Newfoundlander here, Reik did an amazing job with the Corner Brook, Newfoundland inspired city. I used to live in Corner brook, it's one of my favorite places! The oceanfront papermill is the heart of Corner Brook, with the large built harbor and shipping on the waterfront like that, so I can definitely see why he built it like that. Great job keeping to the spirit of the city!
Nope. I've discussed this on stream a few times, but the two worlds collided a bit and I felt that i was becoming a distraction at work with the YT channel. Post channel, I'll likely go back to school with an aim to teach in the future.

I gotta vote for number 2. The Argentina replica, although it doesn't have the highest population, but still gets my vote. I like how it is so dense in one area and still makes the traffic look great. Great job!
19:16 It's just the time simulation was running. If you pause the game and then do landscaping and detailing you can't figure out. But if they still did it within an hour, this city is very impressive!

We need to do more of these as a community. Genuinely love the differences and workarounds. It feels exciting to me, these types of challenges. I don't know why, but I want more 😅
Based on what you said at the end, this seems unlikely, but I'd love to see a challenge that is purely to do with getting X stat as high as possible. Although I admire how this challenge was designed to be full of difficult decisions, I feel that we need something for _that_ type of person. I am absolutely suggesting this out of the kindness of my heart and not because i have worked out the mathematically optimal one-tile population challenge strategy. In other words, embrace the cheese tactics - _let the cheese wars begin._ edit - I'd like to clarify that i'm not against twists - i am, in fact, all for them - I am only referring to creative twists or things down to opinion.
The first city by Poplar Ponderosa reminded me of Sapporo Odori Park, with a radio tower on one end, and a museum on the other. I went there when they were setting up the tent canopies for their beer festival, and I can definitely see the central boulevard turning into such a place of sorts.

I was born in Corner Brook, NF, and raised in Deer Lake, a half hour away. Seeing the build inspired by my home was lovely. So many similarities with the city, right down to the population. Corner Brook had 25k when I was growing up. It's lost some over the years. But it's still close.
I love that you're doing things to help build up the game's community and appreciate that you've put in links for the participants who've posted videos.
In the future require an un-edited video that shows the entire build. You wouldn't have to watch all 60 min of every video, just make sure the timestamp on the video coincides with what was presented.
I live in La Plata, so I have to go with my city, of course! It's incredibly well done in this one hour build, and I hope you can recreate it in the game too! But the whole city, which has an even bigger park that I'm sure you'll like (the República de los Niños)
Watching your CS and CS2 city build episodes is such a pleasure and is a big highlight of my week (it basically gives me a Sims 4 style Inspirational Moodlett). The review of these builds are insanely awesome tho. I really like seeing how different everyone's build styles are

Im groundZero. I got confused on what visual enhancers meant and assumed it was mods that dint affect the simulation (find it does but i dint plop anything and intended to plop stones on the coastline but dint have time). But regardless im fine with getting disqualified as using find it could mean i used it, would be ridicolus to have someone audit 1hr of gameplay. I really apreciate you showcasing my city even though i broke the rules it really made my day 😄😄 Sidenote i gotta disagree with bending the rules of going to the other island because you never stated anywhere that it was against the rules or was a cheese tactic w😛😛
Haha, wasn’t the other island that was cheese, it was the secondary road access. I was on the fence til I saw that one. Regardless, nice job and I hope you submit for the big one I. A couple months! Basically no rules outside of sticking with the modset that I’ll provide!
Seeing how varied the takes are on the same challenge makes me want to play again and put my own spin on a map. I haven't gotten CS2 yet, but what used to be a long list of reasons for that is pretty much now just one item: bicycles. I'm sure they're on their way eventually and I look forward to playing. In the mean time, I may go back for another run at CS1
Amaaazing! Perhaps if the constraint is time, it makes sense to have the time as being the ingame time, meaning you can pause and think, but manage your money enough make it still work?

Watching this gave me an idea. You should do a video reviewing cities made on the MC map (not ones using your saves though). It would be really interesting to see how other people utilized your map!
Very cool cities! There's a lot to like in all of them, different bits from each. Love the new water tower as a lighthouse especially. I was super please with myself getting to almost 13k pop in my attempt, but also recognized that I was totally outclassed. That took me a few tries. I thought my port would be a great feature, but Reik's really blows it out of the park with the break waters and details in his. Also interesting to see hardly any specialized industries - guess they're just a waste of time when trying to build big fast. Thanks for running the challenge! Look forward to the next one :)
Train infrastructure means an easier entry into the city compared to constant traffic jams. That makes the difference between the first and the third city. Even the first city tram loop is useless. I'd have added a tram to the third city to ensure the train station was linked to the city center...

CPP, Have you looked at the pedestrian bridge mod at all? I am really interested in adding it to my mod list but am still concerned about the issues surrounding custom assets still.
cheating is cheathing. Rule 1 = one island. #4 and #5: you're out. #2 = no transit at all #1 = only trams. Leaves #3 as a clear winner (to me) >> Ring road and seperation for accesroads to the homes, all edges of the island have houses, energy and industry well placed. Loved the winding road up the hill. One remark: I would move the trainstation 'up' and placed it 'south' of 11:38 = closer to town and people.

At first I wanted to make the German train station the main building in the middle of the city, but this asset is too large for that island. So I wanted to build a French city around the French train station but things went a bit different due to the commercial and office demand.
FYI I encouraged growth by subsiding residential taxes at -10% for most of the build time. I only boosted it up to 30% at the end because I wanted to see if I could balance the budget.

Many great cities. My city would've just been chaotic given the time limit. NIce to see so many things being considered like road hierarchy and the topography

Wait, if you're verifying the "one hour challenge" by the in game date, doesn't that mean people could take a lot more time than one hour with all that you can still do while the game is paused? I was curious how the "one hour" part would be enforced without users recording their run.

Actually, It was my 3rd attempt, in the 1st attempt I had not much more than 4000 population. What I can say is the more often you built the city the faster you will be. If the #5 was really built within an hour, he/she has all of my respect. It looks so awesome!
@@l.h.1545 the thing im most suspicious of is how they managed to get high density hosuing as that is only gotten at level 8. In my run (im groundzero) i dint even reach level 8 and you also need time to let them grow. I dont think they cheated and i really would have loved to see how they managed to pull it off
Being from Vancouver, I love me a good waterfront and being from Canada I have to support a Canadian inspired build. REIK it is for me. G87 is a close second. Sorry!
If this game ever comes to console, you need to release this challenge again so we can have a go at it as well 👍 And of course, you would need to do it on console too 😉
So cool that Newfoundland is mentioned!!! I am from that island and it's also pronounces New-fin-land with the emphasis on "New" and "Land" not "found." But it's a common mistake, and I know at this point your not the best at pronunciation 🤣
I love this game but I wish Paradox would fix all the tearing that happens with stuff like roads and paths. I don't want to see the Upside Down anymore

So cool that Newfoundland is mentioned!!! I am from that island and it's also pronounces New-fin-land with the emphasis on "New" and "Land" not "found." But it's a common mistake, and I know at this point your not the best at pronunciation 🤣

I love this game but I wish Paradox would fix all the tearing that happens with stuff like roads and paths. I don't want to see the Upside Down anymore
