They aren’t dead, the plot of the movie is people (souls) who haven’t reached earth yet, when somebody is born they will become a human, they’re new souls and they aren’t familiar with the world.

The suit she's wearing is similar to the Thailand (*edit: Vietnamese and Malaysian) female warrior dress, and the color blue isn't new to Disney, neither is it new to dark skin color. The main character doesn't even wear blue for most of the time, you eventually see her wearing another outfit in the trailer. And obviously they'll choose their main character to have a dark skin color, it's literally set in ASEAN culture.

I can't believe how good the animation is nowdays, it's so realistic. Sometimes I get caught off guard for a second thinking they're switching between the real world and animation. I know they did that in The Good Dinosaur though....that movie was so beautiful...and low-key awesome. I watched it with my family and we loved it. The more serious thoughtful tone was nice with a few good laughs. Very underrated.
This makes me miss going and seeing movies in the theatre! 😢

It's almost like the writers didn't do their research and pull inspiration from real life indigenous cultures like the ATLA writers did. News flash but they're not the only ones that can utilize traditions and art from those cultures. Calm tf down because they're finally getting more representation and it's a good thing.
