hey just a word of advice, turtles eat whatever they see basically, so they might start nibbling at the sponge filter which can be bad. Hope you the best with your adorable little guys! Also zoomed has a hatchling formula that's smaller and has more protein that the baby turtles need, and the reason they go in the water to eat is because turtles need water to swallow.

Just some tips from someone who’s had turtles for 5+ Years. 1. Sponge filters are not really going to cut it. Compared to the amount goldfish poo, 2 turtles poo is like a person has done it in your tank 🤣2. I suggest crushing or presoaking your pellets. The zoo med pellets that are that size are typically for 6-8 month olds. Make sure to not only feed pellets. Give them things like blood worms, cooked egg, shrimp and even guppies! Baby turtles eat primarily protein at this age but as they enter adulthood they mostly will eat plant matter so also introduce plants to them (mine personally love collard greens). 3. Consider getting a uvb bulb that stretches across the whole tank. They are more expensive but better for your turtles. They can get more uvb because it’s evenly spread across the tank and has the bonus of lighting up your whole tank. 4. They’re going to grow fast so tank them baby pictures now! 😆

As someone who’s owned turtles for 10 years now; I will say that they require at least 100 times the effort and time your average fish do. When feeding your turtles; or are just around them in general; interact with your hands. Play with them, move them around. Mine love coming up to play with my hands, but my friend who didn’t interact as much isn’t as loved by his turtles. Once again, interaction is key to build a strong relationship with your turtle/s.

Don't know if you already know realized this but what you got were a pair of northern red bellied cooters and they get larger than the average slider 😅
The reason they go in the water is because most aquatic turtles can't swallow on land the water is what pushes the food down their throat.
Also there is no way to tell the sex of a hatchling turtle like that unless the store manager incubated the eggs himself as their sex is dependant on the temperatures that the eggs were incubated at.

hey luke i have turtles too, your small turtles you probably have to feed only once a day. they need water to swallow the food. once they get to palm size you only need feed twice a week. also, you could bring the turtle out onto a bucket for feeding so that you wont dirty the tank water. the food can cause the water to be smelly. just note that the water in the bucket has to fully cover the turtles so that when they capsize they can flip themselves over. feed as much as they can eat in 5 min

If they're gonna be anything like my own turtles I recommend remembering to let them roam out of the tank while they're still small so they get used to being handled. It makes sure they won't get bitey when they're older and bigger in case they need to be taken out of their tanks for anything like checking for injuries or disease. Plus, it's fun to watch them explore! By the way, they love having their shells scratched, you could hold your fingers in place and they'll scratch themselves against your nails!
I'd offer other tips like food and lighting but that's already covered by other commenters.

I do agree they can live in ponds outdoors but not ones that already have wildlife because sliders are extremely invasive and take over so easily and can do alot of damage to natural wild ecosystems that have other species of turtles that are endangered. I used to not have a strong opinion on turtles but now I can say that I love them. They're so cute

Nice! I love your channel, and i can't believe you're got turtles! And just from my experience, they may try to ingest the sand or sponge filter, impacting their intestines. I personaly really like canister filters for turltes, but sponges filters work great too, as long as you protect it with something like chicken wire or a gutter guard 😄👍

They are so cute when they are that tiny. Reminds me of my Red eared slider that my wife got me as a Christmas present two years ago. He was so small and feisty. Still is, he always had a habit of throwing temper tantrums when something upset him and will swim angerly and just mess up all his decorations in a fit. Still does it, just he's now able to do that with his basking area and the drift wood we added to his newest tank. He also figured out how to adjust his basking area so the heat lamp and UV will hit him just so.
