This Week in Volcano News; Destructive Ruang Eruption, Kilauea Might Erupt
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 июн 2024
- Earlier this week, the Ruang volcano produced an eruption the same order of magnitude as the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens, leaving a populated island completely destroyed. Elsewhere, in Hawaii, there is increasing unrest at the Kilauea volcano due to an ongoing magmatic intrusion. And, in a remote section of Tonga, the Tofua volcano produced an unexpected spike in activity. This video will discuss these stories and list the 47 volcanoes which are currently erupting around the planet.

literally hyping this up. they are two different types of volcanos.
@@MicahOta No, he never does that.
GeologyHub is the best volcano news source on youtube. Love this guy! Gives the info and then I can look up more information from there.
Agreed
Excellent report. I rate this channel as number one for up to the minute volcano news and I never miss an update from you.
Tofua is super worrying. It's so similar to Hunga Tonga. I think it seriously needs to be highly monitored.
Yeah, Tofua has a pretty massive caldera herself. That has to be worrisome.
Agreed.
Eh, if it has a persistent lava lake I'm not worried about pressure building up in the short term.
Once the lava lake disappears it's time to start keeping an eye on it.

Can definitely attest that down here in Tasmania, the sunsets have been insane. The cololurs are so strong, and very unusual for this time of year!
Damn, this year is quite an “exciting” one if one can say such a thing about potentially dangerous natural events. Looking forward to every upload brother. You and OzGeo has essentially turned me from a mildly geologically interested person to quite the hobbyist. Thank you for being a great entry point to this amazing science.
I actually predicted this. I believe the uranium core from Fukushima nuclear plant, has reached the core. It took 13 yrs.

I appreciate you! I'm a total lava junkie, living on Kileuea, updates are always a good thing to keep our eyes on.
Thanks for taking on the suggestion about total actives globally, and making it a part of your regular reporting. 👍
Wow, that picture I sent in. Wasn't expecting it to look so beautiful bahaha! Always happy to help you GeoHub
The amazing thing is to see Ruang and then be informed how much smaller it has been than Krakatoa in 1883. Unimaginable what those people experienced snd endured.
Krakatoa had 2 eruptions of Ruangs current intensity level leading up to the cataclysmic August 27 1883 explosions. Ruang may do this too. You never know
@@gregdiggs423 yes, and Krakatoa's first eruption, at a more manageable scale, happened several months prior to the big August blast.
Thanks for all of your hard work man!
Thank You for your excellent updates. Eyes on Iceland , the activity is evolving. From the Great Lakes of the US ♥
You're the most accurate climate observation service - mostly moist from here on then!
Tofua is a big system very mature. Will be interesting to see what happens there.
Alert level at Purace was raised to orange.
As always, good reporting. Thank you.
Please can you talk about decade volcanoes
thank you from Canada 🙏🏻
Actually the pronunciation of Ruang is (Roo-ah-ng), the A is pronounced like the U in 'but.' As an Indonesian and your subscriber, thank you for all the volcanoes update
Thanks as always.
A good overview and update. Thanks for the continued coverage. Greg. 😊
Wow! Did I read that right? There were 15 different volcanos around the globe that all erupted on the.same day, May 3rd?
Thanks for sharing! 😊
Thanks as always man.
Thanks.
Rincón de la Vieja in Costa Rica has its magma too close to the surface (news says something around 5mts) so that one gonna erupt soon probably
That Tofua caldera implies to me it was much bigger for that prior event.

I love the hotspot feature on the satellite(s). I find it fascinating, and even more so, when hot spots show up in places where they "shouldn't be."
Soputan is erupting? I have contacts in the area and nobody has mentioned anything out of the ordinary.
Holy heck! Did you all see that guy jumping up and down on the trampoline that was in the 1st image. All you could see was his head popping up a couple of times. Who would put a trampoline in a volcano? Crazy people!
Hopefully, someone somewhere is tracking the current atmospheric volcanic load and its rate of change... along with some other abstract number to aggregate regional activity... and if so, I would love to see that added to your excellent and factual reports. Side note: It was really *alarming* for someone like me (not schooled in the subject) when I started following the channel because... I've no idea what 'normal' is.. and suddenly there are eruptions everywhere..but that is apparently normal.. so the regular inclusion of some baseline aggregate number to know when we've left normal would be lovely...
Would you look into Clear Lake Volcanic Field? There appears to be an earthquake swarm very close to the volcanic field that was happening over the last few days on the USGS website. Do you think it’s volcanic related or due to the fault lines near Clear Lake?
If your talking south, south west of the lake it's due to the geothermal power station there. They have tons of sensors and those earthquakes are normal and happen daily.
5:02 I'm still loyally waiting for Amogus to show up in those red squares.
Timothy, I know you probably won’t read this, but I was just randomly exploring on google earth and found in the Phillipines a lagoon called Taguines lagoon which looks like an impact crater
Earthquake activity at Kilauea dramatically decreased yesterday. See if it lasts.
I live in Vancouver, Canada and for about 2 weeks or so the tide has been lower than I can ever recall seeing, is it possible there is some connection with earthquakes, volcanoes and/or tsunamis somewhere else in the Pacific?
The height of the high tide is affected by the gravitational pull of the sun and particularly the moon. At full moon the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the earth and the effect is enhanced. Also the distance of the moon varies as its orbit is elliptical, not a circle, and when it is closer to the earth it has a bigger effect. That will also vary with the steepness of the shore. You can find tide tables on line that show not just the times of high and low tides but how high they are. Here in the South of England the tides do vary a lot over the lunar month. I suspect this would have an enormously bigger effect than anything like distant volcanic activity.
Just a question I've always wondered, especially lately.
Have the amount of concurrent eruptions gone up? Down? Remained roughly the same?
How far back does our data go in this?
Noted
WO‼️
In right at release!
Purace volcano's alert level has been raised from yellow to orange, very explosive volcano, which is worrying.

Astrum did a retrospective video on the Noto earthquake which hit Japan on Jan 1, 2024.
Isn't Bromo volcano Caldera type, not stratovolcano?
Just out of curiosity: with all these active volcanoes spewing ash and gases into the atmosphere, how is this affecting global warming? Contributing or mitigating?
Kilauea inflation is still ongoing but seismic activity has stopped. There's indications it could erupt, but at the same time there's indications there's a failed intrusion.
Maybe a paroxsym? Speaking of Tofua

Hoping Kilauea erupts. Been a while since there has been a summit eruption outside the caldera. Many of those eruptions throughout the past century are the ones you can go and see the remains of, Kilauea Iki, and other eruptions in the 50's and 60's are the prime examples.
As far as damage to people and structures, those areas have no permanent structures outside kiosks and things, and there is no barrier to lava flowing to the ocean. One day, lava will flow down through Puna again, but for now, all the activity is on the ocean side of the crest. Fans of Kilauea will note that over 90% of Kilauea has been covered in lava in the last 1000 years. And chances are quite good that the same is true for the next 1000 years.
You are hoping Kilauea erupts. Typical of Kilauea to erupt every year. It happens. But hoping for the volcano to erupt, are you sick in the mind or something?
Hoping for the volcano to erupt? 🐵🤡

ok, this is a massively stupid question, but i'd like to know if using a drone to drop a bunker buster bomb into a volcano about to erupt would do more damage or make no difference. yes, it's a stupid question.

We also have a CME due today, and at least 14 M class and Two X class flares. Look for an increase in eruptions and seismic.
An active day on the USGS earthquake map too.
It will explode. The island will be gone
With this latest string of X class, solar flares, I’m sure we can expect more seismic activity.
Geologists predict Tofua eruption likely to be high in protein…
@2:30. I'm confused. Nothing was said about a volcanic winter. I simply commented about the impact of volcanoes on climate variability. Come on people. Have you experienced it? I have. I lived in Colorado after the Mt. Saint Helens eruption and it did cool the season and rain ash down on us. This is so absurd. Why even make it controversial? Yes there will be variations in regional temperatures. The degree is so variable in itself that the best models can't deal with it. Just the water vapor alone breaks the models. Fixating on a single trace gas is not working in a chaotic dynamic open system. It is human hubris. Our collective egos are over inflated.

I’ll get slack for saying this but here goes. According to the book of Revelation, the earth becomes dark in the last days. Now some suggest this is due to volcanic eruptions. Hypothetically speaking, how many simultaneous eruptions would need to occur to darken the whole earth?

Broadcasters and actors usually do some diction warm-ups before going on-air, and those with speech impediments always do. Barbara Walters tried to write her scripts to exclude her problematic syllables. "Say not See, Pay not Pee, Pray not Pree, Play not Plee, Flay not Flee, Fray not Free, Gray not Gree, Delay not Delee, Implicaytions not Implekeetions, Naytion not Neetion, Bay not Bee, Crayfish not Creefish, etc."
Conversely, you could relokeete to that beautiful country, New Zealand, where they only have the one vowel sound "EE", but meeke up for it by using it for everything.

In the name of God all that's Holy....can you PLEASE do something about the narration????
I don't know if it's AI or a horrid attempt to imitate Carl Sagan but PLEASE.. .get a normal speaking voice to narrate these important videos.
