  • This is one of my longest days to finish. 28 kms from Fisterra to Muxia.
    But as it's my last day I don't mind if it causes an injury, as I don't have any more time left.......
    Muxia was indeed a great place to finish, and the walk was not as hard as I expected.
    This is where I stayed: Apartamentos Costa da Morte Muxia. With a view of the Harbour (see booking dot com)
    60 days on the Camino...........My body tells me it's time to go home!

    My wife and I are currently at Leon, on our very first Camino Frances, and we agree - it’s already getting noticeably busier as we head West. But the sense of community and the energy is like nothing we have ever experienced. Coming here has been the best decision we have ever made. Cheers, Gavin & Amanda.

    Wow!!! What an impressive journey this was. It’s amazing how things work out at the end. You wanted to do the Via De La Plata for solitude just to find out that’s not what you needed. That’s not what we need. We were created to live in “community” and sometimes we forget that, myself included.
    You found Saint James and he gave you that amazing message at the end!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 🏠

    At the end of our Camino in Santiago, we also made an small extension instead going from Muxia to Fisterra, where we finally stopped. We did that leg in two days to really enjoy the walk, taking the time to admire the path, the scenery and all the things along the way.
    It has been said that you can never step in the same river, twice. I think the same can be said of a Camino. Two people will never walk the same Camino, everyone has their own experience, their own point-of-view. Even if you could somehow physically step in the same places, it would be a different time.
    So it was nice hear how you summarized your 60 days. Bravo

    Thanks Rob for sharing your walk to Fisterra and Muxia. I learned a lot from your previous videos before I walked my first 100 km Camino from Lugo to Santiago de Compostela last May while my wife did her volunteer work in Lourdes, France. My next plan is to walk from Santiago de Compostela to Fisterra this December. Then from Fisterra to Muxia after celebrating Christmas in Santiago de Compostela. Since December is rainy season, it will be a cold, windy and wet journey. Thanks again for sharing your invaluable experiences and useful tips on this channel. Buen Camino.🙏😊

      @@robscamino Hi Rob I have not yet walked any Camino. I’m considering doing so next year. Over the last year or so I’ve been following you and a few others. I have a knee replacement and am overweight so I have to commit myself to getting stronger and slimmer. With your knee issues I think you’ve convinced me that I can do it.

    • @robscamino
      @robscamino  Месяц назад +1

      I'm sure you'll do great. If I might be a bit blunt for a moment....... 😳 I walked my first Camino about 15 kgs overweight. I was fat 😳 BMI 30. It nearly killed me. So many foot and joint problems, shin splints and so on. For my 2nd and 3rd Caminos I tried to get my weight lower with limited success. But I was walking with my wife, slower and shorter days. So I managed. For my Camino last year, I knew I wouldn't make it at my regular weight. It just causes too much damage. So I promised myself I would lose weight, and I did. I used Intermittent Fasting which got amazing results. I didn't reach my target weight but I got close. BMI 27. I was hoping to get under 25 into the top of the normal range. I will next time! But that weight loss made a huge difference. It saved my knees. Huge Difference! I basically walked in jury free for 1200 kms. Just an issue on the last day. So for those of us with a weight issue, I say, sure, do a bit of training, but weight reduction is the key. You can always train on the Camino, starting out slow and shorter distances. I always do that. Sorry to labour this point. But it's a game changer!

      I don't think I mentioned it. I actually did a side trip to visit family in France. But essentially I repeated the outbound journey. Flew back to Madrid, stayed there overnight, then next day flew back to Sydney via Dubai.

      Thanx Rob! Were you able you take a train or bus from Muxia into France? We live in Melbourne and were thinking of doing the Frances next year, starting towards end April - our first Camino. Then after Santago, doing the Finistere to Muxia. And if possible, travel to Madrid from Muxia before coming home.

    • @robscamino
      @robscamino  Месяц назад

      OK, sounds like two questions in one there. Or I'm confused, So I'll lay this out. (1) My journey was, Sydney to Madrid to Seville. Walk the Camino to Santiago and on to Fisterra and Muxia. Muxia is a tiny fishing village with a 90 min bus service back to Santiago. (2) My 'simple' return, would have been. Bus from Muxia to Santiago, fly to Madrid, return flight to Sydney. (3) My 'actual' return journey was.... Muxia to Santiago by Bus, fly to Bordeaux. time in Bordeaux. Fly back Bordeaux to Madrid, to Sydney. (4) If you look at www.rome2rio.com/ it's a great initial planning tool. (5) Things to note. (a) Discount airline fares in Europe are crazy cheap. Though look for extra charges for luggage etc. (b) I have used a few such as Ryanair, Vuelling, etc. (c) I look at Ryanair first as they have an extensive network, though not often to major hubs. (d) be prepared to use a range of Airlines. ie. I used Ryan air for Santiago-Bordeaux. and Vuelling for Bordeaux to Madrid. (6) Train from Santiago to France was going to be too long and complicated. But train works well back to Madrid. Just a bit of research required to see what options you have available. (7) To put that into context, I was booking flights last night for next year. I want to use 'points'. So I came up with 2 options. (a) Sydney-Taipei-Tokyo-Helsinki-London or (b) Sydney-Melbourne-Delhi-Paris-London. There are always lots of options to get anywhere! (8) Key point. There are loads of cheap flights within Europe! So your entry and exit point coming from Australia can have lots of options. Hope that all makes sense. If not, please ask.
