Hi Diane, I know this video is a few yrs old and you my have discovered this already but for any new journal makers, I thought I’d share something I have learned. If you take a heat gun and heat up the foil, it comes off in one piece without being torn. Once it is off it exposes the staples and if you turn it to the back you can pry up the prongs really easy by just gently tugging on the back cover, once the pages are out you can push the staples thru the front cover. The little gold strip can be used in the journal somewhere. Just thought I’d share. Have a great day!
I brought my first golden book to make a journal. This is so helpful and u are such a good teacher,. I wish u were just round the corner instead of across the world. I would be coming for coffee and chatting to u often. But we can pray for each other and I can watch you so that is a blessing. You are such a lovely woman. Hugs from Colleen nz
Aww, I love that so much Colleen. I wish we were around the corner too. We'd have a great time having coffee together. I guess YT is the next best thing. I've met so many wonderful, precious friends through YT, friends like you, that I adore. I guess technology can be a good thing sometimes. Big Hugs honey
@@shawcraft1 I've done the cover and have been working on adding papers to the signatures... SO EXCITED!!! I have a 13 year old daughter the loves to 'do art' with me. She started on one too!!! Thank you again for the tutorials... you are GREAT at showing and explaining everything!
Yes, I am sure I will be at it awhile but I want to make them specific to each child and I hole to hang onto them and give it to them when they get old enough to appreciate them. It made my heart happy when my oldest granddaughter (8 yrs old) when she told me she would like me to help her with making a journal. All of my grand kids ( all but the newborn. Lol) love to craft with me.
I am so excited right now. I am making my first journal.I followed along this video & it went well! Thank you so much, I will follow along with your next one! You are a great teacher, easy to follow along with!
I couldn't agree more! I've made several of these journals now and I've watched so many videos hoping to find a better way but none of them seemed better than the process I'd been using. Diane, you're a genius!!! I'm so happy to have found this video. Thank you SO much!!!
Wonderful tutorial - you took the mystery out of assembling the spine. Now I am ready to give this a try - just have to decide on a book to use. Looking forward to the next steps from you - thanks for sharing so clearly.
Hello Diane, just benge watching some of your older videos and I wondered where do you get most of your material you use for your golden book journals, I enjoy all your videos, very inspirational . This was a great tutorial, thanks for sharing.
I have an accumulated stash of items from thrift stores, craft stores, and estate sales, as well as gifts from friends. That 's where most of it comes from.
I believe this is it? I will link 2 of them because I think there were 4 videos in this series. ruclips.net/video/39lstg25AqQ/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/Rf95wsNlR2A/видео.html
Sometimes I do keep the gold foil spine. I have found several different ways to do it, but this was one of my first ones and I didn't trust not having the spine reinforced. We live and learn, right? Now, when I make them, I keep the gold foil spine. It's not hard to poke the holes. I just let it dry first, and then I actually use a kneeling pad from the dollar store (for gardening) and I punch an awl through it into that kneeling pad. Makes it super easy!
Love it! I also love your accent. Yes, you do have one, It reminds me of my southern cousins, and love the delicate lilt of your voice. That said, thank you for sharing this. PS> Get yourself a hardened screwdriver instead of the butter knife. We will have to start a support group for misused cutlery! I have been known to use one in a pinch, especially when i need to tighten the screws on my pots and pans. Don't tell my husband, please. ;~D
Loved your spine technique but I was sad to see you cover the little foil spine. If you go over it with a heat gun the adhesive lifts like a dream to be used in the book or spine or as embelishments or little tabs 😍
thanks for this...can you show us your camera setup? You can tell you have done thsi a few times before....lol I am getting ready to do a haul video...yes I am going to a video! lol Sandy

Wow I thought you were going to keep the gold foil spine, with all those layers is it hard to poke a hole through it to add signatures?

I’m doing one step by step with you. Did you feel me pausing you? Thanks for doing this at such a easy speed to follow.
Haha, I felt it, Kathy lol

Haha! I love it! I will definitely get a screwdriver and no worries, you're secret is safe with me lol
Would a screwdriver work to loosen the staples?
I would think so, but it's easier to use something flat, like a case knife
How do you sew in the signatures for the golden book
From Heidi Mason
Here's a link to a video that will help you sew the signatures.

Thank you so very much
Why not start at the back to loosen staples? Back to loosen, then front, and then back to remove would give smoother results with less damage.
Loved your spine technique but I was sad to see you cover the little foil spine. If you go over it with a heat gun the adhesive lifts like a dream to be used in the book or spine or as embelishments or little tabs 😍
Great idea! Thanks for sharing it, I will try it next time. tfw
thanks for this...can you show us your camera setup? You can tell you have done thsi a few times before....lol I am getting ready to do a haul video...yes I am going to a video! lol Sandy
I can't wait to see your video! I will try to remember to show my camera setup
I don't understand why go to such great lengths to not destroy the golden spine when it's covered anyway?
I do it to keep the width, not the actual spine
@@shawcraft1 Thanks!
Where is part 2 of this tutorial? I can't find it on the list. =(
If you go to my channel and click on videos, it's right above this one in the list
