Important note regarding Lore: Something to bear in mind as you watch the show is lies are an intrical part of the world.. sometimes the show will tell you one thing and then contradict itself which can get confusing but it all makes sense when you factor in who is talking and to whom. For instance in class the highschool teacher tells the students the 2nd impact was due to a meteor striking the earth which we then find out was a lie and was actually the (partial) awakening of Adam that caused the explotion. Commander Ikari and Ritsuko seem to have the most information followed by Kaji (though he speaks very little so we dont really know how much he knows but he clearly knows more than Misato). Sometimes commander Ikari will say one thing when addressing shinji or the general NERV employees and then say another thing when talking just with Prof Fukutsuki. Its understandable that what he said previously was a lie and he is tellkng the truth to fukutsuki. There are layers upon layers of lies (not so much unlike the real world). It can get very confusing very fast.

Also, it is important to remember that just because a character believes something, doesn't necessarily mean that belief is accurate.
Shinji WAS talking to the angel confirmed. When he was talking to his child self on the train, his child self is wearing a shirt with the same black and white striped pattern as the angel.
That is the same shirt that child Shinji is wearing in the memory of being abandoned. Not saying your wrong, but your evidence for it is flimsy at best.

In the “Red Cross Book” (the theater program for EoE) there’s an interview with (I think it was) the director, who directly stated that they wanted to have episode 16 be the first time an Angel directly communicates with humans, but that it would be strange to simply have it talk, so they represented Leliel as the younger Shinji.
No matter how many times I see it Eva 01 tearing out from the angel has to be 1 of the coolest moments ever! It reminds me of a birth & baptism. Also I believe this is the first time an angel tries to make contact. The younger shinji even has a stripe shirt similar to how the big orb looks. Can't wait for more!
I suppose you could also argue that the previous angel, which infiltrated the Magi supercomputers, might have actually been the first one to attempt some form of contact (or at least information gathering).
misato's monologue is one of my favs, too relatable and says a lot about how she copes with the trauma of surviving the 2nd impact

I've watched quite a few different reaction videos for this show, but I think these are probably my favorite. The discussions before/after each episode continue to be a lot of fun and Josh's enthusiasm is downright infectious, but at the risk of sounding nostalgic/sentimental, there are a bunch of moments that almost make me feel like I'm watching this series for the first time.
This is where the series realy switches into high Gear, It's a bumpy ride from here on out.

Episode 15 was the first I saw from NGE and it hooked me immediately. Second half of the series is just superb.
Now we start the best run of episodes in any anime. Gonna be a blast!
when the Eva comes out of the darkness there is a reference to this scene in the Intro of the chainsaw man
Yes they need the "umbilical cord" and they have had it since episode 1... but they have disconnected it... remember how they ran out of power that one time right after they killed that double angel in sync? we have seen them remove the cable multiple times and start a timer...
The thing about the rag that reminded Shinji about a mom is probably just that she seemed comfortable and like she knew how to do house chores unlike most kids...
That walk home is really missing “Fly Me To The Moon”, badly.

What Gendo seas in Shinji is not gone into in the series. But Rebuild 4 has a whole sequence dedicated to it.
The fun part about the Ender's Game thing is that was him trying to do something so outrageous and unthinkable that he would fail the test.
It might be late, but Rei has blue hair because she's portrayed as a person with albinism, she's really pale, without pigmentation. Thus the red eyes and the white (very light blue) hair

Yes the dub is better than I thought, it’s just that the original is INSANELY GOOD, hope you watch the Japanese version sometime. Would love to see that too😂
What later refilled in the official manga is the story of Kaji: He was an orphan with his brother after 2nd impact and his brother died for stealing food from military. He had no choice but to join the spy project later to live and his trouble free personality were all acting until he met Misato. They really love each other but in the original Tv show there's no time and budget to dig deeper into that part. Hence later in the remake film they decided to give Misato a son who has the same face as his father, as a testament to the love between Misato and Kaji.

At about the 22:44 mark, you remark that we don't know how old Shinji was when his mother "was removed from the situation." Actually, we know that the story takes place in the year 2015 and we're told that only fourteen year olds are compatible with the Evas. That would mean Shinji was born right around 2001.
If you recall the scene at the cemetery, the headstone at Yui's gravesight lists the year she died as 2004. So if my math is correct, that would mean Shinji was somewhere between three and four years old at the time.
epi 15 was tough and real, i kinda like not having an angel battle all the time. I guess Kaji earned some of my respect and Misato' confession hit me. Asuka is... young but im starting to understand her. epi 16 kinda blew my mind
The Eva's are like these huge ass machines in a world that due to the second impact isnt as technology advanced as it should be. Basically they haven't been able to build big enough batteries (due to a lack of both new inventions in the last nearly 2 decades due to most efforts going to repair a third of the world and from a lack of recourses and funding) to keep them running on their own. Hence why there was that one episode with that rival company suggesting running them on nuclear power. The internal battery that they do have can only hold enough electricity to run an Eva for 5 minutes because of the huge amount of power these things need and because of this theyre using electric caples most of the time.

11:42 I might be late to reply but Asuka left running after kissing Shinji is caused by guilt and some sort of PTSD. She's like thinking Shinji might have liked her and even if she did hate Shinji at first she was searching for someone to care for her. She did initiate that kiss to see if Shinji would make a move in that kiss and saw him inhaled after (because he's suffocating) and she took it as some sort of resistance thus making her run and regret kissing him.
My god this dub. And the way Netflix removed Fly Me to the Moon from the Kaji-Misato scene. URGHHHH.

This Netflix dub sucks. Maybe I’m just getting old, but the ADV dub had character and depth. And without Bart Howard, forget about it.
It has genuinely been hard to watch reactions to certain scenes and episodes when everyone is watching a dub that so many older fans (and newer fans like myself) didnt even watch. A lot of it just doesnt hit the same as the ADV dub, so it feels like we're watching two entirely different shows.

12:09 asuka didnt go to the bathroom and gurgle mouthwash because shinji tasted bad or she hated him askua wanted shinji to push her further and try to kiss her more or be more asseritve and when he didnt she showed her only way of defense which is acting as if she didnt care she does this numerous other times in the show not just when it comes to romantic type scenes.

Totally know what you mean. Yeah, it's definitely not a one for one comparison. It's mostly just the children being used by adults to fight an 'alien' threat that neither fully understand that keeps reminding of it. It's also been a while since I've read the book 😬

I have to say, I don't think most of american dubs are good when you compare it to other countries and of course the original ones and I was a bit spectical at first but this is a very good dub overall. Is it a new dub made for netflix?
ADV dub sounds corny. Netflix dub is better and more accurate to the Japanese.
