This Week in Volcano News; Destructive Ruang Eruption, Kilauea Might Erupt

  • Опубликовано: 3 июн 2024
  • Earlier this week, the Ruang volcano produced an eruption the same order of magnitude as the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens, leaving a populated island completely destroyed. Elsewhere, in Hawaii, there is increasing unrest at the Kilauea volcano due to an ongoing magmatic intrusion. And, in a remote section of Tonga, the Tofua volcano produced an unexpected spike in activity. This video will discuss these stories and list the 47 volcanoes which are currently erupting around the planet.

    Hopefully, someone somewhere is tracking the current atmospheric volcanic load and its rate of change... along with some other abstract number to aggregate regional activity... and if so, I would love to see that added to your excellent and factual reports. Side note: It was really *alarming* for someone like me (not schooled in the subject) when I started following the channel because... I've no idea what 'normal' is.. and suddenly there are eruptions everywhere..but that is apparently normal.. so the regular inclusion of some baseline aggregate number to know when we've left normal would be lovely...

    I live in Vancouver, Canada and for about 2 weeks or so the tide has been lower than I can ever recall seeing, is it possible there is some connection with earthquakes, volcanoes and/or tsunamis somewhere else in the Pacific?

    • @missharry5727
      @missharry5727 29 дней назад +1

      The height of the high tide is affected by the gravitational pull of the sun and particularly the moon. At full moon the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the earth and the effect is enhanced. Also the distance of the moon varies as its orbit is elliptical, not a circle, and when it is closer to the earth it has a bigger effect. That will also vary with the steepness of the shore. You can find tide tables on line that show not just the times of high and low tides but how high they are. Here in the South of England the tides do vary a lot over the lunar month. I suspect this would have an enormously bigger effect than anything like distant volcanic activity.

    Hoping Kilauea erupts. Been a while since there has been a summit eruption outside the caldera. Many of those eruptions throughout the past century are the ones you can go and see the remains of, Kilauea Iki, and other eruptions in the 50's and 60's are the prime examples.
    As far as damage to people and structures, those areas have no permanent structures outside kiosks and things, and there is no barrier to lava flowing to the ocean. One day, lava will flow down through Puna again, but for now, all the activity is on the ocean side of the crest. Fans of Kilauea will note that over 90% of Kilauea has been covered in lava in the last 1000 years. And chances are quite good that the same is true for the next 1000 years.

    @2:30. I'm confused. Nothing was said about a volcanic winter. I simply commented about the impact of volcanoes on climate variability. Come on people. Have you experienced it? I have. I lived in Colorado after the Mt. Saint Helens eruption and it did cool the season and rain ash down on us. This is so absurd. Why even make it controversial? Yes there will be variations in regional temperatures. The degree is so variable in itself that the best models can't deal with it. Just the water vapor alone breaks the models. Fixating on a single trace gas is not working in a chaotic dynamic open system. It is human hubris. Our collective egos are over inflated.

    I’ll get slack for saying this but here goes. According to the book of Revelation, the earth becomes dark in the last days. Now some suggest this is due to volcanic eruptions. Hypothetically speaking, how many simultaneous eruptions would need to occur to darken the whole earth?

    What is "Mee Fifth". Is that a Sundee or Mondee ? Can I pickup my peecheck on Mee Fifth or do I have to weet for some other Dee ?
    Broadcasters and actors usually do some diction warm-ups before going on-air, and those with speech impediments always do. Barbara Walters tried to write her scripts to exclude her problematic syllables. "Say not See, Pay not Pee, Pray not Pree, Play not Plee, Flay not Flee, Fray not Free, Gray not Gree, Delay not Delee, Implicaytions not Implekeetions, Naytion not Neetion, Bay not Bee, Crayfish not Creefish, etc."
    Conversely, you could relokeete to that beautiful country, New Zealand, where they only have the one vowel sound "EE", but meeke up for it by using it for everything.

      I'd personally feel it odd if he didn't sound like that. I've not only gone accustomed to it, I prefer it as he doesn't get stuck on trying to sound like an announcer.
