Tex I know you're known for Battletech, but essays like this from someone who's been there and done that are so great to listen to. I'm okay with hearing contrarian opinions, as long as they're backed with passion, fact, and logic. So hearing this is amazing.
Id love to hear more about your views on lots of things. I've got clinical depression as well, and used to treat it with booze and women. Nowadays I treat it with fly fishing and my wife and soon my child. We can find ways to see light in the dark. And it's awesome to know you find ways to keep yourself going. Never stop being you. And remember, for some of us, you're a voice of reason in a world of chaos, fake/overexagerated outrage, and doom scrolling.

You’re meant to give history lectures on the most interesting and untouched parts of history. I had a friend with an accent much like yours who tried (and almost succeeded) in trying to ruin my life. That incident and another one which coincided at the same time and left me a mental cripple. Your videos always helped me, but when I listened to them for a long time it stoked the still fresh memories of betrayal and sadness. After a few years it got much easier, and I forced myself to go back through my backlog of your videos regardless of the trauma response and was finally able to enjoy your videos again. It helped me get over something that tore my life apart as a young man as I was able to replace what I remembered about his voice entirely. You are a very wise and hilarious man. It always astounds me where you pop up as well, like in a battletech channel where you voiced over their combat log and turned it into something truly special. Your fundraisers are also extremely admirable and always support causes that are worth it in a way that isn't tone deaf as well. In a small way you helped me, and I will never forget you for that. Bomb-lances and rocket lances were wickedly effective at killing whales especially compared to simple hand-thrown or gun-fired harpoons, and were especially important for taking on the larger Fin and Blue whales, they're still used today and smaller vessels will still tow the whale carcasses to shore to be loaded onto dedicated slipways or berths to be processed, whereas larger factory ships will process them using onboard facilities including an integral slipway on the stern of the ship.

I think I start to see why it is I appreciate your videos.
I long ago stopped saying "have a nice day" and instead use "may you enjoy your day". This is because one could have an objectively nice or good day, and for whatever reason, be unable to enjoy it. But if one has a bad day, it has the ability to reach such absurdities of objective badness that you can't help but laugh at it, and thus, enjoy it.
Also, if you really want to get into history, you seem like the type that might like the Historical Miniature Gaming Society.

I don’t know if you read comments, but I needed to hear this. I’m very lost, at a crossroads in life where I have agency but no direction, but hearing that last point, of creativity as claiming agency, is something I needed. I have experience with music and art, but I’ve not done much with my skills. I think I’ll either try to get into the modding scene, or make something else, more to create than to get rich. If you’re reading this, thanks for the advice.

I am not good at giving advice, but for what it is worth here is what I found out in my life so far: If you choose love and creativity about most things you will have a much better time with your life. Hate, for instance, is still hate even if someone thinks its for good reasons...

I picked up xenonauts on the recommendation of this video, and installed the mods including the bpl armory. It was glorious. The XENOS SCUM did a base invasion in the second month right when my bpl armory guns were finished, and proceeded to run facefirst into volleys of tommygun and blunderbus fire, died horrendously, and then ran. They have not attempted another base invasion since.

When someone, anyone talks about things they like, or are important and meaningful to them, I'm unable to take my attention away from it.
So much about life is empty of real meaning and feeling these days, but the BPL consistently shows that just being genuine and who you are is far more entertaining then some persona so many people put on to gain success on this over saturated platform. And while Tex, and the BPL have their personas, their bits and skits and funny little characters, there is always the real them inside each and every character and joke. Thanks for being awesome.

I'm glad you mentioned that the Thompson was used as the basis for the design of the M41A Pulse Rifle from Aliens. They also included a cut-down Remington 870 shotgun for the attached grenade launcher, and the heat shield and foregrip from a SPAS 12. I always thought that was cool and wanted to share that tidbit since the subject came up. Thanks for the entertaining video and stay safe out there!

Incidentally the APC from Aliens was an old Hunslett aircraft tractor designed to move large airliners like 747s around, after all the lead blocks (added for traction) and the APU engine was stripped out it was significantly faster and there was enough space in the side compartment that formerly housed the APU to fit three people. It sat in an outdoor lot at an amusement park IIRC and it may have been scrapped after being largely neglected.

Did some googling and happened upon the wiki page for bomb lance as I had never heard of it before and it sounded interesting, found:
"In 2007, Inupiat whalers using a modern bomb lance killed a 50-ton bowhead, kicking off a flurry of research into species longevity when it was revealed that the whale's body also contained fragments of an older bomb lance manufactured back in the 19th century, leading to the discovery that the whale was over 130 years old."
I know Tex doesn't do any of this for admiration, praise or profit of any kind, but the incredible community he has built and supported over the years loves him for it anyways. Even the ones who are a bit too enthusiastic, hounding for the next Tex Talks or whatever their next anticipated thing happens to be. Hopefully you can remember that, you are appreciated.

Tex, the OG X-Com was the first computer game I bought with my own money when it came out, on 3 3.5" floppies. Man, those were the days. That opening intro scene was amazing at the time. I was so bad at it for so long. Eventually just figured out that most of the squad was gonna die and leave a guy in the dropship so I don't loose it too if everything goes south. Also, Lots of explosives. Everyone carried an armed prox grenade when clearing doors. A little "present" if there was something on the other side that popped my guy on the way in. :)

Sir, Space Station 13 and I have some sort of massive disconnect. I don't understand what it is, what I'm supposed to take away from it, or how it's supposed to be... "played"? All I know is that you enjoy it. That's good enough for me. I really have no idea what you mean when you're talking about that game... and it doesn't matter a bit.

I play MUDs, a series of games that for most simply does not exist in the consciousness and for the rest is an artifact long past its lifespan. For the few, so few they are hardly counted: it is a bastion of utterly unique experiences and people I have had the pleasure to inflict my company on. I have played, I have crafted and created parts of MUDs, hell once I was a god of the Sky for a bit (I was terrible, sorry everyone from 2008) and in this very small place for a few people I have enjoyed hiding with you as much as Tex appears to have enjoyed being robust.
    Keep being robust, Tex.
