Shockwave was kidnapped by Sentinal and reprogrammed into the bot we all love currently. Shockwave lost his emotions while Optimus still has his, but you can see that Optimus holds back just a bit when fighting Shockwave, hoping they could possibly regain their friendship in the future. Optimus will put his autobot's lives before Shockwaves though.
