I did a trip from tassie to Perth in a rough as guts 82 shorty 40 in 06, no air con windscreen wiper motor broke in torrential rain outside of Kimba, rust holes in the floor, transport police nearly not letting continue at iron knob, dodgy characters at roadhouse trying to get a lift. Last leg of the journey was 16 hrs without turning it off by the time me and the Misso got to Perth this little 4 cylinder diesel was tapping like crazy with smoke pissing out the bonnet...when we parked it up at my old mans it never started again...it was cooked GOOD FUN! Enjoy the journey guys🙏
To save money take the 12 volt and touring stuff outta the lux and put it in the troopy turn the troopy into a touring setup and the hilux into a serious 4wd.
I bought one of the first HJ47 Troopcarriers brought into Oz in November 1980. Loved that truck and I put well over 600,000ks on the clock. Me son killed it. So I bought another Troopcarrier (92 model HZJ75) and put over 600,000ks on that one too. Troopcarriers are da bomb.
@@OverlandTravellers Yep, so in effect I have only had 2 daily drivers since 1980. Have saved a massive amount by not having to trade in every few years I reckon.
I have an 84 in my garage ex army been parked for 20 years just after I replaced the head diesel 4.2 11 seater. She’s got the army green under the beige it was my bros and like the LC GTR torana he pulled it to pieces lost interest and said you can have it. I don’t have kids but his second oldest goes missing sometimes and he can always be found sitting in it swinging from the steering wheel he’s sixteen and it is officials his now. He loves the JIG.
Absolutely awesome! I'm still working on my FJ80 but afterwards I'll be looking for one to import to Texas. Also, just came across your channel and looking forward to the build.
Bumped into this channel. I was looking for touring set-up and watched your video on the Hilux, now I'm watching all your videos and subscribed too, very interesting and entertaining.
I love the older vehicles, so much more character than the new stuff and engines that you have half a chance of fixing in the bush. The one thing I don't like is the rust that usually comes with the older ones. Our Coaster is 32 years old and there is a never ending battle to keep the rust under control.
I know this is the same as previous comments but this is so cool for so many reasons. Restoring an old Toyota for touring Australia will no doubt be challenging but I admire your courage and positive attitude to have a go. Can’t wait to follow you both on this adventure. Great work guys.
Great stuff. I had an FJ40 many years ago when I lived and worked around Nowra (Navy.) Sold that when I came back to Melb and now 25 yrs later bought an 80 series wagon and planning on doing lots more much like yourselves. I've got most of the basics tent, stove, chair, wine, a bit of camping gear and will fit out my cruiser as I go.. Your videos have helped me heaps with ideas and places to check out. I continue to watch and see how your new vehicle evolves.
I have just come in from the shed where i've started putting sound deadener in my hj47 troopy. Im getting it ready for a trip on the strzelecki track but every job i start results in 3 more... all part of the 40 series experience. Good luck with yours, i've had mine for 10 years and loved every minute of it.
From the owner of a 37 year old HJ60 Landcruiser you have made a good investment. Now that you haven seen some of Australia ship it to Africa then explore Southern Africa, drive up the west coast of Africa get to Europe and then drive to Mongolia. The HJ47 will be worth more outside Australia than in Australia.
Good luck! If I can do a full body off resto on one by myself (just turned 17 started just before I turned 15) you can. Buy yourself a decent mig welder, watch some RUclips videos and take the time to learn. The Facebook groups are also the best souce of info for them
Wow just wow. That's got to be one of the most insane adventures and decisions. But in saying that the best decisions you could do. Taking that leap into the unknown and chasing the dream. You did it once before with your trip and look how it panned out. Going to say, this next adventure is going to be worth it. Going to love this adventure and build and thank you for letting us enjoy the journey.
I remember many years ago that my grandfather used to have one for surf fishing along the beach. Good luck with the journey and the project - I hope it all goes Ok. Unfortunately a vehicle like that would probably not pass the technical inspection to drive it on roads the over here...
Nice one, I love the 40 series cruisers look forward to seeing how it all comes off for you, I doing up a FJ40 on my 40 Channel. Feel free to check it out.
40 Channel hey mate! I’m already well aquatinted with your channel! Really we presented mate the info you give is top notch..... although I managed to crack my windscreen getting it out 😅 but thanks for the info it really helps out.
Who cares. Puts some love into it and it will give you some adventures. Is this what life is about. I am doing up a old caravan. I sleep in it the same has my next door neighbour who spent 85k. But his lives in his 25k shed.
Guessing you have already left but .. If you are requiring some assistance to look/fix some things before you go I could maybe help you out with some things. As a fellow 40 series lover/owner I'm based in Mandurah and have a half decent workshop with a hoist, welder etc. Send me a message if something you might be interested in guys. Otherwise, goodluck with the trip! Looking forward to seeing the content to come
Endo Tasweegin really appreciate the offer mate! We have since left and it made it to the East but I learnt a lot along the way. Luckily we had Geoff to help. Thanks again for the support hopefully you have fun watching the series and how the car turns out :)
Nice one guys! On a side note, do you still like your oztrail compact chairs? Thinking about buying a couple based on your earlier video recommendations, but wanted to see if your still loving them. Cheers Mark
Mark Jones hey mate! Since then we have been using some new chairs. Same concept in the design, very compact and light from a company called “red roads”. We have the low back version which we actually found more comfortable than the high back. They are of a far better build quality. The oztrail are a little bit cheaper but they started to crack at the knuckle and aren’t as stable as the red roads. Google “A247 Red Roads” chairs and they will pop up :)
Overland Travellers cheers guys, I’ll check them out. I appreciate your reviews, after watching the supapeg awning one you did I ended up buying one and couldn’t be happier with it👍
Matt and Holly your videos are amazing .just keep doing it . I did it for 3years

Western Australia Now and Then yeah mate the only thing that kills these 40’s is rust
Good on you two. Making your own adventures. Good luck and I hope to see you on the road one day. Go get em and live your best life.
Really looking forward to the 47 build, hopefully a few sponsors can jump onboard to help you out.

Looking forward to following the restoration and your travels
This is friggin awesome!! I did the same thing with a 93 defender. Best thing I ever did ;) -Cant wait to see the following build vids! Cheers.
Ditto, 1990 Aussie one with Isuzu turbo diesel. Pre-computer stuff is the best.
Same, Mine's running an Isuzu now that I've done a Perentie chassis swap ;)
Good on ya guys it will become a really nice truck when it’s done 👍

Destination Offroad cheers mate! Yeah it’s highs and lows but it will be very rewarding getting it done ourselves with barely any experience.
@@OverlandTravellers dont need experience, just the willingness to learn and the drive to do it.
Destination Offroad yeah that’s it! It’s amazing what you can do with an internet connection.
@@OverlandTravellers hahaha yes indeed. Following the rip down of the troopy on Instagram. Going well bud.
i am only a quarter the way through your trip vids-this will be great to follow as well-Older vehicles are the best!
