Just wish this was available down here in Australia. This episode reminds me of the "Race car in a Day" build of a Caterham yonks ago...and how good would a EV Caterham be!!! As classic as a mini and could be argued as even better looking. You gotta do a head to head with another high performance mini, al-la the MCM Honda B16 converted mini down here, surely there'd be one in the UK.
This video makes it look so easy! A real testament to the engineering that has gone into the kit to make it that way! Great video and awesome engineering job!
GREAT build series. You're designing systems for existing cars. Too bad it's such a hassle getting approval for a whole new design of your own = aluminum or 'Glas body would be nice.
After the car is registered a ev would you be able to retro fit a roll cage if you wanted to? Also would you be able to fit better lights etc or do they have to be oem parts ?
These really are genius systems. Would they fit in a mini clubman, or a Riley elf (seeing as it’s a mini with a boot). Also can you have a lower performance motor to get better range from the same batteries?
Combustion engines will usually do fewer mpg if they are larger capacity and optimised for performance if driven at the same speeds as a small efficient combustion engine. Electric motors are different. A powerful motor can also be a very efficient motor i.e. it generally uses the same energy if used at the same speeds and loads. (Of course a powerful EV motor driven at speeds and loads beyond those of a smaller less powerful will use more energy.)
This looks a fantastically well developed kit for the Mini. I know that they do not like any modifications to the shell, but couldn't the 12v battery box be deleted to allow the rear traction battery modules to be fitted under the boot floor? The original (12v battery box) panel is easily sourced from suppliers, as they often rot out, so retro fitting one if needed in the future would be easy enough. And a smaller/lighter lithium or sodium iron 12v could be placed elsewhere in the Mini boot? I'm just asking as you seem to have thought of everything and you have probably looked into the pros and cons of this?
There are many options that might be considered as better but it's all to do with regulations and registration. If they change anything that's part of the original shell the registration routine changes and becomes complex and expensive.
i dont konw if this gets answered later in the video, but does this use one of the zonic motors you were designing a few years back (I remember seeing them at fully charged live) or just an off the shelf like a hyper9 etc
I notice you install two modules upside down in the front box. I thought this was not possible? It's something you said in your LG CHem module overview a while back...
@@nickhazell327 Excuse me being a pedant, but I watched again. 1:47 to about 2:10 shows the battery box being assembled in its correct orientation. The bottom two modules are attached upside down on the underside of the structural coolant plate. Perhaps it's OK to install them upside down in this application because the battery box is not being liquid cooled? Also, the modules you are using differ from LG Chem ex Jag iPace...
You are correct, they are a pouch cell so can be upside down or on there longs side just not on there short end. But other vda 355 modules we have used on the past have been prismatic cells so can not be upside down or on there short end.
@@shaneambry7712 yes really sorry they are indeed upside down had my wires crossed a bit. These modules are quite happy being upside down. In fact the battery’s being put in the battery pack have already covered 15k miles in that orientation while testing 😊

It’s not always about the over all planet, it’s about the stuff our kids, friends and family are breathing in within the local area. @@gauravlagariya6200 clearly you do not know how to research the power grid supply. Over 30% of the UK is renewable the rest is gas, biomass and nuclear. Plus it is only getting better with the planned increase in renewables. If you are going to comment at least know what you are talking about!

The pack and gear are so nicely done 👍 gonna want to buy me a mini now😊

Love it! Great videos lads
Glad you enjoyed

That would be epic

Thanks 😊

No problem thanks for watching
@@Hazell_Nutz Am enjoying this approach you guys are doing, fun, informative and detailed. Am glad you guys are doing so good!
Question, there is a connection for every pouch inside each battery for the BMS, correct?
Yes that is correct
Amazing
Thanks
Is there a reversible conversion kit for Hondas? Particularly Civic (2008) and Fit (A.K.A. Jazz, 2009). BTW, I love these videos!
Not yet, thank you so much for watching

Yep should fit no problem. The motor is very efficient so does not need lower performance just a new map to make it slower
