I’ve been using diy pedal transducers for a long time and the fact I can feel when the abs kicks in or the start of the front tyres losing grip helps a great deal with driving at or close to the limit. I think, a lot of racers forget you do a lot of steering with your feet to control rotation and slip angle, as much as you do with the wheel in front of you. Awesome video as always 👍

BAAARRRROOOOOOOOO! This is a great video! I always brake hard in a straight line, then lift and run through the corners. I always have an issue with understeer. My best Monza time in Iracing was about 1:50.5-ish. I ran a few warm-up laps since I haven't driven the track in a while. Then keeping this in mind while braking into corners and my FIRST timed lap was 1:49.7. Two laps later I got 1:48.8. I'm still rough since I'm used to braking early and rolling through the corners so there was a lot of time left. I can brake later, keep a little bit of pressure and rotate and get time in the braking zone and corner. I have heard about rotation but never really grasped it. I love it! And to think, I found your video to see a review on the Simagic haptic pedal reactors. I wasn't expecting a freaking lesson that knocked almost 2 seconds off my laps.

    @excrubulent Год назад +1

Nice info, I am looking into how to source parts so I can DIY this, but it will take some doing. They aren't easy to find.
Also, a little nitpick about your explanation of trailbraking: in an ideal trailbraking scenario in a track car, you're not actually sliding the rear wheels, and the front wheels don't stay perfectly on a straight track. Both tyres will develop an angle of attack whenever you are cornering. That doesn't mean they slide, they simply deform. In fact it's impossible for them to provide cornering force without angle of attack, because they are elastomers - a type of spring - that will not create any force between the wheel hubs and the road unless they are deformed.
Effectively the contact patch of the tyre will twist to roll straight along the road, even though the wheel hub above it is at a slightly different angle. You can see this in videos of tyres on treadmills being twisted, and watching the rubber shift around but not slide.
Another way to think of it is as if the rubber "walks" towards the outside of the corner. As a part of the tyre touches the ground and progresses from the front to the back of the contact patch, it will progressively deform more and more until it leaves the ground and it springs back to its rest position. As more rubber surface goes through this process, the end result is that the tyre will shift to the outside of the corner without any sliding taking place.
A lot of people misunderstand this, and I find that knowing it is very helpful. Every good driver knows the feeling of pitching the car into the corner, but not necessarily the explanation. Knowing what's happening helps you to get faster by learning to manipulate this behaviour to find the best traction in any given situation.

That's a really nice looking set of pedals ❤
My sim3d pedal motors only need 50-60% as well, any more is overkill though efficiency and longevity are on point.

@rickylah69 Hard to say? It is a lot of money. I do like my P1000's more than my Heusinkveld Ultimate +`s that had the rumble motors. However, at that level of quality pedals, the differences are fairly small. I imagine that kits to mount the haptic motors to other pedals will start dropping soon. Is this compatible with fanatec pedals?

    • @chepilevski

It is stand alone unit but we have to find a way to attach it to other pedals 🤛

If you have the p2000 control box and power supply and find the way to attach to your HE will work perfectly 🤛

Can these Haptic motors be adapted to other pedal brands? I’d love to add these to my Invictas.

If you find the way to attach those somehow, they work if you take the Simagic P2000 control box and power supply! You can then attach up to 3 haptics and use SimHub or Simagic software to get the effects you want 🤛

You can also use an led light strip and simhub for an ABS active effect. That is what I currently use

@@chepilevski hmmm looks like I might have a project coming up 🤔 Might m currently using the Sim3D rumble motor kit which is not bad for immersion but as you say it’s just vibration really and not too helpful in the actual driving. Maybe once I get my hands on these I can get a bracket 3D printed.

@@chepilevski Thank you, I am a beginner but your videos help me a lot. Almost bit the bullet for the Fanatec qr2 but now I am contemplating between that and a haptic engine for my break...I have the QR1 lite on my wheels and don't necessarily feel like upgrading even though everyone seems to say it improves a lot. I wanted to make some diy haptic motors since I had fun making a wind sim but this seems to be on a whole different level. Especially since it can be controlled by Simhub... Don't really want to have another software running in the background. VR makes every PC run on the limit. Have a nice day and thanks for the reply.

Is it ok to hit ABS for a period of time while you're still braking in a straight line and then ease off as you transition to trailbraking? Or should I be targeting to NEVER trigger ABS, even in a straight line?

    • @chepilevski

Yes man, I use ABS in straight line and try to not activate it while turning in the trial braking process
