Interstellar. That movie has a few different scenes that really tug at your heart strings. First moment where Matthew Mcconaughey's character is leaving earth to save it and his young daughter who he holds a close connection to feels like her dad is abandoning her and won't say goodbye to him. When Mcconaughey's character encounters a massive time difference when he is in outer space and he finally gets a message log from his kids; who are now all grown up and are older than he was when he left earth. And lastly, who could forget that scene where Mcconaughey becomes stuck in another dimension that is made up of past memories of his life. And it cuts back to that first sad scene in the movie where his daughter won't say goodbye to him and Mcconaughey starts screaming trying to talk to his daughter through this other dimension "Don't let me leave Murph!" How gut wrenching 😥
Then he finally arrives back to earth like 80 years later to find that his daughter is still alive but an old frail woman who insisted on being in cryo sleep because she knew her dad would eventually come home... Then I think something along these lines were spoken by him to his daughter, "No parent should have to bury their child".... That hits the hardest

It's the other way around - she tells him to go away. She has her family. It's the reversal that nails people. Her first words to him is that she knew he would come back - her Daddy promised. In that moment, she's that vulnerable little girl again. That moment was why she went into cryo. Yet she decides how much time to spend with him and sends him away. She's dying yet has the strength to let him go which she couldn't do as a child. Her life experience as a parent and great grandparent outweigh his. His sacrifice enabled her to save the human race and live that long life. She understands that his life was to get back to her but now he has no mission; once she dies, no purpose so she gives him a new mission - find Brand, love, live. In that moment, she's no longer speaking as child to him but as an elder.

I cry at so many films, I can't even keep track anymore! I'm like Javier Bardem in that way.
What I do know is the film that I cry the hardest and the most at: Blood Diamond. That film with Leonardo Dicaprio was so riveting, so powerful and so very bittersweet. I loved it so much. I've seen it four times now and every time, like clock work, I full-on sob at like 4 different parts in the film. HE SHOULD'VE WON THE OSCAR FOR THAT PERFORMANCE!

I cry at a lot of movies, my family thinks it's hilarious. But quite a lot of films starring Dakota Fanning get me everytime. .. man on fire...Charlottes Web. ..and especially.... now is good . Darn she's good at pulling on my heart strings.

    1. Sophie's Choice - in the end, when she has to choose between two little children... so tragic and desperate, you must have no heart if you're able to keep it together.
    2. City Island - the scene towards the end when they are all together and the truth comes out, and they accept each other, very touching
    3. Good Will Hunting - 'it's not your fault', don't know why but gets me every time.

I've refused to watch Sophie's Choice because I've heard what it's about - and just learning that made me cry. It made me think of my own 2 children (boy/girl twins) and contemplate what I would do in that situation. It made me cry harder and made my physically ill just thinking about it. Horrible.

@@weberv41 When I had my daughter, I used to watch movies while breastfeeding at times. Turns out Sophie's Choice isn't the best movie to watch while being a new, vulnerable Mom.... At that scene I just started screaming hysterically, my husband had to rush over to turn the movie off.

i heard about this movie for a long time. I knew Meryl Streep won an Oscar for it but I never knew what the story was about. So when it was on Netflix, I decided to watch it out of curiosity. The movie was beautifully done but it was so heart wrenching! 😭 I bawled my eyes out and my heart dropped to the ground. Btw Bravo Meryl for that amazing performance 👏👏👏

Brave. The connection Merida develops with her mother, and near the end when she thought she lost her mom forever, and hugs her tight telling her how much she loves her. Being that close to my mother myself, that scene always wracks me with sobs.

Inside Out - the scene where Sadness takes control near the end of the movie. As someone who finds it difficult to express her emotions and/or often hides them, I found it very relatable. Also, when both Sadness and Joy create a new memory together. That was definitely a happy cry. It showed growth and maturity in that character, which I thought was a lovely moment.

The most recent movie that made me cry was Inside Out. Two scenes for instance: where Joy cries in the memory dump while looking at the core memories. The big scene that got me more was when Riley returns to her house when Sadness takes over the core memories. I started crying when Riley cried about missing her old life and her parents comforting her. Very well directed and emotionally engaging.
