    These are the videos I like. The videos where you are a very learned man, with great stories to tell. Where the story is actually more important than you, and yet it would not be the same story with out you telling it. I wonder what videos and what experiences you would share if you did not have to treat it as a job, putting out videos to keep the subscribers happy and the Patreons, and the cash flowing in. Do you ever think that you would like to just go and have experiences you did not have to share? Nor spend hours editing? I hope that life treats you as kindly in the future as it has in the past. What a wonderful life you have had, the things you have seen, the roads taken. This in my opinion is why anyone follows you at all. To hear of a possible life that is not attainable to most of your viewers. an old golden time, that will never be quite like that again..If I didn't own a classic Range Rover I would never have heard of you. It is nice to see where the legendary vehicles may have gone, if only to imagine that we were there. Thanks to you I get to do just that. Traveling along with you listening to the stories and seeing the vehicle in it's proper environment, with all it's inherent issues and those that come along with it's age. Reality, Thanks again for that.

    • @4xoverland
      @4xoverland  3 года назад +67

      John. You are also learned, may I say. That is real insight into my world. I love what I do. And I do what I love. ut doing it as a job does change things, and as I get older, I'm appreciating being in the wild, and on the road even more. And I hope its coming through in the videos. In my early years it was 'pure' because there was no business attached to it, but for over 20 years now, I've managed a good balance of love for the job, and the income streams it must support. Thanks for your comment. I needed it after the battering I endured this week. I give my shows for free but that doesn't mean those who get the free stuff don't attack me when I try and pay for the free stuff I'm giving them. It's almost comical. But also unpleasant.

    Railway enthusiast here. The train you passed was known as the "AK Cars" - and the locomotives are older than your Range Rover by about 10 years! The purpose of the carriages is to record the condition of the track so that any maintenance can be carried out (with some crew accomodation as well). Locomotives 42103 and GM22 entered service in 1966 and 1962 respectively! That style of locomotive with rounded noses is known as a "Bulldog". The carriages are ex-Southern Aurora (old Melbourne to Sydney train) stock dating back to the 1960s as well.

    Hello Andrew. I am really enjoying this series, and I am really happy for you that you found this Range Rover.
    I was just watching Doug DeMuro, and he is reviewing the Suzuki Jimney. I remember that you really got a kick out of one that you rented, and that you were happy to see that a real 4x4, with a transfer case, and solid axles was still being made. Doug noted that this year, dealers in Mexico were allotted 2000 Jimneys. When they went on the market, they were sold out in 7 minutes!
    Tell me that the world doesn't want a simple, cheap bare bones off-road capable vehicle.

    Motel rooms… they just become mind numbing “beds in boxes”. A couple of colleagues and I have resorted to a game of working out how many times we walk into the same stock standard decor in motel rooms around the country. Somebody made an absolute fortune from selling hundreds of acres of only four different fabrics for motel bedspreads used in almost every regional Australia motel.

Consider taking the short side trip just after Panong near Ceduna to Cactus Surf Camp it’s been a Surfers Desert Destination as it may have some basic amenities since the 60s and a famous Australian Architect Conservationist and Journalist named Paul Witzig lived there for many years to preserve its . I hope it’s being looked after today . It’s about 25 or maybe 30 minutes to the Coast .. Of course it’s more popular during spring through to mid autumn . Weather here in Perth is looking clear and with cold early mornings for your home stretch .. Good luck . John Perth

    I must confess that your videos and story telling are a big part of what got me to leave the USA and pursue a career in safari guiding and travel. Your stories certainly kindled in me a desire to go and do the adventures I have always dreamed of doing, rather than let those "impractical" dreams grow dusty like an old adventure novel sitting on a shelf. Perhaps the ultimate sign of your beautiful story telling is that it has inspired at least of few of us to change our lives. So while I cannot speak for anyone else, I do want to say thank you Andrew, for helping me to get out the door and on the road to what has become the best adventure of my life. Keep up the good work. --Josh J.

    Enjoying this ride-along series indeed. Another great one in the can, Mr. White.
    I've always held a bias against old British off roaders. And while this series doesn't change my position on the matter, it's strangely satisfying to notice that our faces carry the same expression at times.
    "Will it start?"
    "Will it break?"
    "What was that?"
    Shamefully too I admit that we may - at times - be hoping for opposing answers to those questions. Just want the ol'e Rangie to represent itself. lol

    I did the Eco trail with a 1,7T offroad and with being in Low Range day after day, I blew through 200L of diesel as my D4D was only getting 4,5km/l(23L/100km)
    Every place we heard was suppose to have fuel did not…
    After 5 days and crawling at 40km/h we pulled in (on fumes) next to an above ground diesel tank

    Put a cable tie on the seat belt at the top to stop it retracting in tightly...

    • @AnthonyIlstonJones
      @AnthonyIlstonJones 3 года назад

      Not sure how that works in Australia, but in the UK that would be an MOT fail. Inertia reel seatbelts (invented by Nils Bohlin whilst he was working for Volvo, iirc) are designed to tighten in the case of a collision, keeping you attached to the seat (and therefore safer). This is also why a lot of people in some European countries carry a seatbelt cutting knife in their cars, so they can help remove people from a vehicle that's been in an accident before a worse accident occurs (such as fire, or subsequent impact from someone driving to fast to stop in time).
      A better solution is one of those pads you can buy to go on the seatbelt that are designed to spread out the pressure caused by a retracting seatbelt in the vunerable collarbone area. While not perfect they will reduce the discomfort.

    Greetings from West TX! A follower of your 4Xoverland channel and a patreon for years. Our Hilux LN 106 also notorious for front axle oil seal leaks. I ended up installing an oil seal made by Marlin Crawler and now the issue is no more. Hope you get to see my comment!

    Road tripping across Australia. Telling stories. Fanstastic. Music and filming quality is 2nd to none. Im a new subscriber so bare with me. But i do understand the issues with youtube..personally i have premium account so veiwng for me is seamless. But have you thought about doing a sponsorship reads inside the video? See allot of youtubers controlling their content / advertising revenue by doing this. Must be allot of related brands that you support willing to be involved in your adventures. I would personally have no issues listening to sponsored read knowing its supporting your next adventure

      I've been offered them. I means I must bore you with a minimum of 40 seconds of every video, promoting a product. It's a bad as advertising!

      @@4xoverland yep fare enough that is allot of time to disrupt your video. Personally if I was watching one of your feature length videos I would have no issues with 3 or so of those reads at start knowing it all went to you and not youtube. But I am by no means speaking for anyone else. Thanks for response. I'm glad I found your channel

      @@4xoverland Speaking for myself I would watch ads for stuff you like/recommend and I hate ads, it's the reason I stopped watching commercial television.
      I actually like the products that are promoted by the smaller local manufacturers on some channels but the shotgun approach of others, not so much.
      If you could bring some personal flair to it as well it could be good.
      This won't pay much towards your costs but I have to say that this series with the storytelling and anecdotes/history has been excellent imo.
      I am getting a bit over all the channels who trash their equipment at all the same places or have become product placement services.
      I'm not sure how you balance all of this tbh but if just watching isn't financially beneficial then I will unsub. as I don't like to take advantage of anyone's time.

    What's your opinion of the falkens mate? Have done 50k in mine now with a fair bit of off roading and alot of highway ks and love them!!! Still got well over half tread left too. I have done the Melbourne to Perth trip alot in trucks and it never stresses me however in a vehicle of this age I think it would be a far more entertaining adventure I just find it boring these days.
