I bought acetone today & decided to try this technique. I kept my nails wrapped for 20min, a orange stick to remove the polish, used a nail/cuticle oil and my nails look great. Didn't have to go to a salon and pay to have this done. I did one hand w/out filing the top coat & the other hand I filed the top coat & it was easier to remove.
@@armpitfuzz That's what I used. I live in New Zealand & finding nail polish remover with acetone as strong as being sold in the states is a pain so I used straight acetone. :)
QueueTeaPi so agree with you. Did the gel nail it’s pretty and all gives nails a nice shine....but I realize it does damage your nails 😩 I’ll stick with the old fashion way regular nail polish & a shiny top coat. Just want my Healthy nails back 💅🏽 ☺️
I find regular nail polish more time consuming, honestly. It takes forever to dry and I always end up having to redo a few nails because I end up smudging polish.
Thank you for this tip. I had a manicure for mother's day and yes, the gel nail polish lasted a long time, but it looked horrible after my nails started growing. Your instruction was simple and it works.
Actually worked. I had gel nails for almost 3 weeks and they still looked good but I was getting tired of it and didn't want to go to the salon. I did what she did and it worked ! I used nail polish remover but I let it sit longer
I can't watch this without commenting. My information is for Shellac or gel nail polish NOT gel nail enhancements. First take a nail buffer and gently buff to remove the shine, take 3 cotton balls, cut 1 in half (thumbs), cut the other 2 into 4 pieces (fingers), soak in acetone (yes acetone nail polish remover will work regular acetone can be too hard on the nails, wrap nails in foil, wait 20 minutes (this can be cut down further if you put your hand in a sandwich bag) If ready it will be lifting off the nail, DO NOT USE A METAL CUTICLE PUSHER THIS IS WRONG use an orangewood stick to gently scrape off the polish from cuticle to tip, once everything is off a light coat of cuticle oil to counter act the drying nature of the acetone.
Thanks, just got myself a home gel kit and appreciate this video very much. I had gotten gel nails for the first time for my daughter's wedding, and when I went back to the salon, they used a ceramic drill to remove the polish-YIKES, NOT IMPRESSED, which inspired me to do my own.
Like most of us, I'm here because salons are all CLOSED! I was able to finally get the polish off but it definitely took longer than 15mins to start to soften/dissolve. I left mine on for at least 30 mins. But it did work.
This was so helpful! Thank you so much! I’m so thankful for RUclips and people doing tutorials and reviews as I was able to figure out how to do my gel nails at home on my own! It’s my first time doing them, and they’re still going strong! Here’s to seeing if they last another week, as I’m past the one week mark already!
for someone who is impatient on things, i don't think i am ever using gel polish for a long time. i love it how it looks on my long nails, but yea - it's a hard work on removing it.
I am thinking of going gel finally because most of regular nail polishes take like 19hours to dry properly, and lighter colors take like 3-4 coats, I hate it.
Yesss thank you! I had the hardest time removing my gel manicure a few months ago, but now that I knew how to nicely remove it, I'm not afraid to go get a new gel manicure. Thank you! ^^
My gel nails have been on for like two weeks and they’re already peeling but I don’t wanna damage them and then quarantine happened and all shops besides grocery shops and pharmacies are closed
Thank you, I did it, and it just came right off. my manicurist has been filing the Gel off and has completely wrecked my nails, I wish I have watched this before going to her, it has taken me 5 months to grown the damaged bed out.
I wish I had seen this video sooner. I went to a nail salon yesterday to have my gel polish removed. The lady used this sanding tool to remove the polish and now the surface of my nails look scratchy and uneven.
I went 6 months without gel nails to let my natural nails grow back. This year for Mother’s Day my family got me a gift certificate from “the best nail and hair salon in my area”. 6 days later 2 of my nails popped off like they were press-on nails. The next day a couple more nails were gone. The next day the nail 1:281:28 on my index finger is lifting but it is stuck in one spot (It feels like I was struck on the finger nail by a hammer). Long story short, I’m going to put this experience in the “lesson learned” category because I won’t be having my nails done again. I know that I sound extreme but this is just the worst nail salon & technician I have ever had do my nails. I have been to salons that are so-so. Anyway Thx for the advice on how to remove the remaining gel nails at home. To pay for the removal of these nails would add insult to injury. Once off I will be able to breathe. Good luck to everyone ✨
This is for soak off gel by the way. She didn't specify that. If you try to do this with gel that is not soak off it won't work. You have to file it off.
this helped me so MUCH my friend was almost dying from having ugly ahh unfinished nails and now they're beautiful and healthy and NOT DEAD looking ahh nails
Thanks so much for the video! My dau had to re do her nails and I had to help her start over and you helped us out so much. You have no idea how much you have helped this diy guy.
Guys I kid you not but I'm currently in quarantine... Week 3 of 5. I went in with gel nails(big mistake). Anyway I wanted to remove them but I didn't have acetone. So I used my Cutex nail remover and it worked like a gem!! So if you desperately need to get gel off, try this!!!
Thank you so muvh for sharing. This is really helpful. I really didn't want to go back to rhe salon just to have this remove. I don't have time to go there and I need this removed because of my work. It's not allowed in the food industry
Hmmm. I'll try this. Last night I soaked my sanded gels for ten minutes and they barely changed. I regret that I used the cuticle pusher because it basically ripped off the nail bed along with the gel polish. I used those cute clips. Next time I'll use foil. Hopefully that makes the difference. Some people are using Gel Moments products. Don't know how that product is.
Thanks for the video! Hopefully it'll work for me. I'm never getting shellac ever again! Shouldn't have to soak with acetone...should be able to just have a quick wipe off.
My nails are usually long when I get my nails done, so when I get tired of the polish I just clip my nails off, and then they grow back again and I repeat that, and then it grows back again and there you go, my nails are normal again. Sometimes my nails break but it works the same way as clipping them.
With nail salons closed in NJ I want to remove my gel nail polish. Reading older comments I don't have soak off polish. the salon ladies are very professional and meticulous. This process looks easy but will it damage the nails if I file over th shine? I need to be careful. I've had gel nails for at least 10 years and my own nails are thin. Any advice will be appreciated.
I tried doing this.....it was hell. The foils kept on coming loose and coming off lol maybe I'm just really uncoordinated...but yeah it didn't exactly work for me.

Natasha M Why is that?!

Yes!

i tried this and it worked perfectly. I buffed my nails first b4 I used the acetone and foil. I also used a wooden cuticle stick instead of metal.

This is way better than the 10 to 11 minutes long tutorial videos!
Idk why people are saying this doesnt work. Its literally fool proof as long as youre using pure acetone.

Totally agree :)

i agree! youtube is amazing. People upload videos that benefits us, and our viewing of these videos benefits them! it's win win situation!
The way you explain is amazing and simple to understand, more videos pls
Thank you for telling how long to let the nails soak, worked!
Never use a metal instrument to remove gel nail polish! It will damage the nail. An orange wood stick is preferred!
Deirdre Haggerty - Exactly just wait another 10-20 minutes until it falls off.

you have to file off the top coat . doing it this way will take longer than 5 mins for sure

do you need to clip them shorter aswell? mine got so long and im wondering if they'll break

i find it better when you sand off the top glossy part until its matte and do the same procedure you said
Sending is not recommended, no matter what part you do it on -- it is damaging the nail no matter what, so that's why I didn't do so in this video!
With what do youu sand it off?
Natalia Trotsay just a nail filer, I personally don't find it damaging as I am just sanding off the polish part and not my own nails.

Hello how are you doing today my name is Eric Moore
Why didn't you break with top coat with a medium grit file first?
Can you use normal nail remover?
Will this work with regular polish too? Just bc this seems so easy
Cami 2021 yes it will. Great for stubborn glitter too.
Regular acetone?
Acetone will dry our skin if we soak for how many minutes and acetone can kill nails
What's the alternative?
is acetone the same as nailpolish remover
Nail polish remover contains acetone
No, it is not the same. There are nail polishes that are acetone based and non-acetone based nail polishes.
