Great minds think alike.. I too was concerned about loosing the golden book spine and did the same thing. I love your red!! I had never seen a red spine before! So pretty. I have also made some that the spine is completely covered but that is when the spine is in an overly loved condition! LOL. Thank you for sharing my dear daughter!
I know this is an older video , however it's very easy to remove the gold strip if you heat it with a heat gun . It practically pops off on it's own once the glue is warmed . Then the staples can be easily removed etc
Mimi Sloan, This works like a charm! It’s also how I get stickers off of books when I buy them at thrift stores. I’m like you, Stacy, I always wondered why this isn’t done more. I have seen one other person do this (Sally’s junk journal journey). She heated up the spine and the foil strip comes off in one piece with no damage from the staples. Then she took out the staples, and for the spine, she cut a piece like you did, but instead of placing it on top of the 2 little flaps, she made it flush with them by taking a piece of paper and gluing the spine pieces to it. She took the little foil piece and glued it back onto the spine. It’s kind of hard to explain but it was really cute when she finished.
Oh my gosh I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this idea. You are so right the spine is so iconic and i am thrilled you figured out how to keep it. I just put a new spine on my Little Golden Book. Your instructions were spot on. Thank you so much for sharing. I can't wait to finish mine.
Wait..what!!!! This is another example of your brilliantness, crafty teacher! You nailed the project--I would have never altered a Golden Book until now. Thank you, Stacy--once again--love your style.
I had the same thought about the gold spine. Its part of what makes the book feel nostalgic.I pop all the staples and out, pull the pages out, and then cut down the middle of the spine. I just use a book binding hole punch tool and put in mixed media paper. I use them for sketchbooks.
Here’s a game changer for you!! If you take a heat gun and heat the foil spine, it will peel right off the golden book🙌. Then, you can add that spine back wherever you want!!
Hands up. I’m a walking disaster too! As a matter of fact, I don’t even need to walk for disaster to happen 😂, it’s just always around me like an aura. I think it might be just part of being creative 😉. Love your idea of keeping the iconic GB spine! Thank you for figuring it out and showing us xx
OMGoodness this is so genius Stacy! I adore altered LGB and this is the best I've seen yet! I can't wait to see how you do the signatures!! 🙌👏 An excellent tutorial! 👏🙌🐩💎XO🌹XO💘XO💜XO💎🐩
THANK YOU! I was working on my Golden Book journal and I watched a few vids and each time they cut the gold strip off and tossed it aside..it was driving me crazy because that binding is what mashes it a Golden book in the first place.. Thanks Stacy! Hugs
Love the video and I wanted to share with you that if you use a heat gun on that, the whole thing will come off and then you can just glue it back on the little golden part
I love this! I was searching for a video how to keep the spine.. I couldn’t find one so I figured out myself. Like all the other comments.. I just put heat gun on it and It cane right off!! Great job.
Thank you for this technique. I was thinking the same thing every time I saw these golden book journals done. What really bothered me was seeing some of the title covered. I wish I hadn’t already gutted several of mine. Next time ...
Thank you for this tutorial. I just COULD NOT all but destroy an old Golden Book. I will leave the gold part intact and just make a 1" thick book. That was my original intention anyway. Thank you for sharing this with us.
AFTER making sure the Golden Book isn't vintage have someone who has a saw remove them . . . I like yours more! Hope he still has the spines in his shop . . . . lol
THANK YOU!!! Thank You!! Thank You!!! Awesome! I also have been wanting to make sreI kept the golden spine!! Here I was staring at it and trying to REMOVE the golden sticker which was NOT going to happen easily or quickly! LOL This is just awesome Stacy!! Thank you so much!1
If you take a heat gun and slowly melt the wax on the golden spine, you can easily remove it intact. Makes it much easier to have the whole piece for the spine.
Great tutorial, I'm definitely going to try this, one thing I thought of, whilst the book is in two seperate pieces you could punch the holes for the signatures, before assembling? 😊
No I dont think that would be a good idea... the paper is so thin that it would likely fall to pieces and really there is no need to do so considering you can keep it intact without doing that :)
I love this method and like that you don't have to cover the front art work. I would really like to keep the size of the covers the same so that the inside pages still fit without having to cut or fold them... Anyone know how to do that? Hope i am making sense. :-) So the foil would still be on the back and front, with a new spine... Thanks!
Not sure if you have found the answer to your question yet. There is someone who made a video on how to do this: ruclips.net/video/0LgUmbq6mgE/видео.html
If you would pry at the back of the book it would come apart easier. And stop cutting it with a razor. And I already do the same as you. Watch paintalot video''s she does this easily.
EXACTLY ! This was exactly what I always think also, the integrity of the iconic spine ! Thank you.

Leave it to you Stacy❣️❣️❣️ I watched 11 long winded videos to find someone who DIDNT want to tear the book apart. THANK YOU❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️

cool ill have to try that :)
Did you know if you heat the spine label with a heat gun, it will come right off and then it's easy to get the staples out.

You nailed preserving the iconic spine. This is great for the vintage ones I wanted to alter
Thank you, thank you and THANK YOU for making this video on how to keep the spine!!! I have been looking forever!!!

I love how you kept the spine❤️ Your the only person I have ever found that does that. I love it!
I love how all your videos are so casual but totally informative. Thanks for another awesome one Stacy. 🐩
Awesome. Now to buy some Golden Books. Thanks for sharing your technique for this.
OMGoodness this is so genius Stacy! I adore altered LGB and this is the best I've seen yet! I can't wait to see how you do the signatures!! 🙌👏 An excellent tutorial! 👏🙌🐩💎XO🌹XO💘XO💜XO💎🐩

Awesome Stacy!!! Love how it looks!! Tfs!!! Happy crafting!!
Glad I found your tutorial on leaving the Golden Book spine intact! I’m going to try it
Love the video and I wanted to share with you that if you use a heat gun on that, the whole thing will come off and then you can just glue it back on the little golden part
Thank you! Just the video I was looking for 😊
Really clever way to keep the spine, love it!
Stacey, what an awesome idea! Love it!

L❤VE this idea❣
TFS Stacy, great job 🙃🦔
Had this idea this morning before seeimg this. I think the same as you regarding original spine. 💜
Brilliant Stacy. Thank you for sharing 💟
Love the spine you created with the other red too!
Right??? i’ve bn looking for that too! thank you! 😀
This is genius, I always cut and cover mine, but I am going to give this a try. Thank you so much
Thank you for this technique. I was thinking the same thing every time I saw these golden book journals done. What really bothered me was seeing some of the title covered. I wish I hadn’t already gutted several of mine. Next time ...

OMG what a great video. I want to keep the iconic spine and I looked everywhere until I searched spine HAHAH
Awesome!!.. LOVE this idea!! TFS! ~tina
Had wondered how it could be done. You came up with a brilliant method.
Literally was just trying to figure out how to do this this weekend ❤️ great timing Stacy!
Love it I will try it

Great job Stacy!
Thank you! I like it too!

Really great Idea!
Love the idea 🥰
Great idea but if you don't add an extension in the middle the pages are much too wide.
You sooo crazzzy...
GOOD!!! 😂😀
Thank you again for the video! I just rewatched it! Got me some LGBs
The original books which were 10 of them had a navy blue strip instead of gold.
❤❤❤❤❤❤ very cool 😎
Great tutorial, I'm definitely going to try this, one thing I thought of, whilst the book is in two seperate pieces you could punch the holes for the signatures, before assembling? 😊
What is alien glue you use for gluing the spine
Stacy, could you 'soak' the red spine off, without destroying the cover?
No I dont think that would be a good idea... the paper is so thin that it would likely fall to pieces and really there is no need to do so considering you can keep it intact without doing that :)
What kind of glue do you use for the spine
Bought lil golden books and was trying to figure this out too!!! Thanks now I know!! Thanks Stacy!!
Love it
Very smart
Lilly Guerrero does this, but in a much easier method! Look her up!

I don’t have a heat gun my hairdryer works the same
🐩🙂
