Getting the Mulitplayer version of the game for free would be better now that they said that State of Decay would be multiplayer but never did.

I have to say the dark shadows of the original create more overall density which adds to the atmosphere (2:18 is a perfect example of that, where you have the sun not high enough to make everything bright so you get that early morning feel which lacks in the goty version where it looks like a hot summerday). Goty has complexer textures etc. Can't argue with that.

I still play it. Breakdoen. I LOVE the Truball Valley Map; uts veautiful, and i think it was a GREAT idea to make it "autumn" in the game. Its so fun to just drive around and kill things and marvel at the scenery.

I know a lot of people say they only improved the lighting, but there's actually more.
There's more particle effects, fog has been added to the atmosphere, water looks better (though still not great), and there's just more optimization.
Original do looks better, but the Year-One edition have better optimized. Original version my GTX970 can't even keep constant 60 fps and the Year-One edition at ultra settings it stays steady 60 fps all the time.
DeadScarify High settings can be improve to 80FPS in GTX 970 and GTX 1050

i liked the darkness in the original way better, it just makes it way more scary. I remember everytime i go out exploring, gathering supplies or doing missions i would always go early in the morning and try to complete everything and go back home before night time, but there are a few times that i actually got stranded or i was a little late and night started falling and everything was legit so dark it was so horrifying and adrenaline pumping, i bumped into ferals a few times too and i was legit sweating irl lol. Imo the darkness is what makes the game because it makes you actually feel scared at night.

I dont think it was as intentional as you think. The limited view distance was more because of the hardware specs of the xbox 360.

Cleaned up code, added many new props and decorations to the world map, such random spawned corpses, and objects,, has volumetric dust (fog) , Enhanced God rays (gamma effected) , Farther rendering distances, Soften shadows, fixed motion blur, added new survivors, heros, weapons, and personalities/skills , quite a bit of bug fixes (though some remain) and some new ones, AI Tweaks, Animations have been smoothed out, and some misc changes to sound and music. And a few new special vehicles with decals hidden around the game- that is all it offers.

The Difference I found Great while testing both games myself is that YOSE had better animations and has improved graphics and has I think a better driving in pc? while in the original version still has some bugs while playing and the graphics i think is pretty dark? or is it just the brightness? and also the Original Version is more playable for lower end pc's than the YOSE version
I wish there was some kind of mod, where you could atleast change the lighting, and animations back to normal.
Cause i noticed, in the original game there's a different jogging animation which looks very cool.

As much as I love this game, I've gotten used to the idea getting free upgrades to game of the year editions when they release (ie: Witcher 3). It's unfortunate that they want people to pay money again for very little change. It's on sale for 50% off right now but I think I'll just wait for State of Decay 2 to come out.

Everyone talking about $28? YES that the base game and BOTH Dlcs and more characters, and things that only applied to breakdown or lifeline is applied throughout all modes...I think its worth it, not sold on the brightness bid but overall I still like it cause SoD was a little dark.
Textures are better, lighting and shadows are better, gore and fire/other effects are better, animations are better(especially with zombies). On top of this, due to the having more memory to work with, there's less pop-in and better detail visible with far-off objects, as well as better environmental detail in general.
I don't know why so many remasters always seem to fuck up the brightness, but a lot more than just the contrast was changed with this release, despite what people commenting here seem to think. 🤷♂️

i feel like the perfect lighting would have been an average between these two. yose is too bright, the original is too dark in many places.
I think it's graphics is much more like comparing Dirt 3 vs Dirt Rally. Much more reality like environment in Year one edition.. Removed unnecessary gamma and now looks like our real world (especially shadows).

Come on.. It was perfect in the original and scaled just fine to 1080p on PC and looked drastically superior to Xbox 360. This new 1year edition really has no difference..

I usually use SweetFX to make games from the left look like on the right at no performance loss... What were they thinking (obviously marketing a re-release for the sake of re-releasing it instead of actually improving it) =/

Robert McLellan Dude. This is the result of Year-One. We use the SAME Display on the SAME machine. Gamma settings are identical, that's what a comparison is about. Creat equal conditions for both versions. I can't compare the game setting one to gamme 1.0 and one to 0.7. That wouldn't be correct given that we use the same setup. COME ON.
