Personally, I'd be looking for a way to get alerts on my phone for the disc cleaner. Wonder if you could rig something with a smart plug to monitor when it powers down.
Something that may help save some time is getting a rolling cart, im thinking of the ones you see in bookstore that employees use to stock the shelf almost like a mini bookshelf on wheels, and have it set up with the same sticker coded condition system per shelf so the games you put back in the cases post cleaning can be put on the cart then rolled over to load the bookshelf instead of carrying a stacks back and forth to load. Mobility and any steps that can decrease unnecessary repetitive movements will save time in the long run. Edit:just googled the cart and they're called book cart or library book cart.
Instead of stickering over existing stickers on each shelf dependant on change of condition, why not put velcro patches on and you can move around easier without wasting /getting stickers everywhere.
Just a thought, you might want to use Velcro with your Coloured Dots, that way you can just quickly change the dots as required. Always remember that in any process, it’s best to only “Touch each item once.”
If you drill and screw a flat top screw where the colored stickers are along the side of shelves, you could then just add stickers to a magnet for easy swapping when needed. The screw head would act as the metal anchor for your magnetic color codes.
@@antoniocordinha7730 have used a similar method for over a decade, no problems yet. The magnets need to be slid off with a bit of force, because they stick flush. They could also go with small neodymium magnets if they fear them falling. Just saves a lot of time. We have a small metal strip screwed to the side where we store all the unused magnets for quick access.
One thing I always say is “ touch the product as little as possible” so if you have it out and in your hand do what you need to do while you have it out. The more you move something the better the chance of you dropping it or it being damaged. Also think about steps. How many steps will you save doing it while you have it in your hand. Less walking= saving time. Love the content!
Personally I found the best way to work with the process of sorting would be to first make stacks on systems as each game cases are better working within a set (ps1, ps2, ps3,.... so on) then multi-disc or single disk, then sort from the case replace or clean, which I have bins for to sort them into, next is check the disks, the ones that need cleaned, put in cleaner the ones that are good go to the shelves. Finally working through what is remaining is the grueling tasks that include case fixed/replaced or completed if needing manual/ cover art and ready for sale. Then working on placement for sale. Then if theirs time left, hot pocket and some funyons. Or more work as the job is never done....
CATRP crew, love the behind the scenes video. You briefly mentioned workflow regarding the shelves, wouldn't it be easier to have all the necessary shelves in the same aisle. I.E. all unprocessed games in the back aisle, all ready to go games in front aisle, empty cases/cases for disc clean in middle aisle. Curious what you guys have in store for this, I am sure it'll work out. Keep up the great work!
I think long term, the process needs to be altered... any inventory that comes in... with regards to games. Needs its own section were cases are swapped, cases are cleaned and deciding on what level the discs need cleaning. From that point it then follows your system upto the point were you then categorise it as ebay, amazon or whatnot... just think it will flow better that way and you leave the dirt, junk and detritus at the door before it enters your stock.
I am sure you know this, but there is "quiet" packing tape. It is marginally more expensive than regular tape or you can get a reinforced paper tape with dispenser than automatically wets the adhesive on the paper tape and spits out a programmed length of tape.
Love it! Well done. Maybe instead of colored stickers, use something like colored washers. It's the same principal, just a bit cleaner. Small ones that dangle at the end of the row on a screw head. Maybe get large, heavier ones that you can place on a stack to clearly show what stack is what on a table. Just my thoughts. Onward!
One of my learnings has been that everything eventually sells on Amazon, and often at a premium to eBay, because so many consumers are only Amazon buyers. Therefore since I have the space (and you do as well now) I list pretty much anything obscure on Amazon, even with a sales rank exceeding 100,000 because I can name my price. For instance, neo geo pocket games many I have the only one listed on Amazon. I don’t recommend having a person’s entire business model be this way but if you have the space it makes sense.
50,000 games and you are listing 500 in a day. So once a week that’s 100 weeks… so you’ll be done in two years. That’s a lot of potential sales for a long time. Nice
Great Video! I was wondering, who takes care of the pricing updates/repricing? Do you use an automatic re-pricer, or does someone manually check them every so often? Thanks!
Hi I just wanted to say I enjoy watching your videos from both this channel and the main one I learn a lot of new stuff about retro gaming and reselling that I never knew before your content is very helpful and informative 🙂
@CATRP Crew Do you test all the games after you have cleaned them? If so what does that look like? Just going to a load screen or how far do you go with that?
We generally don’t test games that look fine. 99% of time if games don’t have scratches they work. If we resurface games and they are still scratched we test them. We usually play 5-10 seconds of a game and consider it good.
Great video like always guys. So I had a question when it comes to paying your crew how do you go about that? Do you used percentage of each item sold or do you have a steady rate per hour?
I have an Ecosmart machine and for me Yellow is the 'light' pad and 'green' is the medium pad. Did they change that on your machine or did I miss hear you?
So, how are the quality of the 72 pin connectors? I have an NES that won't stop blinking. I've bought one replacement connector which didn't help at all. Would love to get it working better
How much consistent inventory do you recommend having before trying to sell on Amazon right now I stay around 500 listing on ebay and about half of those are below 10 dollars
Did you start your business with limited budget buying and selling like you do now? Or did you have a decent amount of money to invest in it all from the start?
If you guys typically work an 8 hour day is there a way you could outsource some of the simpler, repetitive work during the other 16 hours such as online listing where you prep a large amount of games for someone else to list while you guys aren't at the barn? Imagine 1 or 2 other people posting between 1000-2000 more listings per night while you all sleep.
Do you have any jobs going? My OCD would be great at sorting out all those cases and putting them into alphabetical order ..... Still out of work after being made redundant because of co-vid and I have 2 young sons, fortunately, my wife still works but I need to work asap ..... lol ...... I'm only joking, well half joking as I'm in Thailand but if anything could be done remotely I'm the man ...... lol .... ;)
Also this video has nothing to do with selling on Amazon lmao only about organizing. Sometimes I don’t understand how you can be sorta intelligent in some ways with the thought of your business but incompetent in others. It’s like you try to be an entrepreneur type person but ya lacking the smarts

Replace the bad cases as needed, that way it's done, as someone else suggested.
