A step-up[1] or boost converter (or step-up converter) is a DC-DC converter with an output voltage greater than the input. It is a class of switching power supplies containing at least two semiconductor switches (a diode and a transistor) and at least one energy storage element. Filters composed of combinations of inductors and capacitances are often added to a boost converter to improve its characteristics.
