I used to play old school Donkey Kong on my Nintiendo 64. If you played Doneky Kong 64 and made it to the Factory there was the original arcade machine in a hidden room and it was so much fun!
Shelby Longo It was Not so much fun, because you had to beat it twice to 100% complete the game. First time for a Golden Banana. Second for the Nintendo Coin.
Without glitches, the Nintendo Coin is mandatory to make progress. So although it is needed to 100% the game, it's also needed to beat the game in general.

The Pie Factory level is second in the Japanese version.
Yep In the original Japanese release it goes Barrels, Pie Factory, Elevators, then Rivet Stage. And then it just repeats.
The NA version goes Barrels, Rivet Stage, then it goes Barrels, Elevator, then Rivets and then it finally goes to the Japanese order.
And NES port removes the Pie Factory all together for some reason.
It's so rare that Arin sounds drunk and tired and Danny sounds normal. I kinda like the dynamic

On Game Grumps vs I root for Dan over Arin all the time, and I started watching in the Dan era even though I was subscribed to Jontron's channel back when he was on Grumps. Both Jon's and Dan's dynamic with Arin are good.
Level 2 is actually a cement factory, not a pie factory. It's kinda weird to go to 3 construction-themed levels and one bakery. Those are bags of cement being carried across conveyor belts, not pies. Also, those would be gigantic pies.
The board order 'differences', the high score table allowing 12 letters instead of 3, and the level intros having 'How high can you try?' instead of 'How high can you get?' is because the Switch version is from the Japan (revision/set 3) ROMs.
All the Japan versions play the levels in order repeatedly (girders, cement, springs, rivets), and the USA versions had different sets for each 'cycle' (girders, rivets -> girders, springs, rivets -> girders, cement, springs, rivets -> girders, cement, girders, springs, rivets -> and then girders, cement, girders, springs, girders, rivets forever repeating...)

Jon was the one who really liked DKC. They played DKC:TF but neither of them really had a connection to DKC. The DKC3 play through was great because we saw that Jon was right in that Arin would like it more than the first 2.

To those confused about why the screens are all mixed up: At the very start of this game, there's a menu for multiple versions of this game. Early and fixed versions seem to be the Japanese version, despite all the English. The American version is labeled as International. In that version, you have to earn all the stages. Plus, they upped the difficulty to make the game hungrier for quarters.

Part of why Donkey Kong is so difficult is because it looks like Mario but controls more like Ghosts and Goblins. The fact that it looks like games with much smoother jumping and no fall damage will constantly fuck with your expectations.

I've never gotten angry at Arin for not being good at video games bc not everyone is gonna be great at every single game, but just watching him play such a classic and albeit EASY game really grinded my gears lol I guess I can say I'm officially part of the game grumps fanon. Lol just his whole strategy is so convoluted and much more complicated than it needed to be. Like there was several different routes he could have taken but he has to go the long way! In this essay I will break down each in every way that he could have taken a better route and had more successful overall. For instances his whole jumping pattern is simply reactionary and not preparing for the barrels at all...................................................................
