CSXT 4318 is a former D&H GP-39-2. Shot it in Tampa in 1993 still in D&H Gray & Blue scheme, relettered CSXT. The stump gon was done by the Seaboard Air Line. In the 50's 60's and 70's. Developers pulled stumps out of the ground. They contain resin and were valuable for that. They would load into these cars and the slots allow for pitch and goo, to flow out of the car during transport. Hope they repaint it SAL !
+Zachery Bradshaw well she will not be making her way around anymore. we have yet to do anything with it, but it is considered part of our core collection.
As the video explains, the car was converted by the railroad to haul pine tree stumps. Was very popular in the "pine belt" from the early 60's to the mid 80's.
Thanks! I didn't wait long enough (obviously). In HO scale, Tichy Train Group makes an SCL Stump Car kit but it doesn't look quite like this. I wonder if SCL had other gondolas that were purpose-made for stump hauling. The narrator explains that this is a conversion from a regular gondola. It might be fun (or not) to duplicate that conversion in HO scale.
After scanning through a couple of hundred pictures, I gave up looking for it. Hmm, that seems to be a pattern with me... I'll have to ride down to Parrish one of these days and check it out. They were closed the last time I tried.

Cool! Are there any SAL stump gons left besides this one?
That thing is in rough shape. I hate to be a jerk, but couldn't they have chosen one in better condition to preserve?
Aren’t they gonna run the whole line? (Would be nice for 8330 to pass that crossing)
Say Glenn; Is that stump car going to be transformed into an open air car?
Nope, it will be restored as a Seaboard stump gondola.
GMrailroading Then I guess it will be added into the freight train consist behind the Duke?
What is a stump gondola?
