

I guess the producers didn't expect the viewer to pay such close attention to details like the distance to Godsey's store, and in fact most of the time I wouldn't the first time I saw the episode but some of these episodes I have watched numerous times. That's when I notice the details.

Aside from meeting Radames, I met Paul Michael Glaser in 2017 here in Massachusetts at a Comic Con. I also paid $100 to take a 10 minute car ride in the Gran Torino with Paul and I interviewed him in the car thats now on RUclips. He was born here in Massachusetts and we talked about the Starsky & Hutch series. He was a very cool guy to me and I appreciated his time. If he comes around again and there's another offer for a car ride, ill be there. Thanks Judy for sharing. Its always a pleasure watching your videos.

In this performance, Michael Learned gives us a fleeting glimpse of her extraordinary acting skills. The "alone-ness" handed her far more latitude to develop the character-. She reached into the far recesses of Olivia's mind--places that surprised everyone. This took all of what Michael had to give--Mounting the biplane, her imagined fantasy, the penultimate step as she studied the cockpit, and then how easily and effortlessly she glides from fantasy into reality. And her incredible beauty shows through even more when the cap obscures her hair and all we could see was her face. She moves and carries herself with such elegance and fluidity which spills over into her on-screen persona.
