These are the racks that I use for my fish room. They used to be called Premier Edsal but are now called Edsal Muscle Rack. These aquarium stands are 48in Wide x 24in Long x 72in Tall and are made from steel. They can handle 1000 lb per shelf with a total of 5000 lb. AMAZON (Affiliate link) amzn.to/2C2I6Gu
Hello Kasia! Happy Halloween in this snowy and cold weather! I love these sturdy stands! How many tanks do you have on the racks? Your fish room looks Awesome!
It's nice to see a smaller sized "fish room", with examples of what kind of racks to use, and how to set them up with minimal space. My condo only has room for aquariums on the second floor, so I do need to worry about maximum weight, and amount of wall space. Thanks for the tour. I will be looking at shelving to see if I can set up something similar for my mini fish room.
Finally someone who takes into consideration the total weight being placed on floors. I have often seen videos of people who have extreme amounts of aquarium weight in apartment's. I'll bet a structural engineer would have fits. How could anyone ever be sure what the structural integrity of a building is , especially older ones, without knowing it's specs? If I ever tried that in my apartment the floors would give in. So, my HUD apartment for example built in 1977 only allows ONE 10 gallon.
A Rubber Mallet will help a lot when putting metal racks together, normal hammer will leave dinks. Your self built wooden racks look great, love the wood stain color.
Thank you so much for sharing with us. I have watched a crazy amount of videos on racks for tanks and I love the way you set up yours the most, and am going to model mine very similar to yours. I love the idea of being able to have multiple sized tanks and also how you used the wire rack to tie up your lights. It’s a brilliant idea! 💕
I have the same rack set-up just not with the wiring but with the wood. I sprayed the wood down with waterproof sealant before putting it together and I now have it as my 40-gallon rack. I plan on putting two 10 gallon tanks on the bottom and using the shelf above the 40 gallon as a storage shelf for fish food, supplies etc. It seems to hold pretty well. I got it from Walmart for $45
Weight of water doesn't change with temp. What you have is what you have. Density does so volume fluctuates but mass doesn't. (Science teacher in me). Well framed and thought out in your supports. You are right higher floors probably have less load bearing supports. Rule of thumb is each gallon of your tank weighs ten pounds with rock, substrate, aquarium, lighting and water.
She was still technically correct, from a certain point of view. If you measure out a gallon of water at 80° it will weight less than a gallon measured out at 50°. Although I suspect the difference would be well below the detection threshold of any instrumentation I have access to.
Thank you for sharing your experience with these racks. If you have some touch up paint, maybe sand the parts of the wood shelves around the edges of the tank a bit now? I would just cover any tanks below and do it carefully. Because it would be driving me nuts too. ;-)
Yeah I know, it was snowing a lot here in Kansas Wednesday and yesterday morning. I’m moving all my tanks, fish and “shrimpies” in December back home in Florida. This gave me an idea that I can use when finish the move so the cat can coexist with the water friends. Probably cat in the first layer then fish in the upper ones. Stay safe this winter and keep the good work.
Oh my gosh. After doing all my research I recently just ordered the exact same Edsal muscle rack as you! The same dimensional and everything. What a funny co-incidence that you were using the same one and made this video just as my two racks arrived!
Thank you so much I have been looking for over a year for information on the type of fish tank racks that I have seen on multiple channels even left comments asking what type of racking system is used and can they show them. I get people talking about them but never ever showing in great detail. I need to see to understand and am paranoid that racks I buy will not be strong enough. I live in the UK I know I may not find the exact one (because I know that that one will be strong enough) I can now move forward as I now know what I am looking for.
hey!! ive been doing alot of research with different stands and this video you made very much helped me!! Thankyou for posting this!! I also live on a third story apartment, but only have 60 gallons total due to my own paranoia... i totally get it. Thanks again!
Thanks for all the information. The racks look nice in the room. I am looking to purchase one of the heavy-duty wire racks for a 5-gallon and 10-gallon tank to be placed along with some books and plants. It is good to know that I should sand the plywood before painting, and maybe use a semi-gloss or gloss finish to help with cleaning?
Kasia...those racks looks strong....glad your landlord is understandable...where do you live again..snowing..here my area.... we are getting lots of rain and wind...temps 55-70 very strange weather indeed...love snow bring some here....so the betta finally got his name..Mr Sparkle....suits him. Enjoy your tanks.
if anyone els wanders. 100gallon is ruffly 380l which means the water alone is about 380kg. usally its used around 3kg or more in substrate so i would say the rack is above 400kg.
SNOOOOOOW!!!!!!! in October, where are you, highland New Zealand?? LOL Kidding, I'm in NZ, and the weather is actually bitching at the moment, but we do sometimes get snow in October and it's even snowed in December before. But I moved to the temperate north years ago and i'm ready for SUMMER beech!! Thanks for the tips tho actual, I have been thinking about shelving options and now I know, START FROM THE GROUND UP
I agree, better safe than sorry. Well done. Maybe for the wood in front of the tanks take some black contact paper/shelf liner and cut to fit that area to make it smoother and easier to clean for now.
So are the wood boards under the tanks just sitting on a metal lip/edge, or did you keep the wire racks under the boards too? I looked into this set up but lots of negative review for even the strongest 'muscle racks' racks from this brand saying the metal edges supporting the wood will flex and fail with even half of the weight they are rated for. IDK maybe they used to make them better... I would be so worried about this not being level sitting on those pieces of wood on top of a soft surface (carpet) - I hope that wood is thick enough not to crack under that weight.. I think I might have to just try to build my own wood stands, but I'm not a woodworker. I wish there were more affordable stand in different dimensions out there on the internet for sale, but there's really not :-/.
Your fish room is looking great, Kasia. The heavy duty racks are awesome for folks with MTS. That snowy scape outside your window, pretty, but Brrrr, way too cold for me. 👍💕👍
The rack looks nice! The thing that scares me is the piece of wood you put under the legs. It looks as if you bump into the rack or if there is some shaking of some sort the wood could split and make the shelf twist. Not knowing how the leg actually is on the board. Probably just me but still seems like something to think about. I would try to find a welding shop and get some steel plates of that size for under there..) probably just my paranoia tho )... Ohhh I so do not miss the snow. So Glad I moved south lol.
Everything looks so beautiful in your fish room, ideal! I was struck by the way in which, in addition to aquariums, you added indoor plants, could you please tell me which plants you chose to grow near your aquariums? I'm interested in what kind of light you have to provide for the plants that I would like to grow next to the aquariums in my rack. Thanks!

Have any older videos showing the wire rack setup? just got one today and I’m pretty sure i’m going to return it. wanted it to house 2 6 gallons cubes and a ten at the bottom but the clips for the shelves keep slipping out of the grooves :/
hey! still loving the fish room, dusty racks or not lol. what size tanks are the two on that shelf on the right? the ones above the 3 tens and 2 fives? I have the same sized rack as you, wondering what i can put on them that will cover almost the whole surface. c:
ALSO... do not DO NOT use yogamatts or aquarium matts on glass tanks which has a rimmed bottom. the rim keeps the pressure off the bottom panel. the matt will sink in the areas where the rim is causing the pressure on the bottom pane which can cause it to shatter. Aquarium co op covered that in one of their live streams. no rim - safe to use matt rim - not safe to use matt.
I've recently been thinking of doing the same thing for our 75g. It came with an ugly, archaic wood stand and canopy. The canopy is in the landfill and the stand does not inspire confidence. I like the sturdiness of the metal racks, but their aesthetics leave a bit to be desired.
They are definitely not pretty..but in case I had to to move...I can at least take them apart and move them much easier. I had to pick the more practical option. In the future...if I buy a house I would love to make really nice stand...aaah...dreams
@@CreativePetKeeping I'm sure there's a way to make them less ugly. And it wouldn't be a real concern if it wasn't a display tank. But the peace of mind is worth it, I think.

@creativepetkeeping Is there a muscle shelf that is designed for less weight like two 16 gallon tanks? The link you provided is not anywhere near my weight capacity lol. I wish I can have that many tanks.
I have these and it couldn't hold my 36 gallon. The whole thing bowed and bent the metal frame 😭 I can't find anything that's 48" width to stack multiple tanks
Dang it the first shelf u showed and said it was your starter shelf which now holds your plants I was about to order that because another RUclipsr recommended it for nano tanks and 10 gallon max what do u think anyone’s input is welcomed I need help going forward

2:49 I find using an old tooth brush works well with the stain and it leaves behind no cloth residue
I like to put shelf contact paper on my wood. Keeps it water resistant, and easier to clean!
Thats brilliant...why didnt I think of that
I use 12x12 self-stick vinyl floor tiles on the wood. I have the same shelves and love them!
Contact paper isn't going to waterproof anything

Hello...Rack 🤔🤔ok 👁👁
Lol
Wouldn't a brush work for the dust? How much was it Kasia? The rack.
Can you do a video ranking every plant you have from worst to best?
You should just move on the first floor next time so you don't have to worry about the weight of tanks as much as you would on higher floors.
Do you think those edsal racks would hold a 37 gallon (bottom), 20 gallon (middle), and 10 gallon (top)?
plus the wight of gravel ect AND the tank itself
Thats so true!! I didnt even factor gravel, rocks, glass, equipment. Weight adds up fast.
What lights do you use for racks like that
Good:-)

In strong shaking they will fold up like

down to the foundation with 3/4" anchor
bolts. We don't use glass aquariums,

How does your floor hold up?
So far I have not fallen through 😄
Is there metal racking under the wood?
Yes
Thank you! Hoping to get one of the racks or a rack similar for my fish!
How to you have room to plug all of the equipment? I'd like more tanks but I'm worried about electrical safety and the amount of outlets I'd need
I have these and it couldn't hold my 36 gallon. The whole thing bowed and bent the metal frame 😭 I can't find anything that's 48" width to stack multiple tanks
I wish I had seen this before I got my wire shelving. Now I'm afraid to use it. 🙁
washers LOL
Dang it the first shelf u showed and said it was your starter shelf which now holds your plants I was about to order that because another RUclipsr recommended it for nano tanks and 10 gallon max what do u think anyone’s input is welcomed I need help going forward
It’s unavailable now :(
lol
Good video, but it had like 15 ads...what the heck
Really? I'll have to check. RUclips auto adds their ads sometimes and really over does it
